I prefer Tele's to Strats but when someone plays like that I couldn't care less what guitar it is.

Forget all your shredders, speed merchants and pentatonic bores, that is how a guitar should be played. Beautiful.

How are y’all seriously focused on the droning chord? DUDE YOUR TONE IS AMAZING. Phrasing is on par with the best of them. I can close my eyes and tell you that is Chris Buck playing, I can do the same with Mayer, Joey Landreth and Ian Thornley (for this generation). Love your playing, it’s inspiring.

I came back and Revisited this video because I finally figured out what I love about this guy's phrasing. He plays with an Indian vibe like Derek Trucks. Just incredible feel.

Strats vs Teles - this will never have a definite answer, my personal thoughts are Stratocaster is a superior design while Telecaster is a superior guitar, the best player I have seen on a Telecaster was the great Ted Greene, in the current scenario there is Tim Lerch, while on Stratocaster Chris Buck is one of the best players I have come across, it's like he's tapped the soul of the stratocaster. I really like your tones Chris and keep them video's coming mate. Cheers !

Started out with a 1964 Tele when I was 18. It was the guitar to own in Toronto in the 60s as it was second only to Chicago in the blues era. Now at 74 I have migrated through virtually everything trying to find something that defines me. Five Strats and one custom shop Tele later I am where Chris is. The Tele is in it’s case now and I migrate between my various voiced Strats, a Yamaha Revstar 720B, a 94 Godin Artisan TC, and a Godin Summit Classic CT SD. It’s all in the mood and what speaks to you. It just took Chris about 40 years less to get there.

Dude, between my son and me, we have six strats and three teles. This video shows that you can make it completely irrelevant with the things attached to your wrists. The tone from your hands is amazing. My hat is off to you. I admire your tones and your sense of beautiful playing. Bravo.

A thousand people have said it but let me be the 1,001st...very beautiful playing, Chris. Forging a style that isn't EJ, Satch or SRV these days seems to be a rare thing and you, my friend, have done it. truly a style that is more Chris Buck than anyone else. Bends are very nice. Well done, sir.

I love Strats but I came to point where I realized I like them just for the neck pickup sound, the bridge and middle sound, and the vibrato bar. I got my first Telecaster a year and a half ago and found that with it, I can get close enough to the Strat neck sound, sort of close enough to the bridge and middle sound using both pickups, and an incredible rock solid stability from the hardtail. Add to that the midrange power of the bridge pickup that takes you almost into Les Paul territory, whereas I *never* had any use for the bridge pickup *by itself* on my Strats. The only thing I had to do with my Tele was raise the neck pickup a bit from factory specs, because I play mostly on the neck, and this made it more equal to the bridge volume.

I always come away from watching your videos with a renewed passion for the instrument. I always have a guitar in my hands when I watch you. Love it.

I've been a strat guy for years until I decide to get a G&L tele semi hollow which i use for houses of worship. And man....I'm a tele guy now. It's so much easier to get good tones out of a tele. You gotta fight with a strat sometimes. Both they are both my babies

To me, first of all, beautiful piece of music. The strat is angelic and haunting at the same time. Very dynamic. The tele has more of a midrange bark to it, but also a beautiful clarity. Both great.

I think every player needs a Strat a Tele and a Les Paul in their arsenal. You make love to a Strat and you play the hell out of Teles and Lesters. Just my thoughts, I'm a single coil fan so I regularly play both, my Tele and my Strat. Great video and stellar tone!

Fully agree pick the right guitar for the job. I like to think that when you right a song depending on the sound you are after the choice is straight forward.

I’ve owed a strat for nearly 20 years now and my life long lespaul custom from 1985 that I’m going to be buried with. 4 Days ago I just added a butterscotch blonde telecaster to my family tree of now 3 guitars. I wish I had done this sooner. I thought tele were only for country music NOT TRUE AT ALL. I am so happy with this guitar. I cruising through RU-vid to see other reactions to the comparisons between these 3 legends.

Tele is clean, clear, solid, correct.... But the Stratocaster is comfortable, fun, and expressive. One is backbone and the other is cake icing. You need to own both 😀

With the pedal tone underneath, and the vocal style one string melody's/scales, you have some very eastern inspired sounds here. Very cool. The IV minor really gets you.

Great video, and finally someone who doesn't say "the guitar doesn't matter" - get so sick of that. Nailed it with the idea that different guitars inspire in different ways and some just do nothing for a person despite how they sound. One problem I have is that so many people play similar things on a strat its hard to get an idea of how versatile, or not, it can be. Really enjoying your demos so far!

When it comes to just looks, I grew up adoring the look of the 335. When it comes to the pure joy of watching someone play, it's Stevie Ray Vaughan on his signature strat.

always was a telecaster guy. but recently added a Les Paul and I love it too. but you are correct, right tool for right job. so next up is figuring out what strat I should add to the family!

