I bought this microwave on March 18, 2018 and I really like it except for two issues. It is a really nice looking microwave and it really is very quiet. My other microwave, which was also a Frigidaire was 10 years old, it died. I got this at Lowes on sale. One of the things I noticed, and I also seen it in your video, is the dark spots on the white part when you open the door. It's in the upper right side of the opening on the white part. I also had that issue. I believe that the black paint came off the door and was maybe not quiet dry when the assembled these pieces together or something is going on there. It doesn't seem to hurt the operation of the microwave. I was able to get the dark spots cleaned off but they have even come back several times. I am hoping that I have either slowed it down or completely stopped it. I finally place a paper towel in there and left it and even left it when I was running the microwave. I did notice that where these spots are the paint is chipped on the white part on the opening and on the black on the door. Really not sure why this is happening. Maybe someone at Frigidaire will look into this issue. The other issue I have is the cheap charcoal filter that Frigidaire provides for this microwave. It also leaves a lot of little pieces of charcoal when you remove it from the bag. Not very clear instructions on how to exactly insert this in the opening after you remove the screw from the cover and open it up. It obviously has the area for a charcoal filter that has a metal frame, which is the more common one but is about $50 bucks on Frigidaire website. Not really sure if these things do much anyway. Anyway, thanks for posting the video it was very helpful!

Thanks for sharing this interesting observation. I remember the black marks from the door. I also remember wiping them off. I just looked and they’ve come back albeit lightly. I wiped them off again, but it’s an annoyance. I don’t see any chipping paint, only “smudging.” My charcoal filter isn’t shedding, but I’ve experienced that with aged charcoal filters in air purifiers. I agree the instructions to insert the filter are vague. Thanks again for posting!

We just bought this microwave after 11 yrs of using our ge that was bought from a second hand store, this one was almost $100 off and seemed to have pretty much perfect reviews
@BruceAlanR

We've had this model for a few years now and I think it's pretty good, but not perfect. The two things I like the least about it are the tone of the beep and the soft membrane buttons. I find the buttons have to be pressed just right and harder than my somewhat arthritic fingers can tolerate. Other than that, we like the cooking results, the easy to clean smudge proof stainless, and that the microwave doesn't have a convection oven feature (used to have it on our GE and never used it). We've just ordered the matching (Gallery Series) gas cooktop and single wall oven, so I'm hoping to review them once I've installed and used them for a few months. Thanks for the comment!

BalanR we have the matching oven, bought it Black Friday when ours broke and it works pretty well but for some reason one burner cooks so much slower than all the others, we had it serviced and they said its fine
@BruceAlanR

Do you have the range/oven single slide in unit? We ordered the single wall convection oven and the separate 5-burner gas cooktop, which were our only options given the cutout sizes we’re working with. Trying to avoid an entire kitchen renovation. 🙄

Thank you! What happens when you try to set the power level before the cooking time?
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 6 лет назад
Thank you for the question. With this microwave, you must select the cooking time before selecting the power level. If you press the power level button before selecting the cook time, nothing happens other than a quick triple-beep indicating improper selection.

Manny Loera After installing the microwave I put the rack in the basement and haven’t seen it since. It’s meant to be used when cooking multiple dishes at the same time; for example, reheating multiple plates of leftovers or perhaps cooking multiple microwaveable dinners at the same time. 😃

You could try adding a little piece of cellophane plastic to the inside of the plastic cover on the LED lights; and since LEDs produce next to no heat, the cellophane won't melt/ get damaged! I bet there are plenty of yellow tones of cellophane plastic on arts and crafts supplies stores.

Can you change the power level when using the express cook numbers and can you add 30 sec to the timer when in use.?
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 2 года назад
You can neither change the power level when using the preprogrammed selections nor add 30 seconds to a program. Once the cooking program has completed, you can add 30 seconds of cook time by pressing START. If you are cooking something and not using a preset program, you can press START at any time to add 30 seconds.

I just bought this microwave and the only thing I hate about it is the display. In your video the display is green (which matches my current Frigidaire oven). However, they changed the display to a VERY bright white, which lights up our house at night, and is also very hard to read from further than 10 feet away (clock).
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 года назад
You’ve just answered a question for me! Our 20 year old Thermador cooktop and oven had to be replaced a few months ago and I figured I would go with the Frigidaire Gallery series so they’d match the microwave. Once installed, I was thinking, why doesn’t the display of the microwave in the series match the new oven? Sadly they must have changed the display at some point. I agree the stark white is painful. Thanks for the helpful comment!

Thanks for review and if you still own this please remove the 3 screws and 1"x30" packing plate just under the door when you open it ... it looks so sloppy with it installed. Reinstert the 3 screws once plate is removed. Looks so much cleaner and as said its a packing plate and not ever mentioned in the manuals. Regards
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 года назад
FYI - In reviewing the installation guide, it refers to the 1"x30" plate under the door as a "heat shield." I don't believe it should be removed. My guess is that it protects the underside of the door from the heat generated by a cooktop below.

