My wife and I had already settled on a boy's name for our youngest son by the time my wife went into labor. We loved the name Charlie, partially because of my love for Willy Wonka and what it's meant to me throughout my life. As we were waiting in the hospital room the night before he was born, we decided to turn on the TV, and lo and behold: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory was on! Such an amazing stroke of fate. Love this movie. One of the best.

'December' is still one of my favourites. I'm happy to see it's getting a BluRay release, even if it's only a Mill Creek one with another film on the same disc. I think I'll wait til it gets a true BR release with special features...

Lucky Man and Rose Plays Julie sound incredible. I'll definitely be checking those two out! The Christopher Lee set looks astoundingly good but I'm going to hold off on purchasing it only because I have so many other box sets I haven't gotten to yet. Lastly, can I just say that I love how you coordinated your glasses with your Baywatch t-shirt. That is mad STYLE, my friend!

Just received my copy of "Grizzly" a couple of weeks ago. This 'Jaws with Claws' is definitely one of my guilty pleasures and so much fun in the nostalgia Dept., remember Dad taking my brother and I to this in '76 @ 10 years of age- remember Mom not being a happy camper about it 😂(I think she thought it was a Grizzly Adams/Wilderness Family type film, which were family fare films at the time.) Sad ending for Dir. William Girdler, I believe the helicopter he was traveling in on location for a film he was doing crashed after running into High Tension wires. Thanks Heath, great review and great variety! 👏

Had to wait until I had more time to watch this, but I loved "The Critic" and will put that on my short list. Also cool to see how your crash course in Ultra history is now to the point of discussing where the Show era ended. For my part, I'm happy to have the mural of the first seven series, but I'll probably slowly pick up some of the more modern stuff every now and then.

You're so funny, Heath. I, for one, always get a kick out your myriad of voices. Such talent. Don't ever change, my friend. Knabbed the Eurocrypt set early on through Deepdiscount, and the collector's edition of Willy Wonka on 4K from Zavvi. When will the madness ever end??? Between all my thrift store hauls, Dollar Tree pickups, and my online orders, my God, I collect them faster than I can watch them, that's for sure!! Between work and home life, how do you ever find time to watch anything? Your content and coverage is among the best on RU-vid. Thanks

Being an early 70s child Willy Wonka was a staple of my childhood. Never tire of it and I've picked up the Zavvi 4k collectors set and it's a thing of beauty. The Eurocrypt of Christopher Lee is also awesome. And wow The Young Doctors. That brings back some memories. I didn't watch it but as a kid I remember my mum watched this all the time! I can still hear the theme song in my head! I might have to get this set for her! That's some serious nostalgia! Now you said 2020 was the pinnacle of physical media. You still stand by that? Coz 2021 is looking pretty sweet so far bro! Another great vid ... Cheers! And enjoy the summer! Freezing my ass off down here in the south east of Australia! Can't wait for spring to arrive!
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 3 года назад
Ah, good question. We are living in a golden age, but I do still believe that 2020 was the pinnacle. With Warner Archive being hobbled and the man who ran it for over a decade being let go (along with his whole team) and not replaced, and with multiple distributors talking about how hard it’s getting to license from the studios, who want to keep things for their own proprietary streaming services, I do think this year has not been as good as last year, that next year won’t be as good as this year, and so on. But we still have more choice than any generation of film fan ever before us, and are so fortunate! It’s still an age of wonder for movie fandom!
@darrenblizzard3851
@darrenblizzard3851 3 года назад
@@CerealAtMidnight hmm yes true, all good points. I didn't realise that boutiques were struggling to get licencing arrangements with the studios. Given the volume of things still coming out I didn't really consider that would be an issue. I get the studios want to hoard things for their own streaming platforms but I don't see why they are mutually exclusive? There will always be those who prefer physical media whereas some will only stream things. Personally I also have streaming to supplement my physical media collection but that doesn't mean I don't have (or seek) physical copies of certain films even if I already have access to them on a streaming platform. Agree the whole Warner Archive decision is a very dissapointing and sorry state of affairs. Well worst case if physical media declines or stops I have so much stuff in my collection already I can probably still keep myself entertained for years ... But would be a shame to think of all that great cinema history that would never get a deluxe feature laden physical release for posterity.

