Best thing about Shawn’s videos is that they don’t give me G.A.S. for the gear he demos, because I KNOW it’s really just his playing that is so good. The gear hardly matters.

Wow, such a dynamic low to mid gain pedal. Has the plexi vibe! Awesome tones in there, but every piece of gear sounds darn good in the hands of master Tubbs. I guess this pedal fits your playing style like a glove. )

I must've been distracted by work or something the first time I watched this vid; on re-watching I'm amazed at how harmonically rich that intro piece is! The rapid-fire chord sequence after the stop at 1:21, the jaw-dropping soloing throughout. You've done it again, Mr. Tubbs!

In the 2021 Pedal issue of Premier Guitar, they reviewed the Smallbox and raved about it's ability to capture the plexi sound. Thus I came back here and some other videos to check this pedal out again. Now I really want one! I own a bunch of Marshall heads and cabs, but no plexi.

I'm sure this pedal will age well. Dave has yet again raised the bar in pedalmaking. He knows if it's good, it'll speak for itself. This demo and the one by Pete Thorn proves that if there's going to be another overdrive pedal, it better have something more than the hundreds of other MIAB pedals. The ears of Dave Friedman has allowed this manifestation, you better believe it has the right wave forms producing the perfect pick attack and harmonic content.

Hey shawn, reacts very well to picking dynamics. Funny how they decided to display the controls, with the MID between the VOL and Gain... Makes kinda sense though. The Mids push it through quite a bit. Sounds very nice. Careful with the presence and gain controls. Gets sizzly quite fast. Gain setting in high mode sounds more US. I prefer the low setting (Brit). All in all, quite a nice and versatile pedal, at an affordable pricepoint !

This is a great OD to own and I’m more of a bright jangly person. I was very surprised at the inner build quality compared to the first Friedman pedal I got years ago. It looks amazing and with excellent full size components.

I bought and then sold the BEOD and the Dirty Shirley but the Small Box has nailed a great Plexi sound. I play in a trio so I need great tone but I have to have a fat sound too. I have 15 other Plexi pedals lol This one is in the top 5.

I had to the regular smallbox and moved up to the wildwood guitars spec’d limited version. More gain. Way more. And I’m still buying this. As always, great job Shawn.

That guitar started out life as a 2013 R9 and was completely refinished at some point but it wasn't Murphy.

The Kaluna is very smooth sounding but the Small Box has a lot of vintage bark and bite. Just depends on what you want.

hi everybody ! anybody has tried the swicht beside..!? i can´t hardly listen any diference , not big .. or even it is just like an ornament .. or maybe take changes after the 1/2 postion of the gain knob . and more ... there´s no manual inside he box explaing how to use this switch... ! tks

I feel like this basically makes marshall style amps irrelevant. Buy an amp that does things Marshall DON'T do like cleans, compressed/edge of break-up, dark and muddy overdrive ala Neil young, and put this thing in front of it for a Marshall channel type thing.
