I finally got myself up to Bahnstormer and ended up taking the F700GS out for a spin.
I assumed that this was a 700cc, but it is actually the same 800cc engine that is in the F800GS, just configured differently with less power.

Was just watching this review when I clocked the number plate, went into my garage and sure enough it is my bike !!!Last June my 07 reg R1200RT was in for service at Barnstormers Alton and was loaned the 700 fell in love with it. I thought the 800 gt would be even better but was not a patch on the 700 asked about getting hold of a 700 they said could do a great deal on the demonstrator I had just ridden so px d the 1200rt and have had the 700 ever since and loved every minute of it so far.
@Phil480
@Phil480 7 лет назад
Oh wow, what are the chances of that hahah! Sounds like you got a good deal on it. I found the 800GT very practical and comfortable, just not very exciting. I much preferred the 700GS.

A great deal indeed no has been a joy to ride. I had a scottoiler fitted but have just removed it, as not impressed with the lack of oiling on the outside links causing rusting over the winter. Then when I removed the front sprocket cover huge build up of gunky oil that the chain was passing over, so have now switched to Wurth cleaner and dry lubricant, chain now looks like new !!! Looking forward to the spring and summer
@Phil480
@Phil480 7 лет назад
peter campbell I have been using the Wurth stuff. It's good but I do find the wet weather washes it away a bit too easily.

I tried the F700GS Rallye and the Tiger XRT. Both lovely bikes but the tiger was £2000 more and BMW gave me an amazing trade in on my Yamaha. My sensible head kicked in as this bike is for my commute to work and I already have the 2016 Street Triple for fun. Should get my GS in about 4 weeks. Happy days
@Phil480
@Phil480 8 лет назад
Wohoo, enjoy it! I did also ride the Tiger 800 XRt and I preferred that over the GS, although I think the GS is better with wind noise.

As you'd just been out on an vstrom it would have been nice to have a comparison. Good insight though, thanks

I've got the F700GS Rallye, white with red frame, basically. Superb bike, just lacks the grunt in the engine that I like from my bikes. But other than that, it's phenomenal
@Phil480
@Phil480 8 лет назад
If I was to go for one, I'd be more tempted in the F800GS. The 700 has the same engine but it's less powerful. I'll have to try out the 800 and see if there is a noticeable difference.
@miabennett1363

+Phil480 yeah, I think it's 10hp more, and only 5ftlb of torque. I mean, it absolutely is fast enough, the 700, I just miss the low down torque of a good (unreliable *cough*aprilia*cough*) v-twin haha!

Nice ride review Phil, not sure about any of these adventure bikes looks wise myself, not a bad price for a BMW though, I like the idea of being able to change the suspension setup whilst on the move though, RSM8.

+Skeggy Cruiser I was never too keen on the unsymmetrical headlight styling on BMW's, but they're not too bad on the GS.

I own a 2017. Riding it 4 weeks now. I thought it might be too big for me (798Cc). Nope. Super easy to ride. Already looking forward to trading up one day because I love this bike so much, but I ride 40 miles each way to work and back on I95 in Florida. It vibrates staring at 65mph, and that's the one thing I don't love about it.

Why does it have the pipe protruding as far as it does? They obviously don't envisage anyone putting side panniers on it, which means it's not really suitable for touring. You can carry camping gear on the seat and top-box, but that defeats the purpose of the low fuel tank's bringing the COG down. I test-rode one yesterday with a view to trading my VStrom in on it, but bailed when I saw how far the pipe sticks out. 'think I'll keep the Suzi for now and do the swap after I've done with long camping trips. This is so much nicer to ride on the long straight stretches of bitumen than the VStrom, which, despite all the rave reviews, is a little bit boring if you're not riding on dirt or fanging it through S's.
@Phil480
@Phil480 7 лет назад
There is an option for putting panniers on, the bracket hangs them clear of the pipe so they probably do stick out more than what they would if the pipe was tucked away somewhere. I have since ridden the Tiger 800, and prefer that over the F700GS. Also, I hear the Kawasaki Versys is a bit more fun than the V-Strom but haven't tried that one out yet.

I know this video is pretty old, but just in case... its very likely that the engine temp wasn't working at the beginning because it likely requires the engine to be on with the oil circulating to read the temp :) Excellent bike! I'm glad you enjoyed the ride!

I'd be tempted, there isn't much down sides to it at all apart from the potential servicing costs. I imagine BMW are a bit pricey.

@Phil480 8 лет назад
Since filming, I found out that the 700 has the same engine as the 800, just de-tuned. So I'd be more tempted by the 800. I'll have to try the R and see what that is like.

Does this have more suspension travel than the Vstrom and is it smoother suspension wise? I am looking for a smoother ride over bumps and rough roads.
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
I can't be sure without researching. There has probably been a new model since I filmed this. I imagine it does have more travel than the V-Strom, and with the electronic functions it should cope much better. I hear the F800GS is better for the rougher stuff. Next time I can do some test rides, I'll have another go with the current models if I can.

Great bike though the head lights put me off! Is there an easy way to change them to something more symmetrical??
@Phil480
@Phil480 8 лет назад
Knowing BMW, probably not. Asymmetrical headlights seem to be the normal thing on BMW's, particularly on the GS bikes.

I am used to it now, I own a Triumph Scrambler now, and that is a bit on the tall side. I just have to be careful where I put my foot down and be aware of any dips.

yessss it is very flat footable i test rode one with the lowered seat and kit and it was almost too low and i am only 5'6 , only the harley sportser is lower in the seat but it is more cramped thant the gs700

@Phil480 5 лет назад
Would you rather have a 13 second intro, or me begging for subscribers and "hitting that like button" for god knows how long before getting on with the actual video?
@RhayaderGoesToTown
@RhayaderGoesToTown 5 лет назад
Hmm, neither? :) I am enjoying the video, so let the content speak for itself. I personally don't feel that asking for subscribe really helps with my decision to do so. It's your choice, of course. It's a matter of balance. I feel it's a bit too long for my taste, as also it's just a "loading screen" which is a cool animation, but does not give anything to the viewer. Just my 2 cents.
@Phil480
@Phil480 5 лет назад
Okay, this is an old video. I used to use a different intro on most videos. It would be the same loading screen but with different sound clips from popular culture or 8-bit versions of well known music to keep things interesting for subscribers. My current intro is more basic and shorter. It annoys me when youtubers go begging for subscribers, especially before the actual video. Like you say, let the content speak for itself :)
