Frieren´s clone expression before attacking fern at the end was terrifying. When frieren said "No one knows better than I do how frightening I can be" she was not lying. Also, frieren said to fern that the basic magic attack was enough for the mages in this era, and she did only use basic magic attack when fighting against some at the level of denken, but she didnt use it once against herself. And I believe she never directly attack fern until the end. This the thing that I like the most about the anime, the hype. Frieren not using any spell other than basic magic attack until fighting herself, the show introducing characters like denken that we can immediatly identify as strong only to get destroyed by frieren, denken´s group fleeing immediately after their battle starts, it all build up for the moment she started fighting her clone. She started with awfully powerfull attacks and her clone ignoring Fern (whom we already saw is a really strong mage) as she doesnt represent a problem until the end where she finally show a different expression, an angry expression, to then destroy Fern in a single look. It was fantastic!! Edit: I just noticed that in the end where we see frieren with the mimic, there are 2 more mimics behind her, meaning she fell for it 3 times in the same room xd
Also worth noting from prior episodes, the other mages comment that the current era of magic has few spells that are suited for use in dungeons because they don't really clear dungeons anymore. The current "fad" in magic is to minmax and economize the use of mana by relying on natural phenomenoma as much as possible. Why conjure water if you already have water? Why create rock if you're standing on it? Why block an arrow by pulling it backwards with gravity magic when you could just use a gentle breeze to throw it a few inches off course?

After a mere 80+ years. Frieren's tiny dancing golem from an earlier episode grew up into a big golem , lol. Wow, the Frieren on Frieren battle was amazing.
Idk if it's a translation difference, but I liked how it was worded in the manga a bit more. "I'm not sure she can even think like a normal human being. This is in the realm of genius." It reads less as "she's so crazy it's a superpower", and more "the way she thinks is on a higher order."
That angry Frieren clone with the hair down has me feeling things. Also Ubel is really teetering that CRAZY-HOT scale. Still hot enough for me, I can fix her.

Realistically, it is very unlikely Ubel intended to actually kill the Proctor. Remember, she doesn't just kill people at random in the middle of nowhere. She makes herself an easy target to bandits to lure them in. People that actually mean her harm. She is only willing to go off on the test where killing is an option, and is outright turned off to the idea multiple times when she could have had a chance. And even though Kraft got in her way and directly accused her of knowing what she was doing, she does nothing to threaten him for it or even hint at the idea. Ubel enjoys the act of killing, but she's not some psycho monster that doesn't understand restraint or has no standards.
MAYBE. We weren't told all of the limitations placed on the magic use. Perhaps it had to be direct magical attacks. Otherwise a water bender would just submerge him in a pillar of water until he had to breath.
Method's VA is Ueda Reina, Shevoiced Akane from Gridman, this might easier for GenreVerse to remember. This is not her typical typecast because usually she got cute and young girl role. As her fan I'm really excite that she got cast for something different
Yeah "onee-san" is not her typical role so far. At first, I think some veteran seiyuu who voiced Methode. Of all people I wouldn't have thought this would be Reina Ueda, and her "Ara-ara" sound so natural. Fortunately we will see more of her later.

I remember thinking if they would show us her fight against Sense's clone in here, bc in the manga they didn't, and i know why: it wasn't even a fight, it was a completely annihilation. And her backstory too, really cool.
Denken's replica was fighting Wirbel's group and since it disappeared only when the spiegel was defeated and seeing how much Wirbel and the others two were exhausted one can only assume they were struggling against it

