Sick channel dude! Les Pauls, tube amps, chunky riffs, and no cheesy generic blues licks. It seems like it's getting harder to find quality content like this.
Dude, you have some great ears to capture the true sound of every amp and pedal that you test. Awesome work!. It would be great see you testing some Orange stuff (Rockerverb MKIII for example).
Thanks a bunch! Trying to do my best to capture things well but I learn a little bit more with each video. Love Orange amps! If I can get my hands on one, I'll definitely make a video. Thanks for checking it out!
Man, I'm suffering from a last riff syndrome. I ilke those gear and playing of yours. I have a BE-OD and am about to explore its tonal capabilities. More power Bro.
Cool video Zach. I had both the BE-OD and the Dirty Shirley pedals on my board and both were OUTSTANDING. Dave Friedman knocked it out of the park with both of those pedals. After about a year I found the Dirty Shirley suited my needs the best. I put the BE-OD for sale on reverb and it sold in 11 minutes. My tone is the best it’s ever been. I use a Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 with the Dirty Shirley run through the clean channel of the amp. The 4 10 inch speakers on the Deville give me that “thump” I like. Thanks for posting.
Thanks! I'll have to check out the Dirty Shirley pedal as well. I've had the amp and it's awesome. I didn't really need the BE-OD at all, I was just curious how it would stack up. Super impressed though!
I had the same amp and i tried to run a Wampler Pinnacle through it for skate punk stuff but they didn't work well together, I ended up selling it and getting a Blackstar HT 60 that sounds pretty good but I'm thinking of running a Friedman Buxom Boost to take it a few notches higher. I play it through a 4x12 vintage 30's loaded cab and my guitar's are a Korean Epiphone Les Paul Standard with Gibson pick ups (i think 490/498 if I'm not mistaken), a Korean Epiphone SG with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge (no neck, i don't need no stinking neck pick ups), and then a G&L Legacy Strat with their USA pick ups.
Wow This pumped me up I’m building a clone pedal of the OD Deluxe This pedal through the Matchless was so good I’ll have to try the matchless sims with my clone and do a demo...
@@ZachWish I bought one this morning. I’m extremely curious to see what I come up with. I love everything from vintage to modern tech death tones and this pedal seems to have it all depending on what you boost or color with it. Thanks man. Great channel, awesome and honest content. Quality vids. Well done good sir.
Do you kill the presence altogether on the Marshall? I love the tone you get with the pedal and Marshall. I can’t seem to replicate it. The pedal is still really bright even with the presence killed and does not compete with the amps gain. Any advice would be awesome.
are you trying to tell me that instead of me just spending $5k on Freidman BE Deluxe and Cab I could've just bought the pedal and ran it through my JCM800?
Not sure whether the Friedman BE OD is actually an overdrive or a distortion but according to the official description, it is an overdrive. Sounds more like distortion to me.
Yeah definitely more on the high gain distortion side of things in my opinion. You can dial back the internal gain pot and it's still pretty gainy. Great sound though!
Hallo sir.. I need your preference. I’ve never try this pedal, but I just need to know with you preference. For best sounding, you prefer this BE-OD or BB Preamp for boosting high gain amp?
If I was boosting an already high gain amp, I'd probably go with the BB Preamp. If I was trying to get a high gain tone from a pedal on top of a clean channel, I'd go for the BE-OD. Thanks for checking out the video!
Love this video! Thanks for making it. Question: Does playing through the pedal feel similar to playing the amp? I have a Suhr PT100, SL68, and a Friedman BE100. The Suhrs sound and feel like classic Marshalls, but the BE100 has this really pleasing, easy to play kind of greasy/slippery feel under the fingers. Sorry for the horrible adjectives, but I don't know how else to describe it. I would love to replace the BE100 with the BE-OD and play it through my Suhrs, but I'm more concerned about the difference in feel than in sound between amp and pedal.
Thanks for the kind words! Nice amps you got there. I know exactly what you're talking about when you're describing the greasy feel of the Friedman. It think the amp has got a lot of natural compression which makes it feel awesome to play. The feel of the pedal will get you close, but I think the feel of the amp that you're playing it through still ultimately shines through. On a recording, it'll be hard to tell the difference, but for instance, playing the BE-OD through the 800 still feels like playing an 800. That tighter/stiffer feel vs the easy feel of the actual Friedman. On your PT100, you can dial back the negative feedback a bit which will get you a bit closer, but maybe try to find the pedal used so you can give it a shot and not take a big hit on the price if you end up wanting to sell it again. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@ZachWish I appreciate the response, Zach! Subbed! I'll try out your feedback suggestion on the PT100. Right now it's at 12:00 and I haven't touched it. I can more or less dial in the PT100 and BE100 to sound similar, but the feel of the Friedman is so pleasing to play.
