"did they look like psychos!? Psychos don't explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a fuck how crazy they are!" Best rationalizing of vampires ever.
Yeah. Exactly. I loved that part. George Clooney was great in this. Seth was scum, but there were lines he still didn't cross. He was charismatic, intelligent and strategic.
I had fun convincing my mom to bring me to see this when I was 14. She wasn't happy watching it. I still love the movie. The ending gets me everytime as they pan off in the distance over a temple.
My mom rented it when it first came out and we sat down to watch it together. the moment they got to the strip club and Cheech starts ranting about pussy, she jumped up and turned it off. I didn't get to watch the whole movie for a couple years after that.😂
@@Wolf-bz6kq I was a teen when I watched that and with my parents...My face was bright red and stinging when the "lady's" junk rolled out lol...not good times at all
It scared the s*** out of me when I first saw it but I love it I've always loved Tarantino he's one of the greatest directors ever and Robert Rodriguez is pretty amazing himself
Absolutely love this film and From Dusk till Dawn franchise. The first one was more memorable and kinda scared me when I was a kid the first time I saw this. But definitely fell in love with Salma Hayek and her performance.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Well done, Niyat. You are on a roll this month.🔥👍🏼
The one thing I've always loved about this movie is Seth Geckos love for his brother Richie. No matter that Richie was a piece of crap. You're not going to mess with Seth's brother if you value breathing. And if you're tired of breathing he'll send you there. And you know what I'm talkin about.
Yes and he also saves the girl. The story of Seth is so tragic. He's a leader. An intelligent, brave, witty, talented, handsome man, who withstands the vampires, gets away, gets the girl and gets his cash. But he can't run from his life of crime and must travel to El Rey, the only place in the world that's more dangerous and terrifying than the Titty Twister. It's hard for me to see redemption for Seth despite his best efforts and that for me is the saddest part of the film. Every time he tries to run, he ends up somewhere worse.
I remember watching this at the kid thinking "Wow this is a pretty good kidnapping/robber film." and then BOOM! All of a sudden I'm watching an insane vampire flick. Tripped me the f**k out lol.
A year before my dad passed away, he wanted to take me (who was 10 at the time) to go watch this in the theater. We didn’t get a chance to see it there but did rent it and watched it and my 10 almost 11 year old brain almost exploded by how cool this movie was! It’s still one of my all time favorites and always reminds me of my dad! The dialogue is awesome, witty and sharp! I had no idea this had the extended history that you went into at the beginning of the video and that the vampires actually had a name, Culebra's. WOW! I've watched this movie over a hindered times and didn't know this! Thanks for the review! Great work Niyat!
Such an awesome vampire action horror western film!! Tarantino is a genius when it comes to dark violent action scenes! There was a TV series on the now defunct El Rey Network that ran from 2014-2016. This movie made George Clooney into a serious actor
This film really is what happens when you get two film bois together in one room. You get a fun cinematic ride that people will always remember. Sure, not a masterpiece but something worth watching.
Not a masterpiece ?? According to who ?? Name me another movie featuring tarantino and Rodriguez at their absolute best, pulling one of the biggest tone shift in cinematic history ? It's the kind of movie that should be studied in cinéma schools
@@slckb0y65 I'm in film school, and it's certainly not being studied here. And I totally love this movie, I own it on DVD. But there are few masterpieces IN cinema. Maybe it is to you, and if it is, don't worry about what one person on the internet thinks. I never get tired of it, but from a filmmaking perspective it is (as film comics explained said) a little messy and a bit campy. And I love the camp, but I don't let my personal taste get in the way of how the film could be improved.
@@MillennialMedia247 well it sure ain't citizen kane, but at the same time few would try to argue tarantino in his prime didn't revolutionized cinema with pulp fiction, i'm an absolute fan of old movies even from the black and white era, but at the same time i can also appreciate the progress made since then. i'm also all for experimentation in film making, like mixing genre that shouldn't work together, i might be a little bit more leniant thoward those as i'd rather watch somebody try something fresh and it be a bit sketchy than a perfect formulaic movie for the Nth time. funny enough those often end up as cult classic and fan's favorite, still being talked about and appreciated even more decades later.
