My first ever attempt at a spiral topiary!! I thought I would try and do something creative with my Alberta Spruce Christmas Tree so watched quite a few RU-vid tips and tricks and now giving in a go!
This was one of the two Christmas trees I had in pots either side of my front door and I have been wanting to have a go at making a spiral topiary for some time. So here goes!! I don’t think it’s too bad for me first ever attempt. You have to start somewhere, don’t you?

Oh wow that is such a lovely comment, thank you 😍 well, this video was in January 2021 I think. I still have my spiral topiary, I planted it in the landscape, but it’s looking really dry unfortunately. I am trying to keep it going 🤣 I’ll give you an update on my next garden tour which I hope to film this week or next. Thank you so much Raw Ninja, you’ve made my day 😍

Hi there Mrs Milkshake, that is my ‘dog walking’ coat really and it has paint all over it too as I’m a messy painter so I’ve ruined it really but it’s quite old so I don’t really mind. It is a lovely colour though. Thanks for your lovely encouragement, I keep looking at the spiral and wanting to cut more off so I’m having to stop myself 🤣🤣🥳😍

Hi Jeannette, It is the same for us in Toronto: lockdown and unable to gather with people outside of our households. We have a few of these dwarf Alberta spruce in our garden as well. Last year we also turned one of them into a topiary. Well done 👍. Happy new year to you Jeannette! ❤️👍🇨🇦

Hi Janette, we went to visit our grandkids on Christmas day, now we've joined you in tier 4 So no visits anymore. I fancy owning a bonsai, so I look forward to watching that one. Poor tree! What a scalping! 😊 It looked great when you finished well done for having the courage to attack it like that. There was a point where I thought uhoh but you did good mate👍 I honestly think I would have kept going on and on and ruined it you did a great job. Can you use the cuttings to try to root them? Oh no tier 4 for you too! It’s just getting worse by the day everywhere isn’t it peach? Glad you got to see your grandchildren while you could, that must have been so lovely. Well I had an awful lot of fun trying my spiral topiary, I had watched so many ‘how to’ videos on YT but actually going in for the first cut is a bit of a gulp moment 🤣 but you have to amuse yourself somehow in a lockdown 🤣🤣 So cold today Steve! 🥶 ❄️ maybe it will snow? 😍

Oh Sandra!! 🤣🤣🤣 I thought you were talking about my greenhouse 🤣🤣 how funny. Yes, I’m going to try a bonsai with the other one, I’ve been watching a wonderful man called Peter who has a channel called Herons Bonsai and honestly you can sit there watching him and lose all track of time 🤣 he has made bonsais out of the exact same Alberta Spruce and so I am going to give it a go. Hopefully this week because we are back in lockdown over here so I have more time on my hands. I will show the video even if it turns out rubbish, which is quite possible! I love your enthusiasm and am binge watching your videos, I have a couple of bonsai but am too scared to trim them 😂, I have a big garden but some is on a slope, so quite difficult to plant/weed so am always looking for ideas etc, really enjoying your channel. Hello there and thank you. Yes I did cut the top off. It just seemed to look odd otherwise. But yes, it has survived and has since been planted in my landscape. I’d just always wanted to give it a try and it was easier than I thought. I did watch other videos on spiral topiary on YT first then just went for it. Give it a go, it’s a lot of fun 🤩 when I do my August garden tour I will make sure to show it. It doesn’t look a lot different because Alberta Spruces are quite slow growers. 😍

You are definitely brave and it looks great! I have the same type of mini Alberta Spruce and thought about doing the same thing. It takes time. Plus it can always grow back if you don’t like something, right?
