I’m from Houston Galveston area. I grew up eating frito pie. I think it’s name pie because the way we cooked it was like a casserole. It reminds me a bit of the cheese enchiladas. And we did top it off with black olives. I still make it that way. It’s delicious. A friend of mine who ate it for the first time wanted me to make this for her wedding. Lol
I’m from Texas City, so basically the same area. Little League baseball games and football games was the place to get this treat. I still make it still. My family loves this.
Hello from California👋 . I grew up eating this! My mom called it Chili Bowls. We NEVER had it without our Fritos. She would make us Taco Salad also with Fritos. Loving your channel Marcy! I ❤ NEW MEXICO
I was born and raised in Fort Worth Texas and grew up eating Frito Pie. I love that you added beans to yours. I found a quick hack for easy Frito Pie is to go to Wendy's, order a chili with cheese and onions, then go to a gas station and buy a bag of Fritos and then go home and mix them together. Wendy's for it being a fast food restaurant has pretty good chili.
Frito pie is my absolute jam. It's something I've always loved, that was a comfort food as a kid, and is even moreso as an adult. Makes sense though, I was born in Texas.
San Antonio here☺️ It’s big in our town. Always at every outdoor food event and sometimes a quick at home dinner idea😋 It’s always delicious..especially with a dollop of Rico Nacho cheese…which is another San Antonio staple❤️
Fritos Pie is one of my frenemy foods! I love it but it gives me heartburn bad! But like a fool I still eat it! I use the lighter salt fritos and no beans. I like the small bags but I cut them horizontally like we got them at the Tastee Freeze in Taos! I've made these with Won Ton strips and homemade tortilla chips too. Love that you did this, this I consider a native New Mexican food!
Yes! I would have cut the bag the other way, but for the thumbnail, I wanted people to read “Fritos” head on. 😜 It’s sad how you can’t eat certain foods as you get older. I drink a warm apple cider vinegar concoction every morning for that very reason and I rarely get heartburn anymore. Thanks for the comment.
My elementary school in Oklahoma would serve this about once a month for lunch, always in a small Frito bag split along the back seam. Even though it was pretty plain (Fritos, mild chili, onions, cheese) it was hugely popular.
Here in Texas, we could always find this treat at little league baseball games and football games! Grew up eating this. My family likes this and I still make it occasionally. My husband is the chili maker, but in Texas, no beans!
We have Frito chili pie at least a few times a year! But we add tamales and onions to ours and bake in the oven. In a baking dish, add a little chili to the bottom, sprinkle some onions, then Fritos on top of that, then tamales, then more Fritos and chili and onions and lastly cheese. Bake in the oven until bubbly 😋
I love Santa Fe! Lord willing, I'll be there next week. Really looking forward to some cooler temps. May have to find a place that serves Frito Pies while there.
Albuquerque and get all the yummy things here in New Mexico.. I'm a chili addict to and if I can get away with putting chili on my food I will and it doesn't matter if it's Green or red, jalapeno or yellow hots.. Love your channel jus found it a few weeks ago great job.. thank you
When I was a kid in the 60s, I lived in Watts, CA. A cross the street from my house was a black owned neighborhood dinner that made the best chili. For 10 cents, I would buy a bag of fritos with chili on top.. I'm 64 now, and I still wish I had that chili recipe....
I grew up in New York City and I’ve been eating Chili Cheese Fritos all afternoon. I wonder if my breath smells like I’ve been licking the work receptionist’s mature feet. ✌️😂
I grew up in Austin, Texas and used to eat it all the time!! I love it. It's been a long time since I've had some and craving it...this recipe sounds amazing!
Ok in the 60's I lived in Groton CT just off base in housing. My mom would make this but added green olives or black olives to her chili covered it in cheese and baked it in the oven. The Fritos on the bottom got all soft like masa, and the top was crunchy. It was delicious 😋
Oh wow, Connecticut!? And here I was thinking it would only be people in Texas and New Mexico responding. That’s awesome. Sounds like a cross between Frito Pie and Tamale Pie. Either way, I’m here for it! 🤤
@@marcyinspired1442 I kind of think it may have been a recipe put out by Frito lay back in the early to mid 60s. Maybe even further than that! Now that planted a seed of exploration. I must ask Jeeves or yahoo it ?!