I was a little disappointed at the lack of a digital code, but this was one release I was really looking forward to as someone who was very intrigued by Ultraman Zero in Geed. The Young Doctors was shown in the afternoon in the U.K., just before children’s tv would come on, so I’d often catch the end of it, or Sons & Daughters (another Aussie import), when I came home from school and sat down to watch kids tv. We also got The Sullivan’s, which was kind of dreary, I think they have a complete box set of that in Australia thats worth some money. Home & Away and Neighbours were the top Aussie soaps here. At its peak, Neighbours was watched by more people in the U.K. than actually lived in Australia at the time. They aren’t as popular anymore but they are still going.

@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 3 года назад
The U.S. DVDs were seriously botched. If memory serves, season 2 was released as season 1, season 1 was missing the original opening music, and I believe there were other issues as well. Don't have Baywatch Nights in any format. There were German DVDs, but they're out of print. If you want to go down the rabbit hole of Baywatch on DVD and Blu-ray, this forum thread is a great place to start! forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=316823 There was an Australian DVD set too that was complete and uncompromised, but it's out of print. So Germany is your best bet.

Do you think we will ever get a scream factory collection of a nightmare on elm street like we got with Halloween and Friday the 13th ?
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 3 года назад
Possibly, but I think rights issues could be a huge problem. Warner doesn’t license their major franchise out to anyone, but so much has changed with Warner lately. Also, the Friday the 13th set seems to have really underperformed. They keep dropping the price, but it hasn’t sold out yet.

I grew up on Miami Vice... The film is flawed but I enjoy it. I wish it gets re-edited to trim some fat. The opening boat race, "Tubbs is also a pilot", and Crockett's cringy romantic dialogue can all go. What's left after that is vintage Michael Mann and worth salvaging.
@lior-h
@lior-h 3 года назад
Personally I would pay for a commentary, yeah, or any quality bonus material. I don't really like bare bones discs and will only get them if it's a movie I really want/love and there is no other way to get it. Also not a big fan of the "double feature" style of releases, they just look random to me and the artwork is usually not to my taste. But Mill Creek is a budget label and that's fine, works for some, less for others. As long as they're releasing stuff... now for the real question, you buy Kino and like Cecil B De Mille, so where is Sign of the Cross? It's a pre-code stunner which includes among other unbelievable shenanigans the evil empress Claudette Colbert bathing in milk. What a movie!

I've heard underwhelming things about that Christopher Lee set. I've already seen and enjoyed The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism a few years ago, but that's apparently the only good film in the set and Lee is mostly relegated to cameos in the films included. I was gonna buy the set, but now I'm not going to bother.
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 3 года назад
I think expectation is a big factor in whether someone loves the Christopher Lee set or feels let down. For instance, when I interviewed film historian C. Courtney Joyner recently, he was absolutely thrilled with it, and had nothing but praise. Example: Lee has top billing in the Sherlock film, and that's never had a Blu-ray release anywhere in the world until now. But anyone expecting that to be a great movie may be disappointed. I saw the same sort of mixed reception to the Al Adamson box set last year. The appeal really is the preservation aspect, not necessarily the quality of the films themselves, if that makes sense. They really appeal to the film historians, but the movies can be slogs. Like critic Kim Newman on the recent Arrow box set of Bill Rebane movies (Weird Wisconsin) saying he's never made it through the movie he's talking about without falling asleep!
@Asian_Movie_Enthusiast

@@CerealAtMidnight - Good points. I heard that Lee was dubbed over in some of those films as well, which also disappointed a few folks.
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 3 года назад
Yeah, definitely dubbed for some. I think some of this could have been avoided with more transparent communication of details from Severin. This is becoming more and more of a problem, as certain distributors market B and C level movies as A-list collectibles, which can lead to disappointment. Set expectations accordingly and everybody wins. But that’s the nature of this business, I’m afraid.

@@Asian_Movie_Enthusiast Not sure where your hearing "underwhelming" things about the Eurocrypt Collection, but as someone who actually has it, I can say it is a stellar package of films. They are films that haven't really been available much and now they look great. Many many European films were dubbed when they were made. That is simply how it was. Nobody recently came along and dubbed Christopher Lee for this collection. It was done during the original theatrical releases so that is what you get when that was the case.

I think it's an issue for everybody, and I know people on both sides of the aisle who want to cancel things. I don't believe it's a political issue as much as a social issue, spurred by the ability social media gives us to mute or block anything we don't like. The media makes big bucks off of making us think "the other side" is the enemy, but we're all more alike than we are different. Just trying to stop a potential left vs right cancel culture debate before it starts here in the comments. Thank goodness so many companies are preserving this stuff for us to watch, enjoy, and learn from.
