I really like that it gives a graphical representation of the attack, and shows where you are in it during playback. There are a lot of virtual instruments where I've had trouble understanding what exactly some of the parameters related to attack do based on their names and the descriptions of them given in the documentation, but here there is no ambiguity. It's interesting that the basic tone of the pizzicato sounds, to my ear, less convincing than the arco. I would have thought arco would be much more difficult to recreate, but this isn't the first synthesized string virtual instrument that is like this. Fortunately, traditional sample libraries leave a lot less to be desired with pizzicato than with arco, and there are endless options for those.

Wow..physical modelling is sounding awesome, imagine how much GB we save from big contact libraries, but as maybe it can be good to layer recorder and synthetic ones

Wow Sean. That sounds pretty darn usable -- like not going to replace a high end string library for soundtracks but in a track? Not bad and especially that intro. Nice work man. I'll be getting the demo to play around with this.

Good stuff. I already own the Swam Libraries and AAS String Studio but darn if this doesn't add just a bit more. I'd love it if String Studio and Friktion had a love child.

Awesome demo! As a reason suite/FL studio user, I had one question I wanted to ask? How is it's usage CPU wise. I have the Arche strings by Expressive E which are a similar concept of physically modeled strings and I find them to be too stressful on the CPU to use most of the time on either my desktop or laptop. I end up mostly using some of the cheaper Spitfire Audio libraries for strings mostly because they are much less CPU intensive. Also greetings from another musician/producer from Ireland!

Very light on my CPU! It seems high in this video but that's because I was running my buffer at 64 samples, and was screen recording at the same time! Rocking a Ryzen 3900x here

@@seanmurrayguitar Thanks for replying! I found that to be the case too after trialing it last night. With Arche, my FX-8350 runs about 50% CPU with one instance, basically even just with it as a solo instrument. With Friktion I had a project with 4 Friktions plus a bunch of percussion and effects on the different tracks and the whole project was running at below 30% CPU usage in FL studio with all instruments playing. So I will definitely be recommending Friktion now. I've been playing around with trying to get some really cool ethnic string sounds out of it, and having a lot of fun. My PC isn't powerful enough to reliably run at 64 samples, I usually run at like 384-512 for larger projects, but at those rates aside from doing crazy multilayered sound-design heavy bass music, it gets by ok. I would really love to get a PC setup with a Ryzen 9, it would be really useful (I'd also be using it for Game Development and 3d animation/rendering, so it would really help).

@@happyduck1424 Arche is really cool, but I think this one is more practical. Arche was mostly designed to be used with the Expressive E Touche, but I don't have one (got the arche bundle really cheap, and was happy to support the team, even though I don't use it much). Friktion seems to be a lot more practical with a standard midi controller and seems much more versatile sound design wise. Arche you have full control of a virtual bow, but I think it's a lot more limited sound design wise. I use the Reason Rack as a VST in Ableton and it's a big part of my workflow. The cool instruments and effects of Reason, with the workflow of Live. Best of both worlds for me!
