Just looking at her childhood pics, hers was a big soul- born into such a tiny body! Even as an adult, her spirit affected everyone around her. People like Frida don't live long; they burn bright like a fireworks show. I've always been intrigued by Frida. She was a _force!_

A husband cheating on a wife with a stranger the wife knows nothing about is one thing, but her own little sister that she loved and adored is quite another.

This must've been one of the most painful and disturbing things that Frida had to experience. Such betrayal.

She was a survivor!!! So many challenges. She's one of my favorite people in history.

I never saw her as masculine. Look at her face she’s classically beautiful it’s just the facial hair wasn’t in and that’s enough for most women to feel masculine or not pretty ❤

We had a kindergarten student named after her and I swear that she had the same eye brows. As a 5 year old, our student was an amazing, vibrant artist.

Frida entered into a relationship with Diego knowing he was a womanizer. Their are no limits with a womanizer.

Diego was scum……he was the worst husband. Looking at the pictures I see Frida and Diego smoking in almost every one. Amy Winehouse’s autopsy listed Emphysema as one of her causes of death but her brother and family said bad decade long bulima weakened her. I feel that so many things weakened Frida too. Polio, smoking, chronic pain, abortions, syphillis, more operations, Diego’s infidelity with her sister destroying all foundations and imploding all relationships…if you can’t trust your family….who can you trust? Also the death of her beloved father….it all took a toll and weakened her. Her father’s accident induced epilepsy has a haunting chill to what would become the fateful awful day of the horrendous bus accident. Had they not gone back to get the umbrella a whole different life would have ensued for Frida and a possible marriage to her first love who pulled the bus handrail out of her……..Frida’s biographical art, her roots, her relationship with her animals and the art world and living a different way…turning away from$ and mindless consumption….the way she survived and still created despite her chronic pain. I loved the way she created her own beauty, and her own beauty standards….and was ravishing…as herself.

I went to Mexico city this past April to see Casa Azul..her actual home which has been made into a museum. Absolutely as magnificent as she was❤

She stole her husband's side piece! That poor woman had a horrible hard life of pain and sickness. She painted while on her back. That is what is called passion!

Frida Kahlo is a brilliant artist. Equally important, she lived her life fully. The horrific bus accident which injured her fueled her creative passion for art and painting. Also, being in the shadow of famed painter Diego Rivera, never defined her. After seeing the excellent film, "Frida," with Salma Hayek and reading books about her, I learned more about her and her complicated relationship with Rivera. It was tumultuous. That said, there was love and mutual respect there. I admire Frida for her unrelenting courage, her sexual openness/bi-sexuality, and her free spirit. Can you please do one on La Lupe Afro Cuban artist childhood friend of Celia Cruz. Her story is fascinating and heartbreaking. She endured horrible sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather once her mother died, he was obsessed with her and she escaped Cuba once the communist party took over and fled to NYC where she was a huge star but also became adductor drugs and found herself living on the streets.

I have heard of her and seen many photos of her. But never knew that she suffered with so many illnesses. Being one with chronic illness. I commend her on living such a full life! Motivated me in a way to pursue more!

I learned about Frida in my senior year of high school. There was something about her and her artistry that was intriguing. I hated that she went through such devastation in her life. Diego was a literal hot mess and didn’t deserve her. But somehow, she saw something in him to remarry him again after all of the things he did. From the photos, Frida does have a number of very masculine features, plus she had facial hair-a mustache. Maybe she had some hormone problems. Her art is interesting though. She definitely survived a lot. 👍👍👍

I love Frida. Her and Basquiat are two of my favorite artists. When I was in college I did a study abroad in Mexico and I was able to visit her house. There were so many bottles of medication, I can’t image the pain she suffered. She was so interesting and talented.

I think Diego was similar to many male artists, especially at that time: he was selfish, he was thoughtless, and he was macho. Women were just mothers, tools for men. She was tougher than most.

Karine, when I was younger, I too thought negatively of Diego: I found his appearance revolting, his interest in younger women appalling, his emotional abandonment of his wife abhorrent. Now that I’m older, my opinion has tempered considerably - especially given that we didn’t witness the dynamics between the couple personally - and there is much that occurs in a marriage that no one but the partners are privy to. We don’t know what their expectations were of one another, the emotional underpinnings - nor how each reacted to their mutual infidelities. Considering the era in which they lived, Diego was highly tolerant of Freida’s eccentricities. He went to great lengths to arrange for her comfort, cater to her interests, and provide the means for her artistic expression. Arguably, his own celebrity (and their unique lifestyle) were the catalyst for Freida’s success ...many equally skilled artists wither into obscurity. I appreciate Freida’s talent far more than Diego’s, but given their values, I honestly don’t find either of their personalities appealing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If only the umbrella had not crossed her mind. I love her art it is completely unique from anything I have ever seen. One day I was in a restaurant eating with someone and a gentleman a young gentleman came up to me and said would you like to purchase a postcard. He handed me a little stack and as I looked through him I landed on Frida Kahlo, The picture of her that you showed with her arms crossed in front of her. I picked that postcard immediately and I still have it 30 years later. To me she represents survival and art to express beauty and pain. She disliked her looks but when I look at her I can only see beauty.

Frida; intriguing, beautiful, sad soul and a unique human being. Rivera; narcissistic, yet both toxic to one another and themselves. I will say that I'll never get tired of admiring her artwork or listening to her story.

Here's a little-known fact. Dago Rivera was part black his grandmother was afro Mexican he was good friends with Langston Hughes Langston's father was a expat who lived in Mexico
