The friendship and mentorship with Kim is so sweet. You can really see the genuine support from Manny to Kim. Also Profar has been very supportive of Kim too. Manny is the Captain and need a C on his jersey. He'd be the first Captain of the Padres since Gary Templeton.
Honestly I feel Fernando practically not being in the clubhouse most of the time this year helped machado a lot. Cuz machado was almost actually the only star on the team and really had his chance to lead them and be their number one guy
all padres fans know he has been doing that since he got here. yeah tatis has put up better numbers in the span they shared the field but manny is a vet. he is well respected way more and has the most powerful voice in that dugout since he arrived.
I get the feeling that Manny works better as the clear leader, as opposed to having multiple in the clubhouse. Can’t have too many cooks in the kitchen
@@michaelb3581 exactly what I’m saying bro. Especially when the other guy is the face of the league😅 and tatis also outperformed manny by a lot last year as well.
Maybe. But there's no way Nando would have ever stepped up as a leader. He's years away from that responsibility. If he doesn't learn from this incident he never will. Especially since the whole clubhouse unanimously and publicly have shown their disappointment with him.
I agree I think if tatis was still there there would have been jealously but since the spotlight was on just him, it worked out for him to become a veteran leader.
That incident with Tatis in the dugout is what me change my mind on Manny. I knew he had finally finished growing up. He was always a super talented guy but easy to dislike
As an orioles fan I knew he was going to leave one day because he was really loved here despite the shenanigans. It sucked to see him become such a villain but the redemption he had makes it all that much sweeter. I’m really proud of him and despite not winning here, I really hope he wins mvp this season. He deserves it
We could never pay him the money he was due. That's baseball. Lower payroll teams have to be creative to win. It's the burden of being a fan of a smaller market.
Look at what he did this year. When the team found out about Tatis suspension, they didn’t miss a beat, and made it all the way to the NLCS, taking down the Mets and The Dodgers in two of the best postseason series ever played. I like to think Manny had a hand in that
Being a life long Padres fan We needed a leader to turn the identity of the padres into something, and Manny was the perfect fit. Him Mentoring Tatis and hopefully helping Tatis when he comes back next season will be interesting, because Tatis will now be the villain in peoples eyes, because of his immaturity. If Manny Can lead, and Tatis matures mentally, Soto continues to grow and be the Soto we all know, and Kim follows Mannys mentor ship this Team will be amazing!
Giants fan living in San Diego really opened my eyes on this Padres team. Really liking what they will be like going forward. I count on them to take the Dodgers down again next season.
I think he was the villain last year. But honestly, I think fans have already gotten over that and forgiven him... tatis received the biggest ovation by far at fan fest.
It's crazy that Machado turned from a supervillain to a heroic leader, and at the same time Fernando Tatis turned from a leader to a supervillain. As a padres fan I trust that Tatis will also have a redemption story and he will become a leader in the Padres with Machado and Juan Soto.
I think the supervillain status was always unfair. People who want to act like he committed murder against Pedroia for doing something that was just simply a part of the game until very recently were always overreacting and looking for other reasons to justify their dislike of him. It just so happened that he was young and a hot head. But if you paid attention you would know he was always going to end up this guy
Been a Pads fan since I could walk basically. The team over the last 15 or so years has had little to no identity. Manny brings the swag, the fun, and most importantly, the leadership. I disliked him a bit in Baltimore and was disappointed with stuff he did and said as a Dodger. But I'll be damned if I don't say he is my favorite player now. Dude goes and competes EVERY DAY. Incredible defense that he is overlooked for. Gold Glove snub anyone? Hits tanks and gets on base. He wants to win and that is so important for a ballclub. Hoping the boys piece it all together soon cause this dude deserves a ring after how much I've seen out of him in the past few years. Great breakdown! Cheers!
Manny was also one of several Padres players (including Tatis if I’m remembering right) who stayed to help escort fans from the stands through the dugouts helping to evacuate DC stadium in July 2021 when there was a shooting outside the stadium. He easily could’ve ran for cover, worrying only about himself, but instead he helped perfect strangers get to safety. That says all you need to know about the man.
When he yelled at Tatis it made me realize he is becoming a good leader. I think that fight with Tatis was something good. I dont think Machado wanted Tatis to go down the same road as him, so as a result he was checking him. Say what you want but Machado is not the same guy I used to hate before.