I'd say it's an improvement all around. I made a video talking about why I swapped up to the Deluxe. Check it out! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sdfneCSSVmY.html
Did you still get that “distortion layered onto a clean channel” sound/vibe when you plugged it straight into the power amp instead of the clean channel?
No, I actually thought straight into the power amp was one of the coolest sounds of the bunch. This pedal definitely blends pretty well with whatever you throw it at. Thanks for checking out the video!
Definitely shaves the low end off that chunky jcm tone. It’s sounds kind of trebly. Well from here it is. But maybe that’s what you want in a mix. . But seems like a lot of usable singing gain though . I still plan on trying it, hmm some day .
Have you tried the BE-100 versus the BE-100 Deluxe? So close to pulling the trigger on a non-deluxe to save a little money. I'm curious how different they are. Can't find any comparison videos. Would love to hear your thoughts. Also your channel is fantastic, I've been looking for your Les Paul Classic Custom for a while now. Cheers man. Keep it up!
Thanks so much Kelly! I have owned a few iterations of the regular BE-100 over the years and I spend probably 95% of my time on the standard BE channel of the amp. Rarely go into HBE territory or even flip on any switches on the back of the amp. The unaltered BE channel is pretty versatile unto itself. I don't hear a huge difference between the standard & deluxe on the BE channel. I think the appeal of the Deluxe is the added versatility of the Plexi channel as a clean channel, the gain structure switch (which I personally leave on the highest setting which is what the standard amp is), the Thump control for some added low end, and the voicing switches. If you're really into versatility and tons of different tones, the Deluxe is probably the way to go. If you're looking for a great, straight up distortion sound, they'll both get you there.
Damn good tone and damn good channel! May I ask if I can use that little riff you use at the beginning to record a little clip from my pedal? And can you share an IR of your cab? Sounds great! Edit: I already upload a little video using the riff from beginning. Tell me if it's ok though, if not, I'll remove it. I want to make a comparison with the Joyo Uzi pedal, that's the reason why I asked for your IR =). Still want it though if you can share it. Keep rockin!
Hey! Thanks for the kind words. I'm actually not using the Reactive Load in this clip. I recorded both a RL signal and the mic'd signal but just ended up using the mic. It's just a 57 on the cap edge of a Creamback H75. I was using the Reactive Load a bit in the beginning of my channel, but I pretty much mic everything up these days. The Reactive Load is amazing, I just prefer messing with mics. Checked out your video and you're sounding great man! That first chord is 0 - 5 - 4 - 6 - 0 - 0 Take care!
@@ZachWish Oh man! You probably made the right choice going for the mics because the tone is really amazing! I have distortions going for the mic route that I couldn't solve yet so, IRs just works good enough for now! Thanks for your kind words to and sry for late reply! I suck with notifications. If you share the IR from your cab one day let me know! Keep rockin and bring more awesome riffs!
Wowaweewa, the freidman amp actually sounded better than the Marshall. A more complex gain structure ? Creating more tonal nuances and depth of sonic spectrum? 🤔
Sick riff. All sounds killer! Currently using a Rat as my main distortion, I'm looking for a more high gain amp like tone, think this is it? Sounds great!
Thanks so much Erik! I love a Rat as well. Yeah, the BE-OD is pretty killer as far as high gain pedals are concerned. Some great high gain pedals I'd check out are the BE-OD, BE-OD Deluxe, Bogner Uberschall, Revv G3, Abasi Pathos. They're all great though, so tough to go wrong. Thanks so much for watching.
@@ZachWish ya the Rat rules, truly a classic and nailed my tone for a while now, but I'm still craving that specific modern high gain chuggy goodness! I think after watching a bunch of stuff, I'm torn between the G4 and G4, but leaning towards the G4 to get a little of that Recto tone I hear inside it. The BE OD is still something I'd love to try too, though.
It's in the default "straight up the middle" position for this video. I don't know that I'd bring up much past that as it starts to sound a little "overgained" in my opinion, but it's really cool when when you back it off a bit.
I know people want to know the songs, but I think it's cool you dont list them. Like hearing something I know what it is but have to think on it. Remembering songs we used to love is lost now in this digital age of music.
