Slåttonn, or mowed, is the name of the period when the farmers mow the grass.
Traditionally, the grass was cut with scythes and dried on hoists, but today mechanical equipment is used, first a mower is used, then the grass is left to dry, turned for better drying, before being packed into round plastic bales and driven to storage for winter fodder.
The grass is usually either dried into hay, pressed into round bales, or placed in a silo.
Slåttonn is also referred to more specifically as high kiln, or silage. Usually the grass is mowed 3 times a year; the first time in early summer is called the first mowing