Hello, does your suck air well when recirculation? Mine sucks very little. The fan is blowing great just not sucking welll.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 6 лет назад
Daniel - My Frigidaire sucks air as well as the GE Profile model it replaced. You will not feel a “vacuum equivalent” amount of suction under the microwave even when the fan is on high. If you remove one of the grease filters underneath and stick your hand up towards the back, you will feel air lightly being drawn up by the fan. If air is blowing fine out the top front, there aren’t likely any obstructions, but you may want to remove the charcoal filter and have a look to make sure. The microwave comes from the factory setup to direct air out the front-top vent, so if air is coming out the front-top vent as shown in the video, it’s likely set up properly for recirculating. One of the drawbacks of using a microwave as a range hood is that it has a lower fume collection rate because a microwave doesn’t extend over the front two cooktop burners like a range hood would. Hope that helps! Thanks for asking the question.
@danielwaldrip
@danielwaldrip 6 лет назад
Yah, I just took mine down and inspected the motor. Everything is in its proper position. It's just whenever I turn it on High it is blowing out the front top really good but the suction is very bad. I double checked everything and no obstructions. If I put a pot of boiling hot water under it barely even pulls in the air. My last GE that was dirty as i'll get out would suck 10x better this this new clean one. I am about 18 inches from the stove top to the top of the microwave. Just can't understand if the motor is blowing so much air out why its not sucking as much.

Watching in 2024. I have this newer model with the bright display. Does anyone know how to get the quick options back on? For example, if I hit my 30 seconds button or if I hit the 1 button for 1 minute, it no longer starts automatically. The display just says “food”.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 5 месяцев назад
I find that “Food” appears if I put something in the microwave, close the door, and then don’t press an option for roughly a minute. “Food” will also appear if I heat something up and then forget about it, and then minutes later I press a quick option to reheat it. In both cases if I open the door and then close it, the quick options work again. Hope that solves the problem.

LaVerne- Duct tape works best, but if you don’t have any, try blotting the blotch with the sticky part of the sticker you removed. That might work, although duct tape always comes in handy around the house. Thanks so much for subscribing and leaving a comment.

I seen a review that was on Lowes regarding this issue. The person that posted it said they used a hair dryer which in essence heated the glue adhesive enough that the sticker came off. I have used WD40 at times to remove stickers. It loosens the glue and off the sticker comes.

Good to know! Thanks! Interesting that you don’t use the setting and have figured out how to use a time that works better. I stopped making full servings of oatmeal (1/2 cup oats, 3/4 cup water) every morning so the oatmeal setting ends up making what I call exploding oatmeal… it’s a mess. I’ve learned that for 1/3 a cup of oatmeal and 2/3 cup of water I do 2 minutes on high, 2 minutes at 50%, stir, and do one more minute on high. I also recently had to change the fuse, which wasn’t too difficult, but it’s dangerous to do if you don’t know what you’re doing.

When "Filter" appears in the display, it's time to replace the PureAir® Filter. The part number is OTRFILTER1 ($20 on Amazon). Once replaced, you can reset the indicator by pressing the CLOCK & SETTINGS button repeatedly until "Pure Air Filter Reset" appears in the display. It will toggle between "Pure Air Filter Reset" (to reset the filter reminder, which will remind you every 6 months) and "Pure Air Filter Off" (turns off the reminder). When it toggles to "Pure Air Filter Reset," press START to reset the filter reminder. If you don't want to receive reminders every 6 months, press START when it toggles to "Pure Air Filter Off."

My 72 year old mother purchased this microwave for her once in 40 years kitchen remodel & she can't open the freaking door! You actually have to yank on the door to pop it open. She doesn't use it because of this. And I don't care what they say about smudge resistant. This thing shows every fingerprint & smudge all over the stainless. The beep is aggravatingly annoying. Do I sound bitter? Because Mom could finally afford to have her kitchen redone and she can't even use her new over the range microwave. Sad
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 4 года назад
I’m sorry to hear you don’t like it. I agree the beep is annoying. I always keep sound off because it sounds like a blasting smoke detector... it’s horrid! Regarding the door, I agree it’s a little tough. The way I get around it is to grasp the handle with the four fingers of my left hand and push off the microwave with my thumb near the keypad. That way my thumb is acting like a lever and it requires less effort. I’m surprised you don’t like the smudgeless stainless. We rarely have fingerprints on it (the keypad is a different story) and when the family leaves prints, it cleans off easily with dish soap and water. Again, sorry you don’t like it.
@j3scott721
@j3scott721 4 года назад
@@BruceAlanR Funny enough, that beep was the only thing the old lady liked about it. Agreed the prints come off easily but the stainless (at least moms) show all the prints & hand smudges but prob due to the yanking of the door. The keypad grime of course is to be expected. I might actually like the microwave despite all the smudges if she could just open that damn door.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! One thing that's impossible to review is longevity, so I greatly appreciate it when folks chime in with their experiences. It's unacceptable for an appliance to have major parts failure within a few years. We've had this Frigidaire for just over 2 years and I was hoping it would last as long as the 10 year old GE Profile it replaced. Thanks again!

Not getting much suction out of the bottom exhaust 👎🏻
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 года назад
I have to agree with you. Keep in mind the unit’s effectiveness as a range hood will also depend on multiple factors. For example, BTU’s of the cooktop, distance between the cooktop and bottom of the microwave, size of the kitchen, etc. We recently got a Frigidaire Gallery 5 burner gas cooktop and after doing the math, the 300 CFM fan of this microwave isn’t really enough to use more than 3 burners at the same time... which we rarely do anyway. I recently changed the carbon filter and washed the underside vent/grease filters, and that helped a little. You may want to try that to see if suction improves. Thanks for leaving a comment.
