Amazing coincidence that the rackets these players used were my two frames as a junior. My older brother used T-2000s and I got his hand-me-downs even though I couldn't control the ball with them. At a workout, I blew out both sets of strings in the only two frames I had with me. My coach was a stringer and he had an extra Rossignol Strato with him. In one minute, I knew it was my new racket going forward. Had three good years with it before switching to the Rossignol F200 C.
Clerc was such a promising player, but unfortunately his mind betrayed him. I remember reading Bjorn Borg’s book: BORG BY BORG 1980, in that book Borg mentions Clerc as a more promising player than Lendl. I thought of Clerc as a more stylized, complete player than Lendl back then too.
