In the film, at one minute thirty seconds, it shows MAN UTD fans outside Ninian park Cardiff. You can see a sign, BLUEBIRDS shop. As a Cardiff fan i was there in 1974. I went to man city around 1982 in the fa cup. The only trouble i remember was the football special being smashed up before it even left the station in Manchester.

I'm a United fan but from Manchester so you hear and share a lot of the stories. Don't remember the year, but presume it was one of the 70's games, Leeds fans 'famously' attacked a man and his daughter after the game. Was all over the MEN and the bitterness for City v Leeds lasted a very long time. I also seem to remember an incident against Huddersfield at Maine Road, (might have been the 10-1?) when Town fans returned to their minibus after the game and every window had been smashed and all the tyres slashed. Also, met a guy in Spain a few years ago who knew all the 'names' and was a white fella from Rusholme I think. He said he ran with the Guvnors back in the day and being white was called 'Caspar' - after the white ghost kids programme at the time. Don't know if that was a wind up or not - anyone ever heard of him?
@barryh.4220
@barryh.4220 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, the guy was probably in his 30s/40s, and was with his young son , and whilst the cops held thousands of City fans back after the game, these two seemed to walk straight out of the ground, presumably from the City seating section, and were set upon .... but that's Leeds shithouses for you! It probably put him off attending matches football for good .... and traumatised his kid. As you rightly say, it was printed in the MEN with a photo of the guy in a 'bad way' in hospital.

Yeah they were in the seats and we were held back in the low field road getting bricked and bottled over the wall …. There was a lad called Caspar in my distant memory but I mainly remember Daffy from Rusholme boozed in the Clarence’s vault … game as fuck

Utter drivel. The Birmingham game was in 73-74,(not 72) and the narrator's confusing the two Leeds FA Cup ties. 76-77 City fans tried to take the home end. 77-78 Leeds fans went for revenge after some incidents at the Maine Road meeting a few months earlier. I attended both Millwall games in 87-88 and it was nothing like described. Quite the opposite, because after rioting at Luton in 85, the game against City in Dec 87 was Millwall's first real powderkeg fixture. By common consent City were ready for anything that came their way and gave as good as they got. As for the home game, the narrator is confusing the Maine Road riot in 98-99 which was more random vandalism against Manchester property than seriousfighting.
@woutbonner
@woutbonner 9 месяцев назад
True - City gave millwall a pasting at London Bridge station and the dibble refused to get involved as they were too busy gathering info for the Omega case. I thought the 98/99 riot came about due to City's frustration at not being able to get at their rentamob (it was loads of different club's firms because, despite lying to the contrary about 'sleepers' and such what, millwall simply don't have the numbers)... I know a few Blues who arrived home that night carrying a lot of Asian gold nicked from jewellers on Wilmslow Rd - typically the big mouthed southern liars tried to claim that they'd smashed up Manchester later on, but it was actually City causing mayhem and taking the opportunity to make a few quid.

Yep, i was at that game and you could see the 'commotion' at the bottom corner of the Leeds Gelderd end, where some City fans had entered ..... a similar thing happened at Villa Park one season, when a mob of City fans had a go at the Holte end there.

I was there throughout all those years, and there are quite a few discrepancies in that video ..... City did gear up and take a firm to Millwalls old Den , and there were reports that they had attacked Millwall fans near London Bridge ... but, personally, i never really had any trouble watching City at the Old Den, although at one game a City coach was apparently bricked on the way to the ground. That troublesome match at Leeds was horrendous after the game, but it was by no means one sided, City stood firm and gave as good as they got, and that was probably the biggest away following ever to grace Elland Road. Newcastle (away) was really bad in the FA cup one year, probably 80s, lot of fighting in the Gallowgate ..... Everton (away) after an FA Cup 2-2 drawn game was another bad one ..... Forest (away) was also a bad one, in the early 70s in a sunday FA Cup match which we lost 4-1 .... Leeds (away) the league game in 1975 was another bad one, fighting all the way back to the station and bricks thrown ...... but times were very different back then, especially in the 70s, and you really don't see much trouble nowadays.

That Leeds game was probably the FA Cup game in January 1977, I was there in that Lowfield road stand, there were around 16-000 City fans there that day, in the south stand and all the way along that lowfield road terracing up to halfway, that south stand was terracing in the lower section and was jam packed with City, the upper section was seating and full of Leeds. The Leeds fans were leaning over and fighting the City fans at the top of the terracing, it was going off everywhere. In 50 years of attending home and away at MCFC, that game at elland road was the largest away following outside of cup finals and semi finals. In 1976-77 we beat Leeds home and away in the league, then lost that FA Cup game to a late Trevor Cherry goal, the following season 1977-78 we lost both league games, then beat them in the FA Cup, footballs a strange game. Great memories.