@S. Peters Now, you got me curious. I just looked it up, as well. Seems likely that it does go back to Frito Lay, but the article I read wasn't definitive. Who would have thought Frito Pie could be controversial! 😂
I only recently found your channel and am happily watching your older videos. We ate Fritos chile pies in Oklahoma back in the 70s and probably before as well.
I grew up near Seattle, WA and first had this as a child at my city’s local fair. I was hooked and my family has been making this for as long as I can remember. I can’t eat chili without corn chips or tortillas, though. Frito Pie ruined that for me, in the best possible way! 😋
@@marcyinspired1442 Use to sell them in Half Moon in Tempe, when it was open. They sucked though. Used canned wolf brand or some crap of chili and not real chile
I grew up in Albuquerque. My entire family is from the NM area and has lived their for a very long time. I'm going to try this recipe and will use Chile powder from Hatch (the best chile ever!!!).
@@marcyinspired1442 You're welcome. I loved your video. I subscribed to your channel. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. I also have a passion for food and cooking.
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏 Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. God bless you. Thank you. I appreciate you. 😊Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your LORD and personal saviour??? I do.
I went to high school in Aztec New Mexico and was a carhop at the local root beer stand. One our most popular things on the menu was the frito pie. Then came taquitos, then came the mamma burger, the papa burger, the teen burger, and the baby burger. Plus the fried chicken and other things….lol.
My mom always made us Frito pie when ever we had left over chili. I'm originally from Eastern New Mexico but my dad was military so we lived in many places including Panama. I love all your videos especially Mexican themed as that is my heritage.❤❤
I eat this atleast once a month here in TN. Love making it with homemade leftover chili, fresh diced tomatoes, black olives, cheese, chopped green onions(scallions) and of course sour cream! Yum yum
Yum, I love chili pie. We usually make that or quesidillas with left over chili. We always make chile differently. Last time we used the chugwater chili that we picked up on the way to Yellowstone. Wasn't my favorite. I need to try that hatch chili powder. From Colorado.
Hello to you in Colorado and thanks for the comment. I almost never make chile from powder. I tend to only use it for additional flavoring. But ever since I got this particular one, I'm using it on everything.
My great grandma owned the land in hatch where the Chile is grown. Growing up my Pampa(grandpa her son) always had bags and bags of Chile hanging in his garage 😂
I love Frito pie is to eat it all the time with my kids whenever they had fundraisers at school until one day I made it for them at home and surprise them with it.
I Live in NV but being born and raised in New Mexico, I always cook New Mexico food for my family. Im new to watching you and your meals are either the same way I cook or very similar. Thank-you
I love that you took the time to share that with me. To be honest, when I started posting my recipes on RU-vid, I just thought of it as “food.” Then I started seeing a theme. I definitely cook “New Mexican,” and that has been the case no matter where I’ve lived. There’s something very special about the dishes we make, and even though there may be slight variations in our recipes, it still tastes like home. 🥰❤️
At our Seventh-day Adventist church potlucks we call it haystacks. Except we add chopped spinach to it on top of the chili and then also add black or green olives and some jalapeño otherwise everything else is the same. mmmm mmmm good! From MN and now live in Branson, MO. Both places I’ve had it 👍😃
Hello to you in Branson. Church potlucks are the best! I always wish people would bring printed recipes and put them beneath their dishes because I'm usually trying to hunt down recipes afterwards. I would never imagine this with spinach, but I don't knock anything until I try it. Thanks for the comment.
I love Frito pie!! I grew up in Albuquerque. I’m binge watching your channel as I just found it this morning looking for an authentic New Mexican green chile sauce. I now live near Phoenix. I have 5 pounds of frozen green chiles that my friend brought fresh from Hatch a couple of weeks ago. I think your recipes are the bomb!! Thank you for your videos!!
Thanks so much! I'm thrilled that you found my channel. I haven't been doing this very long, but am really enjoying sharing the recipes that are near and dear to my heart. If there's ever something specific you want to see, let me know. (Btw, I grew up in southern New Mexico and am now living in Arizona, as well.)
Marcy, born and raised in Atlanta, GA...and had Frito Pie many, many times! Then it was always with canned Chili...Love your channel and you've got me hooked on Hatch Chilies!!!! I have to order them on line and they are the 505 and 575 brands!!! Thank you!
Love frito pie. As a kid, we would go to a local park and would buy it there during baseball season. Question: If I just want to make chili for supper, using your recipe, could I substitute grou d beef for diced stew meat or even chili meat without altering the spices. Your recipe looks really good and very simple to make.