@@sirmcdust5572 they left a couple of things ambiguous in this episode. first they start the episode without showing that copyren was able to block fern's attack, which is fine because you can assume that's what happened, but you know how your average audience is.. I've seen a lot of people not understanding what was happening there lol. Then we have fern's clone sneaking up on methode, this was way more clear in the manga as you could see fern's whole body instead of just her staff. And then we have the denken vs wirbel team fight, and just like the methode one, this was way more clear in the manga. At least with fern you could kinda see that it was her there, but with denken if you didn't pay attention that he was using his light of judgment there you wouldn't be able to tell who it was at all lol.
I have an explaination on how Ubel is able to cut through Sense's hair and the immovable cloak while not being able to cut through basic defensive magic. Reelseiden is a simple spell that is able to cut though anything the caster perceives as being able to cut, defensive magic is defensive magic, it was developed specifically to block incoming attacks and even more specifically the very first piercing spell, Zoltack. The very fact that it is conjured rather than using the resources in the surrounding environment aids in its inability to be cut by Reelseiden as it can be conjured before it can even reach its intended target, there is no true analogous material to compare it with, especially considering that it is described as a impenetrable wall of mana. Fabric and hair on the other hand are materials that can very easily be visualized as being cut, out of very respect of the material itself, these properties are unconsciously imbued into the very enchantments and spells casted upon them and therefore take on the very properties of the material itself. Ubel using her inhuman imagination are able to perceive these complex protection enchantments as fabric itself and cut through them likewise with Reelseiden, so even knowing how impenetrable and complex a spell is, she cuts through it seamlessly like the blades of a sissor gliding through fabric by viewing it as such. She would be the worst nightmare of any magic user that channels their power though strings, weaves and paper.
Partially correct. There's a reason visualization is being mentioned. It's because no one has seen someone "cut" a defensive barrier. Quotations because in the hypothetical that Edward Scissorhands is in that world and has magic that will "visually" cut the defensive barrier with his scissors and Ubel sees it, her spell immediately upgrades with it. The same way how she's able to immediately copy Sorganeil but couldn't copy Lands clones because she hasn't see Land create a clone.
Hmmm, how would she imagine cutting something hard like boulders. I don’t one could imagine cutting into a rock unless one has seen one be cut? But I think the main reason she’s able to cut through thing, is just. Ignore the logic or go with you intuition
I like it because there’s not really anyone who’s overpowered, even with Frieren. We see she has her weaknesses, I think later in the story it mentioned that she was defeated by 6 human mages
Ive watched quite a lot of anime in my years, but I've never really rewatched any of them outside of watching reaction channels. Never bought any blu-ray sets, etc. Frieren about to change everything.
Frieren clone really use visualization magic against Fern like how Ubel do. Frieren clone know she doesn't have any hands and staff to counter so she decide to visualize her vision pushing Fern to the wall.
all magic needs visualization, you can't realize anything unless you can visualize it happening. ubel is special because she can visualize things that defies logic by following her feelings. and we don't know what frieren clone did at the end, even in the manga that's lef unexplained still. we don't know what she used so we can only speculate.
Ubel probably did it on accident. I mean if you think about it, he can use Wirbel's Sorganeil because she emphatizes with him, and as we know, Wirbel doesn't necessarily like killing as Sorganeil rooted from him taking his time to think about killing and only does so if "necessary".
I like how originally this series is mainly a slice of life comic with some action in it but Madhouse design to go all out with the action scene with Hidehiko Sawada from one punch man and Toru Izawa from FGO helping this episode.
Fern probably thought the clone didn't had anything else, because it's tough to cast a spell without your stuff, let alone without your hands. Frieren's clone casted that spell with just her imagination.
One more indication of how badass Denken is. He is the only examinee (excepting Frieren of course) who had no single one on one bad matchup a,one all the others. His clone could only be countered by ganging up on it with numbers.

I was also thinking that going up against Burg first without having seen everyone before you fail would give you somewhat of an advantage in that situation because the established pattern of repeated defeats would just make it harder to overcome. Especially if you're just another competent mage in a crowd of aspiring competent mages. Edit: Oh, and Denken was facing of against Wirbel's squad, there was a quick shot of him holding his light-based projectile spell at the ready. Also, that Ton guy who entered the dungeon alone was carried out by his golem in an overhead hallway shot. In the manga it's a frontal shot so you can see his face, but here you have to remember the color of his clothes lmao. I really expected to see his sorry face again since they made him squat alone in the darkness in a previous episode.
It is very interresting to rewatch Frieren because the show often introduce elements that are explained much later on, like Himmel's ring. So when these things appear for the first time you already know the meanning so you can understand better what the context of the scene and the characters feelings.
Ubel definitely didn't intend on killing Burg. After all, she did want to pass the test, and killing in that particular test was an immediate disqualification. Genuinely, her whole deal isn't that she's innately all that blood thirsty, beyond enjoying fights to the death, but rather that she feels no remorse whatsoever over actually killing someone. It's almost worse, in some ways, cause a genuine serial killer would specifically target people, but she might just kill you cause you inconvenienced her.
Here's a theory: Sense is a self-proclaimed pacifist, and while the clone definitely hurt a lot of participants, it never did try to fatally wound anyone. The only time it "tried hard" is against Übel. When Denken and the lot opened up the boss room, Frieren's clone only used white Zoltraak. The clones mimic the aggressiveness of its targets too, hence, I don't think it cared much about Fern for most of the fight. I'd go so far as to say the clone copied Frieren's excitement to fight a strong opponent, and only got pissed when Fern interrupted the fight by hurting her. The almighty push by the clone was akin to disciplining Fern via spanking. Was never meant to kill her, and let's be honest if it wanted to it would have done so in a blink of an eye.
I noticed that they did not show Fern's replica fighting at all. It was done off screen. What insanity is this anime's staff hiding from us? The clone wouldn't have held back and only used Basic Offensive magic like the real Fern. What is she hiding?
Methode actually defeated ot pretty easy, since we were shown than she could easily restraint Fern. Even though we don't actually see the fight in the manga either, when it cuts back to them Methode was just chilling, the anime made it seem more dramatic for some reason 🤷🏾♀️
fern doesn't hold back by using basic offensive magic. that's just what she's the best at, and possibly the only attack spell she can cast (this is not confirmed, but even in dire situations she only uses zoltraak). You just need to watch the episode.. fern only used zoltraak against the clone of frieren till the end, and she for damn sure wasn't holding anything back.
Just imagine having to take on Frieren with no help and not having herself there to tell you her weaknesses impossible. And also they had to go 4v1 against the demon lord (from what we know so far don’t know how exactly the fight went) how scary was the demon lord?!!!

