I own the RMax 4 seater, after seeing this, I'd still pick it. Easiest to flick around in the tighter trails and switchbacks on the mountains. I run it with the front swaybar disconnected.
Love my Rmax4-dunes, rocks, mud, altitude...she eats, and does it comfortably. Installing a better sparky made a noticeable difference in power and temps. Yamaha loves to cork up a motor. R Max is set up for trails, not short course, and that's what I bought it for. Short wheel base is important for a trail machine, and big power isn't worth lesser reliability, when you're back country solo. I pulled the rear seats, and a 30" spare lays nice and flat in the bed, keeping weight low, with plenty of room left over for backcountry camping excursions. A little dynamat under the engine lid helps w noise & heat. Coming from a '21 YXZ SS SE, the R Max is the trail King! The YXZ was happiest in sand, or at Tex Plex. I carry a spare, not belts. :)
After riding and working on all three of these machines I know own an rmax The rmax’s has always been the ones ridin the hardest in my group and always the one pulling the others back to the trailer. They for sure aren’t the best for jumping out of the box tho with some minor suspensions adjustments they aren’t bad tho.
When I was shopping for my sxs, we looked hard at the build quality and general beefiness on the components, especially the suspension and steering. The rmax was leagues ahead of the others in that regard. Of course, that was just looks and not on trail but that rmax looked to be built like a tank.
Watching old videos I WISH y’all go back to them days with beast mode, battle tracks, blue OX and mud life I miss the original videos it’s not the same.
As a great and growing channel, I would leave politics off of it. The country is divided and you don't want a huge portion of the population to stop watching.
I love my Rmax sideways! Dirt mud snow, doesn't matter. Its got a lot of sway bar and rotates controllably. I just don't think I could have as much fun in the limousines
I have an RMAX4 1000 and wouldn’t trade it for anything but I also wouldn’t jump it with the stock suspension setup. The rear end kicks up way to hard on them possibly because it was meant for 4 people plus cargo. I actually almost front flipped mine hitting a bridge that was far steeper than I realized doing 30 mph. I’m told by 2 seater owners that they are much better jumpers and launch much more evenly. I’m also told changing the suspension setup increases the cornering and jumping ability significantly but that’s not the point of this test. I think they feel top heavy because you are sitting up so high, but once you get confident with pushing them and realize it’s not tipping over you really can toss them around corners. I can tell you I’d never even consider trying to fit either of those stretch limos down the trails. The RMAX4 is almost the same length and weight as the 2 seater.
I think a lot of what happened with the R-Max is the tires. Extra traction showed the body roll (however I did see the canam 3 wheel around the tree). Tires are probably the reason it made less power on the dyno
That pre-1994 Polaris wind breaker on Nick is absolutely priceless and worth a Grammy award. But we def need some 110 sending it in early 2023. Butterfield hook us up with some 2JP eargasms
Can't believe it is going on 7 years I've been subscribed! I wish it was financially possible for you guys to test these machines in multiple locations across the US. People in the east would HATE the length of the commander, but people out west would HATE the handling of the RMAX at speeds. I just sold my 17' X3, still have the unbreakable teryx4. Looking to upgrade to the RMAX4!
Having driven and or have rode in an rmax4 limited and a 2 seat commander xtp, personally for me I felt that it was more comfortable and way quieter and with the commander the fast you go the better the ride is like I did 50 mph down a relatively rough trail and was super comfortable, and one neat the about the commander at least the two seat is that both bed sides come off leaving you with a location for a spare belt and tool on one side and I believe a set of jumper cables on the other.
I know your content is mostly SxS and I love the content, but I am a die hard 90s sled guy and man I have been really keeping my eye open for another video to pop up
"...considering the people we have here and the driving aggressiveness of the person driving..." *camera immediately zooms in on Frank, who smiles wickedly* - lol Also, I still want Franks jacket. I wish they still made it.
I would love to see a Pioneer 1000 vs that Rmax, I've spent a lot of time in the Honda seat and would like to see what you guys think of it. Either way, love the content!
As someone who came from yamaha, to a maverick sport, then a x3 rr, I get what they are saying. When pushed, the can am (sport/commander) kind of all work together. It's limits are accessible. They interior is dated and to be honest, so is the x3's. Love these videos. Thanks guys.
I love these videos the adventure overland riding for me is what I love to do ..I have a 4 seat talon and me and my family always have fun ripping it through the trails
Trail conditions are perfect finally in upper mi hope yall get your sleds rippin soon cant wait to see them all get some air!!! This was awesome ...Id chose any of them cause any is better then what i own lol
The long wheelbase of Can Am and Polaris is better for the things you have done so far. I own a RMAX 2 and it is extremely capable. If I was going 4 seat I would probably choose the new KRX 1000. I just watch too many smoking belts of Polaris machines, but +Can Am seems to make a solid rig.
I have been riding quads for years and have recently been considering the move to SXS and the general seems like it would handle the woods the best! Can't wait to see what else you guys do with them!
All those machines look like they had spine shattering landings lol I like the sound and the looks of the general, the wheel base of the Yamaha, and the price of the can-am 🤷♂️
Love the content! Great job editing. Excellent decision to have Frankie drive for lap times and Sous to jump the machines. Love the honest reactions and thoughts! I have a 2019 Can-am Maverick Sport DPS 1000R and enjoy the Sport/Utility comparisons. Based on this video, I would choose the General. I think my heart still lies in the true Sport class with my Maverick Sport 1kR.
Keep up the great work and fire content! Y’all need to fully cab enclose the general hell maybe all three units and compare what upgrades you can get from the factory, put AC, Heat, power windows etc! Do it
That RMax looks just like the old rhino’s did, too soft and top heavy tippy in the corners. It took me a long time to gain confidence in them not tipping over.
Thanks so much for getting into the Sport-Recreational segment, really enjoying that content, and pertains to possibly more real-world buyers who like the idea of sport, but justify the purpose based on work. Please, do include the Commander 2-seat that you have, as a foil for the 4-seat, to compare the chassis length, weight, and price (and XT-P upgrades) to give a bit of context for price point and 2-seat vs. 4-seat context. You guys still have a 2 seat Polaris General XP1000, also, right? I have been personally interested in RMAX, and test driven one so it is interesting to see how they compare. I REALLY wish there were a model between Honda Talon and Pioneer 1000-5 with iAWD and DCT, and turf-mode rear diff. Been watching every video since Doug's Garage era, thanks for all that you guys do and let us come along with you.
the butterRing, slick in the snow, slick in the rain, then if your good and you can butter the corners. lol dont expect this to be the name just crossed my mind my mind
Id like to see these machines but with he sport suspension. Basically a sport machine with a bed. Because sometimes you want to haul camping gear, coolers, firewood etc and still have fun!
So! This is my experience. My 17g4 I had I had all 4 tires that were pro armor XG and my new g4 xp has those same tires as yours. They say those pro armor tires on the front are to help steer but made it way worse. They just push in my opinion. Get xg tires in the front and it’ll make a big difference. I can turn on a dime with them all the same.
