Friday Night Videos brings back childhood memories of staying up late to watch but waking up early for Saturday Morning cartoons, those days of the 80's are missed.

I also have a fondness for the first half of the 80s because as a teenager staying up late on the weekends, sometimes all night, was fun. Even if your family didn’t have cable television, there was plenty to watch on network TV. Friday Night Videos wasn’t the only TV program showing music videos late at night. I remember there was a local PBS channel in Denver that showed music videos as well. Now all that’s on local late night TV, which I haven’t watched in years, are lackluster talk shows, news, and infomercials. Saturday morning cartoons are also long gone ☹️

Yes, those were the days. I also loved Night Flight, and Night Tracks. Then eventually we got MTv and loved Sunday nights. They had some British comedies, and later on they had my favorite MTv show “120 Minutes”. For awhile they played the British alternative video ahow “Snub”. And “the Tube” with Paula Yates and Jools Holland. All those British shows really influenced my musical taste, and I had to start buying “imports” to get the best music I could.

My parents had cable in 1983 but it was on the "big color set" in the family room. My friends from school ( I was a Senior in the Fall of 1983) would come over and we'd veg out in front of the TV all day watching MTV. I had a small black and white set in my room and would watch Friday Night Videos and SNL away from the rest of the family. It was great, I felt like a real grown-up because I could watch Monday Night Football in peace. Thanks for posting this and making me feel young again. I just wish I could wash the color out and pretend it's 1983 again.

Wow does this take me back….. I would do anything to go back to the 80s. I was 13 to 23 during that decade. The music was so great and so was tv….and even the commercials were great too and I loved staying up on Friday night to watch videos and getting up Saturday morning to watch cartoons. I think I spent most of the weekend in front of the TV to be honest …..switching back-and-forth between MTV, cartoons, American bandstand……… on and on ….and of course I’d go outside to play with my friends and you didn’t have to come home until after dark! Oh….. and maybe get in a visit to the local mall and go to the arcade to play Pac-Man or play Atari at home

The 4:3 format and the graininess of this video created a strong flashback to 1983 - waiting for this Spandau Ballet video to come on Sounds, an Australian Saturday morning music show, before I had to run off to play netball. I was anxious that I wouldn’t get to see it before I had to leave. I was in year 10 and was 15-16. I saw Spandau Ballet live in 1984. I still listen to their music. True is on a number of my playlists and I have an Apple Music playlist - Spandau Ballet Chronological. Their songs are timeless.

This was great. KISS dancing around in their tights etc is funny, cool, how do you not sing along? The videos were simple but fun, commercials awesome too 😉👅🎸

Watching this on Friday on the big smart TV in the living room, my daughter sleeping next to me, her moms cat snuggled with her. Work from home done for the week. Rainy and windy out. In a shit world, there is such a thing as peace.

Love these, thanks for posting them! Love my 80s, still after all these years, I can watch these all night long! Nothing like the 80s, great music, great bands, great athletes in all sports, great movies, video games, rock n wrestling, tv shows, toys like he man, transformers, gi Joe, thundercats, mtv, the fast food, dukes of Hazzard, chips, a team, knight Rider, man, I can go all night with this! 🤘👍

I think I preferred KISS with their makeup instead of without.

Thank you so much for including the commercials !! They're just as entertaining as watching the music videos of my youth again. Total time-travel material here... I used to record this on Friday nights and then watch it after Saturday morning cartoons (seems A LOT of people on here/kids at the time did the same thing). Cheers !

Spooky... I have enjoyed Promises Promises by Naked Eyes for decades, but I dont think I've seen the video before. Fun fact, the scene in Nip/Tuck with this song, is as old as the song was, before it.

God. I remember all these songs. Must have been around the fall, because these songs were popular around the time school started that year. I nine years old, but having an older sister helped open my ears to good music

We had MTV but FNV and Night Flight were still required viewing.

If you didn't have MTV - and who had MTV? - Friday Night Videos was a real treat back in the day. Videos were fun, they were different, they were worth staying up late for. The Chuck Scarborough spot shows this was from WNBC in NYC - the station I watched then.

Great upload! It's so cool to be able to relive all of this today for so many reasons. How can anyone who was around for all of this not feel a bit sad that it was all phased out in favor of TV that just got worse and worse? I'm glad to see a revival of interest in quite a few of the great TV music shows from the 60s, 70s, and 80s on YT. Thank you.

The 80's was the last decade before internet and then shortly after that we got smart phones. It was such a special time maybe that's why we keep coming back to experience it. We were experimenting with wild hair styles, clothes, and the best part - we could not get enough of those new and improved synthesizers which created some of the best music I've ever heard.
