From Monster High to Mirabel / Making ENCANTO Doll / Custom Doll Repaint by Poppen Atelier

After making Isabela doll a couple of weeks ago, I've decided to make also Mirabel from the new Encanto movie by Disney. So today I will take a new Monster High doll and I will turn her into Mirabel!

When you listed the characters you were planning to make I was hoping you’d say Luisa. She’s not a typically female character and I think it’d really fun and challenging for you to make someone so strong and muscly while keeping her feminine.

@@PoppenAtelier maybe you could use one of the first DC superhero girls dolls They are a little bigger and more muscular than an average doll, and they still look really feminine. Please do Luisa, She's My favorite from the movie.

@@PoppenAtelier I see 2 doll sets (from Puerto Rico) that include Luisa one from Disney store (the one I have) dolls have 11 points of articulation and animals and accessories, and the Walmart set that have 5 points of articulation and looks like just the 4 dolls. but to just use one doll 80 us dollars or 100$ is too much plus shipping. If I didn't love Luisa so much I would send her to you to fix her and make her beautiful.

The reason Mirabel is frequently shown with an accordion in marketing is because when the movie was still in the concept phase, Mirabel was going to carry an accordion around everywhere. It was her prized possession. You can see her holding it in a lot of concept art. Eventually it was scrapped, but they kept it in merchandise because, hey, more merchandise!

My dear cousin was made to have accordion lessons because the school owned one and it was free! It is hard work, especially for children, but it remains her favorite form of self expression to this day 70 years later. I just thought in the packaging it represented all the traditions and lessons children are given, when often their true interests lie elsewhere.

Of course, giant companies like Disney will take any excuse to sell more merch, but Mirabel’s accordion could have just been scrapped late in the game after merch had started going into production. It happens sometimes

that’s not the reason sweetie, do your research the acordeon is due to the fact that encanto takes place in colombia and the acordeon is a signature element in colombian music.

Another perfect match on poppins part and this one took an incredible amount of skill on her mom's part, but the original design is much too small to get an accurate match using embroidery. while it's beautiful, it doesn't look like the real skirt. I got SpongeBob cartoonish vibes when first seeing it. Obviously, she's a cartoon, but a more realistic one.. It would've looked better painted. Again, I'm with you, extremely impressed with her talent, but this skirt didn't match. Don't come at me, I can have an opinion.

Mirabel has an accordion for the first song of the movie, and we see it in a couple of other scenes. She plays the accordion, it's just not one of her most obvious or noted traits!

I read an article which had concept art for the film and it said in there that there was originally a plan for mirabel to play the accordion and for it to be her thing but the idea was later scrapped due to creative changes. I guess the dolls were already made and in their boxes ready to go and it was too late to change it 🤷 Really beautiful doll 💙

I was so hoping you'd make Luisa. She's my favorite character because she's so kind to everyone and works herself almost to death to help everyone. I know she's not a typical woman, but she has beautiful skin and lovely eyes. Larger women need love too.

As always your face up is is amazing and your mom continues to raise the bar with her work. She is a lovely doll with wonderful accessories that make the character come to life. Please give Luisa some love. First off the 3 sisters should be together. Secondly Luisa is such a novel character. She is big and strong yet still feminine and graceful. She shoulders so much responsibility without complaining. She deserves your touch as much as Isabella and Mirabel.

There have been times I have marveled at your mom’s work. I haven’t seen the movie so the symbols on this costume don’t mean anything to me, so thank you for pointing it out. It’s amazing the detail your mom can get on the scale she’s working on. Really, so impressive. Also, love the glasses out of paper clips and accordion out of graph paper! One of the first handicrafts I got deep into as a kid was embroidery because it was inexpensive on my limited weekly allowance. I embroidered the bottom of my jeans while in High School and even turned in an embroidered page in my unicorn 'book' I had to make for a design project in college, (along with a lot of other unicorn pages in many different mediums). Your mother's work makes my heart sing with all the details! Awesome mom! The whole doll was incredible! Those glasses were so creative to build! You did a fantastic job, dear artist!