Robert Rodriguez created the fuel of dark humor, vampire horror, and all this is served by the atmosphere of Tarantino's criminal action movies. Here vampires follow the same canons: they can be killed with holy water, garlic, stakes, sunlight. However, *"From Dusk Till Dawn"* there was a wide variety of vampires: standard ghouls, vampire bat hybrids, and very absurd creatures with a mouth and lots of sharp teeth in their stomachs, as well as monsters that turned into huge rats.
They scored the legendary special effects artist Tom Savini (who also plays sex machine) so you bet your bottom dollar those effects are going to be amazing!
This was the first film in which I ever rooted for the bad guy(rudementary i know) win. And thr draw back at the end of the film to see it was all attached to an ancient temple took me out! Great review!
This movie is one of my personal favorites. I'm surprised you didn't mention the amazing soundtrack, they have a real band in the movie, Tito & Tarantula, who sound fantastic.
The bait... the switch... and the boobies.... what mid-90s were all about but it honestly paid homage to 70s and 80s films for me like Caddyshack, Animal House , etc. which hit major points for me as a young teen. Selma Hayek also helped... A LOT AND don't forget the band who used a torso and leg as a guitar.
I do enjoy this films second half. I feel all the movies suffer from this two stories crammed into one. A kidnapping before a vamp slayer, a bank robbery before a vamp film, and finally an old western before a vamp slayer. Great breakdown as always never knew there was so much mythos in this. And if you ever have thr chance look at the deleted scenes from the vamp attack it really adds another level to the film and really makes the vamps that much more powerful the effects are pure cheese bit still cool non the less
3:43, DJ Cotrona of SHAZAM! played the role of Seth in the series and he did a hell of a good job while Robert Patrick played Jacob Fuller, and in one episode, he tells his kids how his wife died, and what led to him losing his faith in God.
I love showing this movie to people who have never seen it, the complete shift in tone always catches them off guard lol. Also I forgot how damn good George Clooney looks in this movie, might have to rewatch it just for that🔥
Considering I hadn't seen a single trailer before I went to see it on opening night Plus the fact my five friends and I were tripping on mushrooms Made for 1 hell of a ride
I feel you may have neglected the best performance in the movie. Tito & Tarantula may be the greatest vampire bar house band I've ever seen... I love schlock made by talented people. It gives me hope for the film industry.
Again great video this move is still my favorite introduced me to my first celebrity crush Salma Hayek haha 😄 but regardless this video was informative I didn't know there was a game
The only thing that bothered me about this movie is that they should have stayed in that narrow corridor (the one outside the room where they made their weapons) and fought the vampires from there, so they couldn't encircle them
how can anyone hate a movie where Tom Savini both does the special effects and plays a character called sex machine that has a gun strapped to his crotch. Even if you're not into the gore or the plot the movies got some great humor.
It's a very wired situation, there were some messed up criminals, a bar in Mexico then Salma Hayek happened and I don't remember what else happened after that. I'm assuming some vampire somethings I don't know. Tom Savini got to be in the movie instead of behind the scenes for once so that happened too.
Am I the only one to come up with a theory that Titty Twister is a Twilight zone? They actually get killed there, and appear in astral realm where they have to fight dark forces and face their sins. Frost faces his 'Nam PTSD and succumbs to it. Like lost souls. Seth appeared to be the most resilient soul, after which he goes to kind of hell with his pal from Mexico, where he continues his sinful lifestyle. Kate "survives" and her astral body moves on to reincarnate or go to other light realms. Jacob goes through purgatory because of his guilt and resentment because of wife's death...
