⚙️ SHOW NOTES - EPISODE #124: Would you believe a simple tapered leg can be transformed to a masterpiece level with a few basic techniques? In this episode Tom shows you his methods for making designer legs. And the great part is, by using veneer, the creative options are wide open for a fraction of the price of solid materials. For his example he uses some striped Zebrawood with an Ebony cuffed foot. (Closed Captioned)

Thanks Richard, I’m so glad you’re enjoying them! I know Normandy is a beautiful place, so imprinted in my mind from the D-day films. I would love to get to see France some time! Thanks for watching! 👍😎

Excellent presentation. The veneer saw has no set, I did not realize it would cut along the edge so cleanly. I was in anticipation of the wiping of the leg to see the grain “pop”. You are not afraid of using a wet rag - water! I tend to use a rag dampened with mineral spirit, but if all that does is raise any grain even slightly, a fast bit of sanding does the trick.

Thanks Ed, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I am not worried about a little dampening of the veneered surface, it’s not enough water to cause the veneer glue bond to fail…it takes a lot of water and heat to do that. I still had to sand the surface as well so just easier to get water to show better how the finished leg will appear. After sanding I do more commonly use denatured alcohol to do the same. Thanks for watching! 👍😎

A veneer is any material of 1/4" or less in thickness.
@EpicWoodworking
@EpicWoodworking 2 года назад
Hmmm, I never realized there was an official thickness where less than was considered veneer. I’ve used 1/4” thick solid wood drawer bottoms in the past and didn’t consider them veneer. Is this an official definition you know of from somewhere? I was thinking something less than half that thickness might be the “veneer” cut off point. Thanks for watching!!👍😎

@@EpicWoodworking Yes, I believe it is an official definition. I should have mentioned that it is considered veneer when attached to another substrate. This goes for wood, stone, or any other covering material. Love your videos.

Love your videos, but being picky maybe you need a camera with a higher definition?
@EpicWoodworking
@EpicWoodworking 2 года назад
Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure why it’s not looking clearer for you, we do shoot with a high def camera. I’ll look into it on our end, perhaps the lens is smudged. Thanks for watching! 👍😎
