The marzipan scene was just great 😂 but how cute is it that Richard knew Lorelai likes bunnies. His smile when she is melting over the bunny marzipan and asks to try one is simply lovely. Then he even hands one to her. Small moments like these... I wish they'd had more of them in the show.
To explain why some people find marzipan gross and others find it delicious - Marzipan is almond flavored. Almonds are, fun fact, in the same family as cherries. So some people taste almond, others taste cherry, I always read almond extract as cherry. So some people find it to taste like cough medicine because of the cherry flavor. And therefore, they don’t like the taste of marzipan.
When I was in high school we had a foreign exchange student from Iceland who’s parents sent her some marzipan. We all tried it at the lunch table. We all spat it into a napkin. 🤢
I llllllllllllove marzipan, I am from Italy and there is a candy shop in town that has the bestest marzipan little fruits, all shiny and sugary and delicious and I usually get them for my birthday and Cjristmas. I DO NOT buy them all year round, so it is a WONDERFUL treat when the moment arrives. So, if I were given marzipan from Richard and Emily I would be immensely happy!!! 😄😄😄😍😄😄😄😍😍😍🍊🍉🍈🍓🍒🍇🫐🥝🍅🍋🍌🍍🥭🍎🍏🍐Marzipan fruitssssssssssss, yum!!!
Why does marzipan taste so bad? “The aroma and flavor of marzipan can be attributed to benzaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide, which both derive from amygdalin, a compound naturally present in almonds.” Apparently the importation of bitter almonds is banned in the United States because of the connection with cyanide.