I love them both. Pick one today and the other tomorrow. Either one can take you where you've wanted to go but never been. Just have to figure out which one for today. Tomorrow you'll have to decide again. Both are so versatile it boggles the mind. I do tend to lean towards the strat for it's tone. It has more of that bell like quality in it's tone/sound than does the tele. But I would not want one without the other. That's just the way it is for me. Fantastic playing young man. Truly a master.

Both guitars equally as amazing as the other. Sometimes the tele shines more and sometimes the strat. In my honest opinion. This one goes to the strat. To me nothing beats the strat when it come to expressions. And nothing has more perfect all around tone than the tele

Both amazing sounding, iv had and American strat but I absolutely love my player telecaster no matter what I'm playing.

The 4th position on a strat is pure magic. But also, I think there’s a lot to be said about how it’s also the player’s hands. I love a good tele but the way my hands attack, I do better with a Les Paul w P90s to get that gritty twang that others choose a tele for. The hands are a big part of the tone, I think content creators forget to mention that sometimes.

Of the last 32 years of playing, I've pretty much used a Strat or a Super Strat, but I did a ten year stretch with nothing but a Telecaster, I've recently gone back to Strat's but now having spent so much time with a Tele, man I think I need both.

First of all, I really like the progression you are playing in this video. It is beautiful. Like you, I have both a Tele and a strat. I have had the strat much longer as it was my first electric guitar. I think you are exactly right about the idea that they are each best suited for certain tasks. I will say that I believe in the right hands, the tele is more versatile. I probably play my strat more but I make an effort to play the tele so that I can squeeze all the different sounds out of it when I want to. Thanks for the video!

I'm convinced Chris Buck could make an old Mickey Mouse toy guitar sound incredible. BTW, you mentioned that your first guitar was a telecaster that your dad had bought you. You obviously showed your appreciation for his gift by actually taking the time to learn it. I bought my son a Les Paul for Christmas one year because that's the gift he said he wanted. He played around on it for about 2 weeks, then it just sat in the corner of his room collecting dust after that.

Well said, i own a strat, tele, jazzmaster, 335, SG, Les paul and a Grestch country Gentlemen. Classic guitars for all the classic tones i will ever need. The right tool for the right job. I love everything from the 50´s up until todays music.

When I was young I was lucky to buy a Les Paul copy fitted with T Tops Gibson pickups from a 70's Standard. I still have it & love it. I've used it for years & had to get the closest sound I could out of it at the time. Since then i have collected a few more guitars including a Tele & a Strat. I still believe if you really want a sound / tone you can get pretty close with any half decent guitar if you know what you're doin. It also helps to have & understand good amps & speakers. I was lucky I got an old 66 Goldentone anp to start with. I still have that too. Valve amps are awesome. I know so much now I can't say at the moment. And still learning after 30 years. Agree with you Chris...the guitar will inspire you to play something a slightly different way. If you heard the tele first...you would say it sounded better. Both sound great!

Sounds like the Strat is clearer with more sustain. The Tele seems more tone centric with an e-piano vibe. It's really all towards what you're looking for. Cheers from a Les Paul guy.

As a Les Paul guy, I have to say that nothing touches the clean raw tones of the Strat. That sounded amazing.

I’ve always been a Strat guy. I listed after an Alpine White Fender Strat when I was a kid and once I finally got I played the frets off of it several times. That said I have Les Pauls and Telecasters and they are both great for the fight job. I always come home to a Strat though.

I like them both and I want them all.

Both are amazing, my very first was a squier bullet Stratocaster in off White. I still have it to This very Day and i love it. Its not about the brand Or model. Rather, what do YOU want?

Really great vid you’ve made here on the primary sonic differences between Strats & Teles. (You didn’t play much twangy Tele stuff but there are plenty of examples of that elsewhere). ‘What’s the right tool for the job?’ is a much more helpful question in a ‘versus’ conversation than trying to find a definitive ‘best’ or #1. The latter is much more clickbait-ey in a headline & is fine fodder for a pub debate between aficionados of such things but the former is more instructive.

Man, I could listen to you play like this for hours.... I've never been a huge fan of Strats though I had a deep blue USA strat year's ago mainly coz it looked gorgeous! My main guitar is a Fernandes Les Paul gold top with P90's and I'm in the process of building myself a Tele so We'll see how that turns out.

Hey Chris, im a 100% with you, i cant choose just because i have to, or just on the sound off a guitar. Its the music your going to play, and how you want it to sound that makes me deside, tele or strat. Keep those vids coming and i hope to see you play live somewhere soon.

I think the Strat suits your style better, Chris (I mean, the solo-bluesy-airy style of playing you often go to). I also play a Tele and a Strat and swap them over depending on setlist... or whichever has the newest strings...
