In July 1959, labor leader Jimmy Hoffa, then President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, joined "Face the Nation" to discuss his opposition to the proposed labor bill in Congress.

An absolutely fearless man. A man with the gift of reason. A man who knew what workers needed and how managers thought. A man who, though not well-educated, could figure things out and figure out what needed to be done next. I always wanted to be a Teamster.

@@maxfieldstanton4541Not that easy. Billionaires and mega corporations control much of what goes on in the United States. They also didn’t control over 90 percent of the media back in 1959.

The contributions Hoffa made are open to debate. But there’s no doubt he made a lasting impact on how unions work in the USA.

Despite dropping out in the 9th grade, Jimmy Hoffa had more tact, critical thinking, brains, willpower and ability than most people today with PhDs. Today’s discussions and hearings feel like clown shows that are parodies. This old black and white broadcast feels like you’re hearing a real debate between real men, who looked like actual men and were determined enough to tackle difficult issues.

I can see how this guy is a great leader, along with having some balls. What im not sure on is if he's someone we should really look up to. I've personally experienced my employment becoming unionized to a pre-existing union. Super shady those guys were; felt like a big circlejerk as well. All kinds of high talk and dramatic speeches. At one point the guy from the union i just meet calls me "brother"