This Frito pie is going to be GREAT this football season as an appetizer!! I think I'll add a little diced jalapeno, then chili powder to taste. Thanks again Marcy for sharing.
I love the little Frito bags idea! I'm going to try that. Albuquerque, NM here. Frito pie makes everyone fall in love in with you. Always a fav! Thanks!
I love Frito Pie. Growing up in West Texas it was a staple. I will give your chili a shot for sure. I have a tried and true recipe however I like mixing it up and trying new recipes.
It's funny you say that because I have a tried and true recipe, too, but decided to mix it up for this video. If you grew up in Texas, I bet you make a fantastic chili. Thanks for watching & commenting. 😊
@@marcyinspired1442 I was born and raised in Midland but almost was born in Santa Fe where my parents married. I have 2 brothers that live in Albuquerque. Funny was 7 years I have lived on the Alabama Gulf Coast, it’s always a great treat to come home to Texas to eat great Mexican food and BBQ. Luckily I do a lot of cooking in my home and am able to get key seasoning and spices sent to me by family. I have a few key RU-vid creators I watch that focus on cooking just were I can have a taste of home.
@@rdcustomdiecast I interned in Midland two summers in a row, when I was in college, and have lots of great memories there. And I can relate to missing food from home. For many years my mom would mail red Hatch chile to me. I always wondered what the postal workers thought because you could smell it through the packaging. Lol
Yes I love Frito pie. Thank you for the recipe. I’m from Albuquerque , NM, but live now in AZ. I had Frito Pie in Santa Fe, in the Plaza In the little Frito bag.
I love eating but haven't been there in a while, Taco Bell taco Supreme bowl. but now i make my own version i bought a set of taco bowls at Rite Aide a few years ago. and made a this .but i just used large corn Tortillas, ground beef, onions, and taco seasoning. and added my topping, shredded lettuce, salsa, Kraft Mexican cheese, baked the Tortillas till crispy in the Tortillas bowl, and added everything but the salsa, and a dolop of sour cream. so good and one Tortillas fill me up.😊 .I'm making my grocery list this weekend and make this.
Frito pie was a school staple for lunch at my elementary school growing up in DFW. Thank you for the recipe. I didn’t know I could use cornstarch as a thickening agent.
I grow up in Dallas, TX and i'm 60 years old. I have been eating frito pies since I was a pre-schooler. Like stated every concession stand for little league/pop warner sporting events had frito pies on the menu. I always had flashbacks of my youth when I bite into one. For me it feels strange eating one out of a bowl with a metal spoon. A frito bag wth a plastic spoon is the way to go. Beans in a frito pie was a no go in my part of TX.
Born in Las Cruces raised in Northern California. I've had them and we love them. Your tutorial was good and being from Las Cruces we know our red chile and green and Hatch is one of the best. I'm gonna go get some Fritos so I can make some😆😋🙏
Conroe, TX. I never thought about this being regional, but it make sense as chili is also regional. I know there hasn't been enough science yet on microplastics, but I couldn't help but cringe a little at putting the chili directly into the Frito bag. Then I also noticed the plastic utensils being used with high heat. I can't say how healthy that is, but I do worry about it. Recently read about them finding microplastics in human heart tissue from ingesting microplastics. I'm sure that can't be good for us. But with plastic being endemic to the food chain at this point, it's not really surprising.
I didn't know this is a dish, but I've served Fritos with chile. I thought of it as a spin on nachos. I try to use the Fritos Scoops to scoop up the chile.
I have a 2018 boondock. And I don’t feel like any of the newer models have improved on the older ones. Mine came with the 12v fridge and once I upgraded the battery and added solar it’s better than the new ones. I have a fridge that slides out and I can’t believe they did away with the fridge. It’s the best part of the camper. I’ve personally never hit my head on the cabinet. I modded the water tank to be able to use all of it which is another issue with these. I’ve finally got mine where I’m really happy with it but not sure why they don’t come direct with these improvements.
I grew up in northern California and NW Montana and we had Frito pie couple times a month for dinner back in the 80s.. seen many variations over the years..
i really like how you explained everything step by step because i grew up in brownsville and this was my favorite and i tried making some with caned chilli and it wasnt as good but this recepi is the best ....thanx
I'm in Oklahoma and we always had it at the flea market for some reason and so I made it on my own later on. We call it Frito chili pie but same thing.