These exams are only held every couple of years and the privilege earned from achieving first class mage-hood would far outweigh any thrill Ubel would get from offing one of the proctors
@@TheGenreVerse honestly l was as well but trust me, you sometimes talk about your soldier days, that's why l felt it was a worth try, child warriors opharns forced in war to survive in a world were war is a constant , what makes it a worthy mecha show even with it's flaws is the more they seek freedom the more war engulfs them.but if she not into mecha it's all good, there is more stuff out there.
The VA for Methode has done many roles, but maybe you recognize her from Spy Family where she voiced Sonia, or from Dr Stone where she played Ruri, and if you've been watching Mashle, she's Lemon. She's also going to be voicing Reze in Chainsaw Man, who was the girl in the teaser for the film. It's sad that people are spoiling Frieren for you. Not only is it just not fun to be spoiled, people are interfering with your reactions and by extension your job and channel. Loved the reaction from your cat, though.

It's easy to defeat Frieren and pass the dungeon...just bring a mimic then go for the Spiegel while she's crying it's dark and scary. No need for all that magic 😂
Obviously Übel didn't want to kill the first class mage, she is not killing people randomly, she plays with the fear and is not hesitant to kill someone if they are an actual threat to her, she has probably experienced messed up shit and had to get through harsh circumstances
Übels motivation is just seekingthrills and contest what others deem to be undoable. It is a crude way of proving herself worthy. So she wanted to overcome the "arrogance" of Burg (german: castle) of his magic cloak deemed by others to be indestructible. She is just outrageous with her ability of magical control coming from feelings and not logic.
Frieren more like Freezer ! Its like watching through that dragonball scouters failing to measure Frierens actual strengh! Insane ! By the way RIP Dragonball inventor!
also übel 100% killed the proctor on accident. it's more clear in the manga cuz she looks a little more surprised and im pretty sure she says "oops" after doing it. she really didnt intend on cutting him in half.

A 3rd class beating a 1st class says it all, its not beacaue you are a first class mage does not mean you are strong... these classes are only for show and used as passes/passport, title for nobilities to use for social standing in high class cities...imagine who are these high class mage society aside from Sense, they might be weak as fuck... there are even more stronger mages that did not pass or not even a 3rd class rate at that and can beat 1st class mages...haha I hope MADHOUSE will renew for second season because the next arc will be more action packed...and more Denken and methode story and their time to shine...El dorado arc!!!
what is blud waffling. Ubel was only able to beat Burg and Sense because she's special and because she's the perfect counter for the both of them. Sense could literally body everyone else in the exam aside from frieren. these classes are NOT only for show, only 45 people in the whole world are first class mages. I don't even know what you're talking about with regards to nobility, it's not like you can buy your first class certificate or anything, you need to pass the exam to get it and you can see by these tests that the exams are pretty demanding. All the first class mages are pretty capable in one way or another. Ubel also was only disqualified because she killed the examineer and that was against the rules. you seriously don't know what you're talking about.
I don't like how she destroyed the Spigel. I would have at least tried to disable it somehow. It is too valuable to destroy as i don't think it is a "monster" just an old piece of lost tech. A security system.
