It is true that most people didn't like the Turbines back then, but 30 years later, things have changed... everybody now seems to be looking for them. Even LMR now sells reproduction wheels with centercaps, due to demand. I find they look great... when they're nice and clean! P.S. : The rare Scarlet Red interior also became popular after being much hated when it came out!
Agree with everything except the sn cobra wheels, I do not care for the 94/95 but the 96 and up with the black backing looked awesome. Not so much on a fox, but dang good an an SN car.
I have the number 1 pick on my black 89 vert. I’m not crazy about them. Still 4 lug so it is what is. Lowering it made them look better but ehhhh I’d like something like chrome just not sure what.
Brother, you and I agreed on 90% of your list. The Cobra R is where we disagree. Definitely a love it or hate it wheel. I battled between the 03 Cobra, Cobra R and the Pony's. Went with the Cobra R but wish I would've went with the 03 Cobras.
Hate to say it, but the turbines have really grown on me. Nothing screams 80s just like them. Hell if I'm being honest, my love for them almost come from the Delorean wheels.
18" 95 cobra R wheels hands down. I think the 5 spoke cobra wheels whether there the earlier cobra R or later 03/04 versions there the ones. As far as just regular old factory wheels the 16" soft 5 spoke that came on my 95 gt are not bad looking wheel way better than like the 3 spoke only thing is there Loki 7 or 7.5" wide and that sucks, if you widened them to 10" they would be pretty cool buts thats expensive but it would be a head scratcher seeing some 315/40s on those soft 5 spokes. if you could add some dish that would be really cool but thats not an option.
I like the 10 hole way more than the pony wheels I normally like 5 spoke wheels but there something about the pony wheels I hate I think it’s how bulky the spokes are on the pony wheels and chrome pony so ugly
I agree, wheels certainly make a car and I think OEM style look best on my car. I almost went from the 10 holes on my 87 LX to turbines, just for something different in the 90's. But I ended up going to 96 split 5 spokes in 2000 with my 5 lug conversion that I got for $160. Then a few years later I got a deal on a set of Bullitt wheels and those are what I'm still running. Congrats on the weight loss! I've put on 25+ lbs over the past few years that I want to work off, but it is hard to do. Hopefully I can work on it and also get my 87 back on the road this year!
Nothing better than a factory 16 inch silver pony wheel. They look good on a GT or LX. Not all wheels look good on both, like 10 holes look horrible on a GT but on a LX they fit perfectly.
Love the video and the list…. But BBS RK are too common nowadays. I owned a set on a coupe 14 years ago when no one knew about them. Now….. meh. Think 3 piece now 😈
@@417fox 🤔…. I see a set for sale right now. Don’t want to make the location public and have someone sneak in and steal them out from under you. Is there a way to contact you directly?
First off…. Congrats on the the weight loss so far 👍 I agree with you on the 93 Cobra wheels. One of my favorite factory wheels. I’ve seen the replicas on 87-88 Tbirds and they look like they should have come stock on them also. Again I like the 10 hole wheels but only on 85-86 models. Wheels truly make a vehicle. I had a plain Ranger in high school. I added chrome wheels and window tint and it changed the entire look of it 😎
Since the non inch size factory TRX wheels are limited to reproduction expensive Michelin tires, they are the worst. I absolutely hated them when I had my 5.0 4 speed Pace Car 1987 to 1990.
Back in July 1985 I bought my first next to new car. It was a year old 1984 Mustang GT. It came with the Michelin TRX 390mm wheels. I liked the look of them but I ended up hating them when it came time to replace them. By the time I sold the car in 1990 you could not get them anymore. I bought my current 92 Fox Body Coupe in the spring of 94. It had the 16" Ponies, you're right that was the wheel everyone loved.
True. I looked for alternatives and have had FR500 reps on a different new edge but I think they are too overplayed for what I want. Ended up staying with stock cause the OE aluminum wheels are way harder to find and do still look very cool.
Man there are 3 versions of the Saleen wheel i love! I think that was only at Ford Dealers who also were Saleen dealers. I am gonna work the Saleens in the next vid!
Congrats on your weight loss! I have original Mach 1 wheels on my fox. Did the 5 lug conversion back around 05 or 06 and put them on. I still love them.
My least favorite are the SVO wheels, but that’s what I have on my car. I’m searching for the perfect wheel combination for my car. I’m leaning towards the Cobra R’s, but I like the Saleen wheels pretty good. Thanks for the info, and your opinion.
Good stuff and congrats on another 5lbs down. I was right with you on your wheel choices until the end with the Cobra R’s but actually a true Cobra R is an awesome wheel the knock offs and the four lug versions sadly ruined it for a lot of people, a four lug Cobra R looking wheel is just wrong 😑
I agree and disagree. I think the TRX were sharp wheels. Plus at roughly 15.5”, bigger than anything else at the time. The only drawback was the tire selection, but now replicas are available in 16”. I love how they look on early GTs and Cobras. I agree with the 10 holes. Boring, but they look right on 85-86 GTs. Disagree on turbines. They have a nice muscle car look…especially with rwl tires. Disagree on ponys. They look nice, but are waaay more played out than cobra Rs. Agree on the sn95 cobra wheels. Very sharp. Disagree on 93 Cobra wheels. I think they only look good on that car. Otherwise mediocre.
I agree 100% with your #1 best looking wheel! I’ve got them on my 93 GT Vert and they’re gorgeous and also set my car apart from others. I’ve still got my ‘like new’ Ponies too. Been looking for a set of nice Turbines, just because, and it’s impossible to find a nice set to complete the trivecta of wheels. Keep up the great videos!
Great video. I remember back in the day a lot of people put the knock off 4 lug cobra r wheels on the fox body and they just do not look right in a four lug configuration. However if you had converted your fox to five lug and put genuine cobra rs on your ride I thought they looked really good
Assumptions. Just don’t like the look. Didn’t say they didn’t have a place for functionality. Too many guys back in the day we’re running them thinking they looked cool and never lined their car up once. Oh and I did plenty of street and strip racing back in the day bud 👌🏼
