Looking down on ruled over Catholics. The Vatican agreed to put you on a magnificent Rampart High Enough to denigrate and piss down the necks of Western kind and western civilization while you tell them it's raining.
I had a great history teacher. Mr Seeger. All my high school teachers were awesome. I feel so bad for the kids i talk to today. Shout out to Fruitport H.S. 1978-82. I wish i only knew how Blessed i was and showed them more appreciation by staying in touch.
A treat indeed, no one in my humble jumble of experience brings art & history closer to us than Waldemar does. A universal translator of time and space painting and forming expressions & observations with words so seamlessly woven into wonderous content. Connecting us with the past through the present & leaving us with anticipation even a yearning for more of this medium in the future. The whole Waldemar series is epic, a pearl, a precious treasure, a timely portfolio of shared knowledge that lets us drift into cultural curiosity for a couple of full hours. Instead of the usual 15 minute YT video packed with repetitious filler.
@@jpkatz1435 💯 % I can't remember the names right now, unfortunately. A girl with long blonde hair. Ohh of course beautiful and charming Mrs Bettany Hughes There are more, but this is what I can remember right now.
It is because of Waldemar that my understanding and live of art has grown so much. There is nothing that I can do to express my gratitude for this remarkable man.
Such a gift! I can’t get over the fact that I’m just finding this on RU-vid. Such a fantastic production. The effort that have gone into these documentaries is astounding. The visuals, the narrative, Waldemar… what a package of brilliance. THANK YOU!
@@celtoloco788 Some of do not have the BBC to show us these things. Rather we have to wander around on RU-vid etc to find programs of real quality that if it were not for the Internet we would never see.
Perspective is a great site. Here you can get a good education. Waldemar Januszczak is a fine narrator, and educator. Wow! I shall never forget Borromini, and Bernini. These are true angels of our cultural heritage.
I’ve watched this documentary so many times I can’t count. I’ve seen all his documentaries and this man has inspired me to explore so many different facets of art I absolutely love him for enlightening me❤
I know. I have been an armchair art historian for 40 years. No one engages the viewer and keeps it interesting the way Waldemar does. He tells the story in a way even those encountering art for the first time can appreciate. But he also provides enough information that even those of us who have read many books on art can still learn from them.
Ja indrukwekkend, alleen doe het kalmer aan ,zoveel kerken in zo’n korte tijd levert jou pijn in je zij op dus niet zo goed en ook niet voor mij ,ik adem mee als jij je zo druk maakt 🙀
So much valuable information, I’m watching it the fourth time to soak it all up.. Probably will be many more:)) Perspective is my sanctuary from the madness of the outside world. Thank you Waldemar!
I have to laugh, because its kind of my fourth too. (I think) I started watching the other night when I was having trouble sleeping. I'd watch some, drift off, wake up, rewind to where I thought I fell asleep and kept doing this all night. I figured i watched all of it three timea during that. Now I'm watching again, hopefully with more attention tonight because this doc, this subject, and presenter deserve it. Also, I want more info on the Cabal of Naples! Thise were some cut throat painters... literally.
I dont ever comment but i have to say that this man-single handedly, opened up a facet of life I knew existed but I did not know however, how incredibly deep they got on the history and information on each piece. I dont have to fact check my dude- I know his shit is on point. Waldemar thank you so much for opening up this world to me.
Wow that architect at the end of the show. He designed it, he saw the 1st stones being laid, and saw it complete. Awesome what an achievement. Really enjoyed the whole video. Thanks for the upload. Love me some Baroque, a top notch presenter and art coinsurer Waldemar :L)
It’s impossible not to love and respect a great teacher. The sort you pine to be a captive audience for, and also go to the pub with. The ones who somehow still remember you after many years, despite having launched so many students out into the world like thousands of bright spinning tops.
This was absolutely amazing, intriguing and informative!! The teacher/narrator is wonderful! I love his voice, accent and explanations of things. I'm not so interested in art per se but this held my interest the entire time and I couldn't look away! Bravo!!! Will actually watch again! TY!
Hello from Uruguay, I have been watching videos from this channel since last year and they are amazing. I love Waldemar's way of explaining art. Anyone else from Uruguay who has been watching them?
