Hmm I wouldn’t say it’s normal to be able to imagine cutting something that you perceive as not being able to be cut. Imagine the clothing having a physical shield in front of it instead of magic. It’s a bit harder to imagine cutting through with just a knife. That’s how mages must view some defensive magics. Instinctually they know it is going to block. So, perfectly imagining cutting something you know that stops your attack is challenging. Essentially, Ubel can negate this simply by believing in her ability to perfectly imagine cutting through things. Which does personally lead me to wonder HOW Ubel can imagine cutting things. The fact that she cut through him also shows she knows exactly how to picture cutting someone open. So maybe that means as she imagined cutting his clothing she perhaps let her mind wonder into what she perceived it to be like cutting his body completely in half too.

Burg - Castle Fans theorize that "the pinnacle of magic" Frierens Clone used is something akin to her having such great control over mana that it manifests as a natural phenomenon, as if Frierens will is enforced on reality and could explain why Fern can not perceive it as an spell or even any Mana from it. Another possibility is some type of Magic she copied from a Demon that is highly advanced (like a sort of Gravity Spell) since Sein mentioned anything they cant understand is classified as a Curse and cant be perceived by Mages as an Spell.
