Dorian Yates is a one off, the first mass monster with great conditioning. never had a coach, a nutritionist he simply did it all himself and read many many books. a bodybuilder who came from nothing and wins 6 Mr Olympia's and many other comps, for me what makes this a whole lot sweeter is the fact he's an English man like me born and bred in the UK and he went on to achieve GREATNESS. we have to thank Dorian's training partner Leroy Davis as he was one hell of a training partner who pushed Dorian to the max, Dorian could not of had a better training partner 100%..

Your right about that, bodybuilding peaked in the 90's. Dorian ruled the stage from 92-97, he set a standard of size and conditioning that the world had never seen.

All the guys from that time period were simply awesome, the conditioning, the definition, the dryness, the graininess is missing from today's competitions. One thing that always suffers is their midsections as the pack on more size but that is the nature of game, you have to lift more and build more so mid section grow accordingly to support it all

Dorian had one of the best structures ever in bodybuilding. The only weak point was some of his muscle insertions. During his first show he was being hailed as the next British Champ, that's how good his base package was.

He worked that hard in the gym he tore his muscles in a couple a places but didn't give up that's what I call never giving up as his last one basically tore his bicep in half OUCH

As big as many of them were, and very commendable, Franco said, when you do the lat spread, you should see very little space if any within the arm and the back. Very few managed to do that.

I know this is a Dorian video but how good does Ray look at 3:19 in that relaxed pose. 94 was his best shape. And personally I think he should've won that year even though Dorian dwarfed him.

If there hadn't been a Yates there never would of been a Colman. That's why besides the bicep injury why he retired. He knew. And Coleman had to know the same coming in. And the training WAY AND aspect is why Colman can barely move. ALL RESPECT TO HIM!

He does get the credit mate. Anyone who knows about bodybuilding knows that Yates demonstrated the greatest physique ever to grace an Olympia stage. Folk say Ronnie was. He wasn't fact. He was a distant 2nd. Even Ronnie knows that hence why you never hear him tak about Yates. Yates was astonishing. Its just a shame the youngsters nowadays will never see a guy like Yates in the flesh. I'm old enough and had the pleasure of seeing him live.. All I can say is wow.

@@patryan6072 unfortunately the new lads are probably Internet bodybuilding fans. Photos don't convey the actual size and conditioning of these guys more prevalent with Yates as the cameras used in his day were poor. He had to be seen in the flesh but even in the photos he is better than any version of Coleman. I don't even think Coleman was Yates closest rival. I'd put Sean Ray, Jean Pierre Fux, Flex Wheeler and possibly Markus Ruhl ahead of Coleman. As soon as Yates retired the standard of physique whilst getting bigger did not get better. This allowed Coleman to come in stupid big and still win. He wouldn't come in that big against Yates because he knows he would lose.

@@stevenmccusker2563 What?? How about Kevin Levrone in '94' & Nasser in '96 & 97'. Dorian's era was definitely the best.Their are other bodybuilders that we haven't mentioned like Chris Cormier, Mike Francois, Andreas Munzer and Paul Dillet, etc that were great bodybuilders. People often overlook Samir Bannout from 1983 who was basically a smaller version of Dorian but he beat Haney for the Mr Olympia title in 1983. He had great conditioning, muscle proportion, seperation and aesthetics.
