I have the igloo branded one. It's great I've had it nearly a year, and I use it when I have parties because the fridge can't keep up with everyone making drinks 😂 just make sure you clean it monthly, since it recirculates the water hardwater buildup and mold can become a problem. When I clean it I let it run with distilled vinegar and water for a day or so, then drain it and wipe down the parts inside (pain in the ***) and clean it with clean water.

Just bought one, it is for a personal use and when you have a party, let's say I was to have a scotch on the rocks, in 8 minutes I have enough to have 2 drinks , fresh ice that does not taste the freezer.
Thank you for the video and advice. I bought the same machine at Goodwill yesterday for $9.00. It did not come with an instruction book. I did not want to try it untill I watched a few videos and read the comments. Yours was alot of help. Now it time to make the ice. I hope it works.
I like the small ice. For one heavy user, I think it works great. It becomes a chore to keep it going to make ice for guests or other family members. I have trouble with my well water staining it. It’s not really easy to clean.
''THAT'' Was a very helpful review Mr. GameGeezer!!! Being in the same situation as you, my refrigerator/freezer has no ice maker & ''I HATE MESSING WITH ICE CUBE TRAYS!!!''! The ''MONTH LATER'' part of your review was particularly helpful by informing us of the melting ''problem'' with the particular model you have & you had to use an ''ice box'' in your ice box (what model # is it???). Along with no longer dripping water on the floor while going from the faucet to the refrigerator, I'd rather use the space taken up by ice cube trays (or an ice holding box) for frozen food. For me, that would defeat the purpose of having this particular model since I'm wanting to rid my freezer of ice cubes in favor of food. Your review was still helpful by pointing out the ''melting problem'' this model of ice maker has due to it's design & being manufactured without any refrigeration to keep the ice frozen. Your video review told me to look for a model which keeps it's ice ''cubes?'' frozen within it. Thank you for an informative review, Mr. GameGeezer!
The sushi place I used to go to always had these pellet ice cubes which I always wanted to find, this is so cool! Thanks for the video, short & to the point! :D
I have one just like that! It is not the ice touching the tray that stops it from working. It is the photo sensor in front of the basket that sees the ice blocking the light. That tells the unit to shut down since the basket is full. These little guys make a lot of ice and you can put it in a plastic grocery bag and stick it in the freezer for a cooler and just turn it on 30 minutes before a meal and get ice straight from the basket!
Got a similar one from Sam's Club. It only has one size, kind of a medium between the small and large. Works great! No more lugging home bags of ice. But one note: these don't use Freon for the refrigerant. They use highly purified Butane, which is why the manual and machine have warnings about the flammable gas if the compressor leaks. Butane is a great refrigerant and works well. Except is flammable. No problem for me. I cook on a butane stove by choice because I love the results compared to my electric stove. So butane is just fine by me.
I bought one yesterday. It’s been running for 2 hours with no ice. The first cycle created small cubes that melted after a few minutes. Since then, it’s just cycling water. Edit: I ended up returning that one and getting a new one. The new one worked perfectly out of the box and has been making ice every day since.
I mean if it has enough water and is set to large cubes it should have made a good amount of Ice in 2 hours. I know when you first buy it the box says to let the machine sit so the Freon can stable out . So if you bought the machine laying on its side or put it on its side in your car then the Freon needs time to set back the correct way . Otherwise maybe you just got unlucky and got a lemon
We bought this one for our class B RV and loved it with two exceptions. First it seemed to always need babysitting because the water would not empty where the ice cubes fall and the plastic paddle then just floats above the cubes not emptying them into the basket then after a few rounds it seemed the compressor was stopping and starting and having trouble keeping going. We had to return it but are wondering if we just happened to get a defective unit. Anyone else have the same problems with this???
I just bought a second one. They both last less than a year before they stop working. I am switching brands now maybe it is just the frigidaire that stops working every 6 - 8 months.
This would be great for my RV at dog shows (or even without my RV - just set it up at my grooming site). The bags of ice always freeze to the bottom on my freezer.
Even when you get a "nice fridge" you will still need that thing. Modern fridges have restricted the ice storage capacity. you will have enough ice for 3 or 4 glasses before it runs out. 1 in 3 people i know with ice maker fridges also have one of those
@@stephaniesAdventuresAndMore IMO, that's a good idea. I don't have 1 ''yet'', however, running a couple of cycles through it at 1st would flush or clean it &, possibly, help prevent taste issues. Although it says you posted your question/suggestion 9 months ago, I believe people should use your question as advice.
Or get a small chest freezer and go buy a few bags of ice for $2 at the store. And now you have a big chest freezer for storing meat when its on sale to save you money. When we are camping during the summer 100F days we go through 3 bags of ice a day, and its not $2 at the camp store, so this might work great for camping and run it on a 12v battery with inverter.
Tap water , the owners manual says to not use distilled water so it more than likely means you can't use filtered water either cause the ice maker has a sensor to tell if it has water in it.
I have an Igloo brand ice maker like this and at odd times it will work and then sometimes it skips the harvest cycle and just freezes the water in the tray under the evaporator rods, into a block of ice. Has anyone else had that problem?
The ice lasts for about 18 hours but for longer storage and to free up space you need to empty out the catch bin so the ice maker can continue producing ice , if you leave it in the bin and it gets full the ice will trip the sensor and tell the machine to shut down.
Well I have one a d I love it PERIOD!I dont know how I ever lived with out one! My basket gets full every hour and I have75 PIECES of ice(I KNOW CAUSE I count it)! So I can make in 12 hours 2 full big bags of ice and one big bin full of ice! All that ice last me 5 days! So every 5 days I make that much ice just in 12 hours! Like I said that I dont know how I ever lived my life with out one! I got mine at Sam's club are the best ones to buy! I have an 3 years warranty as well! AN MUST!!!! 42 yr old who loves jb
Thanks a lot I recently purchased this ice maker and I thought It kept the ice cold I have no Room in my freezer that's why i bought the ice maker taking it back thank you for your review.
It doesn't sound like a big deal, cause if you think about it, when you buy a bag of ice, They are all clumped together also, so you have to break them apart by throwing the bag of ice on ground to break them, right. Not an issue. Sounds like a winner...
I put mine in a ziplock bag! Yes they do freeze together but they break apart easley! Like my machine it gets hot here in the desert so I need my ice !
I have this machine my ice doesn't look like this it's very thin and clear I'm returning it I press the small and large button ice still comes out small and clear
You mean using ice cube trays like we did 20 years ago? That works great until you spill the water putting them in, but you can use a real ice maker in the freezer not the door ice.
READ THIS... GAVE MINE 2 MORE FANS''' S GOIN.. ONE CLOSER TO COMPRESSOR..AREA AN COLD DAMP TOWELS ON TOP SIDES..(UNDER ICE BASKET PART TO THEN PUT TOWEL ON TOP OF DAMP ONE'S an HUGE ICE TEA .. I MADE PRETTY QUICKLY..
