Great video! Finally one that doesn't zoom in on the trains. What many don't understand is that if you use zoom, the train seems to be slower, since it also contracts the lengths. For example if you take a video that zooms in, you will notice that each waggon looks a lot smaller, at times only half as long. And then the speed of the train is actually twice as fast as perceived in that zoomed-in image. That's why many videos of the ICEs are so underwhelming, not really showing the real perception of speed they have.

Don't be tricked by this video. This is displaying one of the very few short stretches of trackage (around 1-2% of the total network) that allow for high speeds. Most of the track the ICE trains use is shared with much slower trains that stop every few miles forcing the ICEs to go just as slow as those trains.
@tomasmuller5839
@tomasmuller5839 5 лет назад

@steffenreimann2854
@steffenreimann2854 7 лет назад
Organgrinder1010 But you have the Acela. On the field of tilt technology you are 10 km/h faster than our ICE T. And keep in mind that the population density in the USA is much lower than in Japan, China or Europe. High speed trains are only useful in a distant of max. 1200 km. I think that is the main reason why you Americans are using planes instead of trains. But I keep the fingers crossed for you in case of the west coast projects around Los Angeles. :)

@adf5739 7 лет назад
There are many corridors where it could be done but the STUPID ignorant politicians and otrhers dont want it.
@DanTheCaptain
@DanTheCaptain 7 лет назад
Steffen Reimann Actually, it is not that good of a high speed service from what I heard. Most Acela Express trains are slowed down buy other passenger services and freight trains. Nor does the Acela Express have it's own true high soeed corridor. This is why the Acela trains never really reach their true top speed. The problem really is convincing congress and the stubourn public that high speed can change America (Which I belive it can). While I'm actually Canadian, we suffer from the same problems as America. The big barrier towards these high speed trains is cost and the issue that most railways aren't monopolized by freight companies. There for normal Amtrak services are often slow and delayed because the have to pull into a siding and let freight trains by. You also can't forget about the aging infrustructure. America (and Canada) are massive! Of course managing a huge railways network is hard work but it can be done. Look at China with it's massive railway network! Hell Japan with it's insanely complex string of rail for such a compact little country. So in conclusion... Can it be done? Yes, it can. I can't wait till California High Speed and Bright Line Florida goes into operation because these privately operated and funded progects will set the pace for the future.
@amtrak1214
@amtrak1214 3 года назад
Michael Botez I don’t think you understand why we don’t. Turning a few passenger rail corridors into high speed rail lines would already cost an arm and a leg. So maybe you should think about the price for turning the whole NETWORK into high speed rail. I’m surprised China was able to build a high speed rail network as large as theirs

There are some fences in Germany, but research results were that full fencing creates it's own issues in terms of rescue situations and especially that animals can't escape anymore once they made it inside the fencing which results in regular incidents in France. That's what I've read.
