Little late to this video - but I just wanted to say your wife seems like a gem. Having a partner that supportive is so crucial to any journey that's challenging and full of uncertainty. Good on you both, very inspirational.

I started learning leatherworking in 1977 in junior high school. I don't have any power tools, but I do have an impressive collection of hand tools and stamps. I don't sell anything. I just make stuff to give as gifts, folks tend to keep them so I guess they're pretty good.

Thanks for the video. Very inspiring. I'm ready to get out of my desk job as well. Last year I started in leather craft. This year my wife and I made a corset for her to wear to the local ren. faire. We received a lot of positive feedback so now we are in the process of getting another one built to try to sell. Everything about it is hand made from the tooling, stitching, knot work, dyeing, I did it all by hand. It's very rewarding. Thanks again!

Not sure why you got such negative comments for this video. Not sure what people expect from a look at one person's journey that is exclusive to them. Maybe they need a course to invest in. "How to make money from leatherworking"...get all the fine details...nice video regardless of the stupid trolls. My take away is. Do the work.

Great video. How long did it take you brfore you opened up your own buisness? How long were you doing it prior? It seems like one day you passed that leather store and never looked back but how long did it take you to learn your craft beforre you took it to thr next level and opened your shop? Thanks!

Well, very nice but useless video. Why film and post this, exactly ? Wouldn't we, the viewers, get more out of such a video if the owner of the shop talked about how he made it out of the office job, what were his struggles, what did he go though, what advice does he has for aspiring leathercrafters, or any other crafter wanting to get out of the golden prison of 9 to 5 office work ? Instead we just get the usual feel good video, could have posted this on instagram would have been the same. A shame really, we could have leaned so much from this person.
@googla12
@googla12 Год назад
This comment seems useless. I am in a desk job position and I am trying to get into leather crafting as well. Almost same type of situation as this man so for me this is inspiring. Why take the time to make such a useless comment? Instead of asking for more, start being grateful for things you have.
@stephanefournier5581
@stephanefournier5581 Год назад
@@googla12 Same position as you here mate, it's no exception there are a lot of us like this. Why post this comment ? Well honestly because at one point we need to stop being fed empty content. Nice images that look good, here look at how well I'm doing, look at the nice shop around me. Look at what I did. You will find the exact same video 30 time with just a quick search. To me that's not inspiring, it's just like 99% of all useless content out there on youtube and all other platforms. And since there's a comment section that is there, and active for this video, exactly for the purpose of giving our opinion on the content we just viewed, well that is exactly what I did. I wrote my comment, my review, of the content I was presented with. I think that if the author injected more useful information and more life experiences in it's video, then the video would have been so much more useful for everybody. For this to work we need to be respectful of other viewer's opinions here, and not diss them. I don't need you to agree with my review, or find it helpful, as my review is there for the author of the content.
@mikedegrazia

@@stephanefournier5581 im pretty sure the person went over it briefly. Not sure there's more to say about it but work hard, sell your stuff. Go watch videos on how to start a business, there's lots of steps involved. Not sure that would be relevant to this video. But i do get what your saying 💯 percent. Theres only a handful of those type of videos in all of youtube. After almost 8 years of leatherworking i still haven't started a website yet. Just building my skillset to an acceptable and hopefully respectable level so as when i do post my work it does not come back to haunt me. Good luck on your journey.
@googla12
@googla12 Год назад
@@stephanefournier5581 Are you looking for a FREE video to give you a step-by-step process on how they built their business??? So odd to expect something like that. He mentioned it taking over 10 years. Go make a name for yourself instead of expecting more from something that you got for free.

nice video, BUT... there is one part where you really failed with your editing. the part where he says "we cut them out by hand", and at that exact same time you are showing him using the clicker press.... DOH!! lol. you really should have edited it so that it showed him using the clicker press when you mentioned it, and the same with showing him cutting by hand when he says they cut stuff by hand. it just gives more credibility to him as a craftsman that way. because as it is now, people are going to have the immediate reaction that I did when seeing him using a machine to cut leather right when he is claiming to cut it by hand. The details matter. and in short videos like this one, every single second matters. literally. you have to scrutinize every single second of footage and make sure it goes together and makes sense with the audio.
