I actually met this dude at a petrol station in Rozelle Australia when their van pulled in for cigarettes and I was at the ice cream fridge and he asked me which ice cream is popular here in Australia and I told him to try the splice. Which is what I was buying. I think he found me approachable because I was wearing the misfits t shirt.
Yeah he has a kickass beard and hair but what I noticed is that most of the time he takes off his mask he looks like a hipster especially when he has glasses or his hair in a bun
I never fully noticed that cool fucking groove during the chorus. Now it's super obvious when I listen to it. You discover something new every day with Slipknot. Reasons why Root is one of my favorite guitarists
I love how Jim even admits to doing things differently like double picking because he’s tired or giving the precise background on the reason something sounds the way it does
+Rennerp and that's the good thing about music. To each his own. If we all liked the same thing, it would be boring. I'm like Mesa, and the Peavy 5150 amp myself. Only artist I like that plays Randall currently is probably Michael Amott. Some people I don't care for are Scott Ian and Kirk Hammett. Good at what they do, just don't like their tone. But I'm a firm believer in its in the artist, not the machine. 🤘
Never ever was a Slipknot fan until now. Upon watching alot of live stuf and vids like these, These two dudes (Mick and Jim) are just bad... fuckin... ass !!!
Tbh, the beginning really isn't too hard. The timing can be a bit difficult but I managed to figure it out within like 2 days. And I'm a pretty trash guitarist.
1:27 What a splendid pie Pizza-pizza pie! Every minute, every second buy, buy, buy, buy, buy! What a splendid pie Pizza-pizza pie. Every minute every second buy, buy, buy, buy, buy.
That custom Jazz master is beautiful. Jim's the man and this tutorial was done really well. Learned it real quick. I was drawn by the chorus but the whole song is dope.
They arent actually all that heavy as you might think, the heaviest gauge string he uses is like a .56 for drop b and for drop a is like a .57 or .58 i think
For some reason the timing at the start always kills me, it’s definitely 4/4 but the intro leading into the verse always catches me a beat off. Weird... I’ll stamp the time where Jim begins his sequence but Jay comes in with the fill like a beat later- 1:12
Stupid Idiots got a method of deciphering it? I can always find it but it always escapes me at the intro ugh. It’s more the trickery if the guitar than the drum beat
Both were very hard to write because the two main writers in Slipknot aren't there anymore. Well, I say that. One passed - R.I.P Paul Gray. The other (Joey) was fired for alcoholism, drug abuse and scar the martyr (Which in my opinion, is one of the best bands he's founded as it's a completely different beast from The Knot')
I will admit to you I was wrong. It seemed that had been the way with him but you can tell he's been drinking (Beer belly). But he said in somethin earlier, either yesterday or the day before or today (I can't remember) he's been suffering from a neurological disease that literally disabled him from drumming. I can't remember what it's called but he praised them for carrying on without him. And trust me. It broke my heart when he was fired. He's my No.1 hero of all time and I needed an explanation for some reason. I apologise for making errors.. (And for the long comment)
Down strokes confirmed. Jim does them as he plays it through, then describes in tutorial he cheated as he is tired 🤣🤘 I can play all of Iowa and most of self titled, maybe half of AHIG and same for Vol 3. I am not yet at half for TGC or WANYK. My goal is to be able to play all Slipknot songs on guitar. And dream to be Jim's understudy.
I remember that I saw Jim and Mick when I bought a number of Total Guitar magazines on a vacation trip in Spain and it had a video with a guitar lesson from both of them. They scared the shit outta me in every aspect. Today, I still think that those guys are absolute units on guitar.
Damn, I remember being a kid in one of the shittiest times in my life and this album came out, forever shaped me and made me a maggot till the day I fucking die
Jim Root is my favourite guitarist and I do own the Jim Root signature guitar it sounds awesome and I love playing slipknot I love the tones that you can get out of it
