this show has taught me so much, cocktail hour, dinner, cigars, all these are elegant, charming things, but they are just being used by Digger's dad to catch them off balance, and to attack them in their greatest moment of vulnerability, he even announced himself when digger's attention was divided. all of this elegance, all seemingly so domestically docile, and used a certain way, and they are instruments of torture
well, its no Jane Austen but then she didn't ave to content with show don't tell requirements of video. I love these excerpts for the same reason tho. Watching rich people poke each other is fun.
Something I never understood about this episode. Richard's mother passed away 2 episodes before this. I know estates can take time to process; however, Richard would have had his mother's money to fend off Lloyd's lawsuit correct? Lorelai the first was loaded!
From time of death, you have around 24-48hours to contact a funeral service/storage for loved one body. Now if you miss this window, your loved one body will go to a mass no name grave...and trust you will not get the smell of death out of your skin for a few day digging through a mass amount of dead body to find your loved ones. Now once you obtain the proper documents (death certificate, ID card, insurance, and etc). you have to filed with the states to see if your loved one had any Legal Trust/Will saved (if they did it a easy process) The wait for you to get your insurance payout will be 6 month to 3 years depends on varies factors mainly case load, random luck and maybe some bat virus that crippled the insurance industrial and now is severally overworked the case worker is.
Yes, Lorelai the first was loaded and Richard was undoubtedly her primary heir. He was also a millionaire in his own right. But I think Lloyd was implying that Richard's business was already struggling, and the mountain of legal fees from a contentious lawsuit, plus the bad word-of-mouth, would have meant it would make no rational sense to continue operating the business at a loss- even though the Gilmores clearly have the personal funds to litigate the suit.
@@emmapeelible I agree with your premise that Richard almost certainly inherited plenty. And @dejavudiable perhaps you didn't know but the wealthy die differently. She certainly would have had an estate placed in trust to smooth over inheritance processes, including taxes, and all of her funeral arrangements would have been made. The family's lawyers would have handled everything required by the state, including communication with the family and their accountants. But none of this actually changes the financial reality of Richard and Digger's business. Its financial condition was certainly precarious and a lawsuit would certainly be able to crush it, even if Richard loaned money to the business to cover legal costs. A cease and desist order could prevent them from serving clients and/or even the word of the lawsuit could make their customers flee because they don't want to be caught up in it.
I like how Richard took the possiblity that Lorelai might want to smoke somewhat seriously, evne though it was quirky to him, since she's already such a quirky person in his mind.
Richard and Jason went into business out of spite then he pulled this out of spite. An eye for an eye for an eye. I honestly hope Jason ended up happy and with his family no longer a part of his life cause with an asshole like this in his life I cant see the happiness lasting. Well, maybe his nephew didn't turn out to bad. Think grandpa got his way with him playing football?