Caravaggio's art is magical. I love the fact that he inserts his own face in so many of his great paintings. The boy and lizard, the boy playing the lute. etc etc. He had a beautiful face, and was undoubtedly proud of his looks.
the thing in spending time with you is that while u take us to all sorts of incredible places where extraordinary happened, we still get addicted to you, perfect voice and the manner of presentation expands from being funny to all kind of directorial tips close to art.
My grandfather was a historian so I grew up listening to stories about Admiral Nelson and seeing the paintings of the age of sail. I play Civilization 5 because I love history. I've just been getting into art in history and it is gorgeous seeing the architecture and hearing the dramatic, epic masterpieces that give color to documentaries such as these. As a child there were a few things my grandparents showed me that were of interest. Now at 35 I really do appreciate seeing those things that I considered boring. It's just exquisite seeing for myself why certain things are so treasured.
Every time an artist or an artwork is mentioned and I have to pause and look it up on Wikipedia, I can’t help but to mentally read the page with Waldemars voice!
This video, and all your videos are very well down Waldemar I have loved art since I was very young and now in my 70 years you have taught me so much and I sure do thank you I love your videos you’ve got me riveted.
I love the way Waldemar masterfully emulates the religious hierarchy, dancing between sarcasm and sincerity. Sarcasm > The religious controllers have absolutely no idea what happens after death but sincerely> allow the follower to believe that they do know. It's a larf innit?
cant believe they dedicated just under a minute talking about baroque art in Latin America. Peru was barely mentioned, but Baroque art was incredible important in Brazil as well!!
Fantastic video!!!! (Note: If I understand it correctly, Jewish lineage is matriarchal - not patriarchal. Therefore, even if his father was a converso, he was not ‘ethnically Jewish’. )
Hey there Waldemar, been watching your wonderful and important explorations throughout art and it just came to mind, correct me if I’m wrong, that you’ve yet to explore Mexico with all its colourful history, would love to see you engage in the murals of Diego Rivera, his wife Frieda amongst others!
Waldemar has done this, in the American artists series. He goes down to Mexico and explores Diego Rivera's deep influence on contemporary American art, especially that of Philip Guston. Then he goes up to Detroit to deftly analyze and comment upon Rivera's greatest U.S. mural at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
At 20:42. I hope to return to Rome one day. Waldemar's incredibly infectious love of Francesco Borromini now makes me want to explore these delightful little chapels and whatever else Borromini built in Rome. I hope to do so within the next few years! ;)
If I won the lotto tomorrow, I would pay my first million dollars just to travel around Europe with Waldemar. Just having him show me art and explain it to me ...and drinking beer. Elon has $250 billion but...has never considered that . This is a bad time line. The worst time line.
LoL the worst really? I'm sure the people from the years of the plague when almost half the population died, dead bodies laying everywhere and fear permeating society would disagree. When there was no electricity or medicine yet invented. Surely you could have thought that through a bit more before writing/saying it.
This is such great stuff! The Brit accent and vocabulary makes it so entertaining! Well done Waldemar! I am watching all documentaries and learn so much in addition to my architecture history class!
Interesting AND fascinating ! When Waldemar pointed out the meaning of Baroque and held up two pearls to give examples, it hit me as ironic. When i think of the Baroque verses the Rococo in styled form, i would think the round pearl as Baroque since it has symmetry, in comparison to the Rococo peal would be the misshapen form or having asymmetry.
l do not mean to sound negative but not all the people in St Peter's Square are Catholics and St Peter's is not a cathedral. Many non-Catholics visit the Vatican and St Peter's basilica when in Rome. The literal seat of the bishop of Rome sits in another church in Rome. That church is the cathedral. (I think it is St John Lateran) Some people who are not familiar with the original meaning of the word cathedral often call any large, important-looking church a cathedral and that is not what a cathedral is. It is literally the seat of a bishop. A special chair is set aside for the bishop to use at Mass. The Latin word for this chair is something like cathedra. We still have the expression in English, namely, the seat of government. This refers to the place where the head of the government, the legislators, and the high judges sit to do their work.
