In 1558 Nicolò Zeno announced to the world he had found in his family home in Venice, a map and accompanying letters that described a long voyage made by the his ancestors. On this voyage the Zeno Brothers found an island called Frisland, there is just one problem, Frisland doesn’t exist. Nicolò had invented the entire story, which was widely believed to be true for centuries and in doing so put his family name in the history books.

Hard disagree, there is good reason to believe the island did exist. It simply eroded away over the centuries because it wasn't a rock island. If you search for 'rockall platue' you will find this at roughly the point where the maps show frisland, there is still 1 tiny rockpoint left above the waves now, called rockall island

No, Frisland was located southwest on the map. Rockall is located very close to Northern Ireland and Scotland. If there was a fully formed island in that location that close to Ireland, it would have been discovered a long time ago. Critical thinking.

I guess they forgot the ice huh? This was clearly a real place. On some maps, after it had disappeared, it states “this was the former spot of the sunken land of Friesland” The problem with this island being a so called phantom island is many things. First-all the mapped cities. Even singular maps of these cities Secondly-there is no ice?! What is going on with no ice anywhere on any map from the 1500’s to the 1700’s that has been authenticated. Which is most! Lastly (of what I shortly want to point out) many different map makers made their own individual maps. Not just copied. There is over 50 different cartography map makers who done this in the 200 year period. Map making was a big business back then.

1. Its name is presumably also unrelated to the ancient kingdom (and later county) of Frisia? 2. How do you smelt pyrite for _years_ without realizing it ain't gold? 3. Unfortunately for Nicolò, the only lasting legacy of the name "Zeno" was the ancient Greek philosopher. This means that when people think "Zeno," they don't think "island discovery hoax," they think "Achilles _can_ catch up with a tortoise, you dolt".

Highly reccomend the book Venetian Explorers by Andrea di Robilant. Goes into a lot of depth on this theory. It's much more likely that Zeno referred to the faroe islands and did in fact make it to Newfoundland, modern day Canada. Or at the least Niccolò most likely did not entirely forge this account. That he did was a misconception popularised in the 19th - early 20th century by Danish and English nationalists wanting to claim the north for themselves and retain national pride

Most Frisians in the Netherlands identify as Frisian first instead of Dutch, but this doesn't say anything about if the island really did exist or not. The color "groen" you mention is actually the Dutch translation for green, in Frisian green is called grien.