I wasn't sure of the Manny signing (as a Padres fan) but we were back east and the Padres were playing the Nationals, so we decided to go to the game and root for our team (Side Note: Nationals fans are terrific). The Baltimore fans that showed up to that game with Machado jerseys on was ridiculous. It was then that I knew we had someone who would soon be beloved by the city. Even with his opt out coming up, he ain't going anywhere. This is Manny's team. There isn't a decision made by the front office that doesn't go by Manny first. Seidler loves him. Fans adore him. I haven't seen this sort of admiration since Gwynn from Padre fans. The Padres are his team, and San Diego is his city.
Honestly besides the “that’s a clown question” moment I never understood the hate Bryce got. Like I know some of my Angels fans would get mad with him getting compared to Trout but I always liked Bryce.
@@fuccckckkkkckkck Bryce was always so quick to anger as a National. He was like Machado in the fact that everything always angered him, he just wasn't dirty
@@fuccckckkkkckkck why does “that’s a clown question” deserve hate? The reporter asked an idiotic and inappropriate question to Harper, and he responded with class and dignity.
One key thing here...Hardy was in the midst of a career resurgence when Machado came up. His 2011 30 homerun season was a surprise to the Orioles and they rewarded him with a 3 year contract. The "twilight" of Hardy's career came after his next 3 year deal in 2015. He was a bonafide star for the Orioles from 2011-2014. The decline of both Hardy and Davis at the same time (among other issues) is what led the Orioles into a rebuilding period.
I think its easy to become full of yourself after having a good amount of success, especially at a young age against such skilled competition. I'm 19 and immature, so I can't blame him lmao
Watching this after we just re-signed Manny today. The guy has been tremendous for us in SD. I understand the external perception of him...but if you watch him play every day and you see how he leads the team, it's impossible not to respect, if not love the dude as a player. Yes, he sometimes doesn't hustle down the line out of frustration. But he always plays hurt. And when he slumps at the plate he still plays sublime defense. Had if not been for a severe ankle sprain, he would have likely walked away with the NL MVP in '22. I'm biased, but I believe he was a helluva lot more valuable to the Padres than Goldy was to STL...and that's not taking anything away from Goldy's season.
Dude ended my favorite players career on purpose. Dude is a piece of trash idc care how he "changed himself" hes manny machado at the end of the day. Glad yall enjoy him i guess... For me there will never be a baseball player i can possibly hate more than him. And trevor bauer and bregman exist.
You mentioning Ventura being a starter meaning he only really loses out on one game with an 8 game suspension vs Manny who loses out on 4 games makes me wonder if the ways to suspend starters should be slightly longer just to even things out. I mean i suppose a 20 game suspension sounds like a lot but it’s only actually “4 games” for them. Idk if that’s fair or not, just had me thinking for a minute.
@UCBBxSBNpA6FP_UWH5GXeyvA Oh I didn’t realize I was talking to an 11 year old until I saw all the emojis. It’s ok when you grow up you’ll learn all about baseball.
Introspection is something these teams can’t buy. But the padres did. As a Rangers fan I hope they stick w him because if they can figure it out this team might be a passing of the torch.
I feel like it needs to be mentioned in the context of him not running out every ground ball that he suffered awful season ending injuries from mis-stepping on first running out grounders.
@@Alan-rw3ez this is the internet it’s a joke. I know he a good player but I’m a lifelong mariner fan who checked out for some years so I’m not super familiar w the mlb until recently. I do know he had an amazing at bat against the mariners castillo tho 😎😂
Players are getting pay so high is crazy man, I remember back than you had to earn it. I really like pardes, dude is a beast but very over pay. 3:48 I don't know how they even compared him to arod, arod was leagues ahead but not in fielding though.
No, Pedroia choosing to play 105 games that season after the injury, on a knee that had surgery the previous off-season, is what made an otherwise minor injury into a career ender.
Manny lost all respect from me with that nonsense against the A's. 1st off, he wasnt tagged that hard at all, then he overswings, giving the opposing catcher a concussion, then throws a bat at 3rd base, which Donaldson wasn't even playing that day. He completely deserves the reputation he had.