*sigh* Juliette Lewis, omg! 😍 Oh uh yeah, awesome movie. The creature effects and madcap tone was a great mix. I felt the mariachi movie vibe. I never knew there was a TV series or that these were a reptilian species of vampire. Fascinating. A fine analysis as usual.
This movie is a gem, done by some of my favorite filmmakers. Ima cinema enthusiast and as a Mexican American I love the deep rooted culture and cult style it delivers. It owns a proud spot in my collection. I love your input, thank you for this! You’re badass 🤘
I remember watching this movie with my dad, uncle, and little brother when I was around 10ish.. I had no idea what it was, uncle put it in the vcr. I was kinda into it at first, but weirded out. Then oh my fucking god, it became one of my all time favorite movies. Still watch it at least once a year, plus any time I catch it on tv lol
The scene where Richie and Seth Geckko leave Earl’s World Of Liquor as it explodes turned out to be a fateful moment because it was raining in the area and the crew didn’t have enough film to shoot another day. When the rain ended, Robert Rodriguez and the crew went to work immediately. Salma Hayek’s Santanico Pandemonium dance with the Python was challenging because she had a fear of snakes. Before the shoot she told George Clooney not to stare at her breasts during the dance scene. George Clooney stared at Salma Hayek’s butt. Richard “Cheech” Marin played three roles in this film. The Border Patrol Officer, The Titty Twister’s perverted barker and the gangster Carlos. The double cylinder crotch revolver was first featured in the film Desperado. There is an outtake where the crotch revolver is revealed and a cylinder falls off. I had a lot of fun watching this movie and the other two sequels that followed. However, The best tie-in is From Dusk Till Dawn and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter. The second film From Dusk Till Dawn: Texas Blood Money was more or less a vampiric version of The Wild Bunch, but it was entertaining.
This was such an awesome, popcorn movie! My friend and I had no idea what it was since we didn't see any preview or anything. We just knew it was a Tatantino film. But wow!
This horror action flick tends to get hate but I don't understand why all the hate? It's a pure adrenaline ride and I still ❤ this film. This film along with Desperado(1995), is where I fell in love 😍 with Salma Hayek. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 I don't mind if Hollywood plans another sequel to this action horror franchise.
Funny story: I was 11 when this movie came out. (I'm a woman). Dad took me to see it, and he didn't know about the strippers in the bar. The scene where the dude says, "we have all kinds of pussy" Dad really cringed (It didn't bother me to be honest) After the movie was over, Dad says he didn't know about the dancing scenes. I asked him, "Daddy, what's pussy?" Dad explained it to me, lol. It's actually one of my favorite Tarantino films.
Weird pitch… let Quintin Tarantino write and or direct a Star Wars movie… he was already considering Star Trek, and he’s said he wouldn’t officially consider something like that his 10th film 🤷🏼♂️
I remember watching this movie as a kid and not having a clue that this movie was about vampires.. once she finished dancing/ended up tuning and biting ol boys brother I almost shitted myself.. didn’t watch this movie until I was maybe 17 🤣
This is 1 of the good vampire movies this and 30days of night somthin like that lol but those 2 movies r the best vampire movies..every quitin tarantino movie is awesome
First one was great, the second was okay after that it got well just down right terrible and stupid. Two made no sense with the Vampires who want money and rob banks.
Or dove love craft country I have been on the fence for watching due to some controversy but am curious nonetheless and you could be the tipping point for my curiosity
If I like a movie, I probably have it on DVD. I think only one thing you've covered in the past few weeks isn't in my collection (never seen Pumpkinhead)...really enjoying this content!
My favorite performance by Harvey Keitel by far. I hear he is fairly narcissistic when on set and to fans, that is the polar opposite of his character in this film.
I'd like to think that when people first saw this, they were like "wtf is this shit? I thought this was an action crime movie or something, not a horror."
The first time I saw this was with my friend and we were tripping balls! We had no idea what the movie was about and didn't see the vampire thing coming. Blew our socks off lol
