I personally reccomend making the super structure and decorations out of light weight alloy it's not too expensive looks about the same and way lighter then metal so its very hard to add too much weight with it
Some tips: The enemies you spawn face the camera. Try using the spawn distance option instead of moving the camera to where you want to spawn enemies. There's an option to stop the "tactical view" from throwing the camera into space. Options -> view & control -> top down view (turn off) F11 pauses the game, if you want to get the camera in position or watch a ships damage without it moving around. Holding Q gives you some options. Like instant repair in the designer so you can test with full health armour. Missiles, lasers and EMP are very strong weapons balanced by having strong countermeasures. If your ship lacks proper defenses and you face any of these weapons you're going to have a bad time.
@@85isaboat53Well, there are blocks that absorb EMP damage and, of course, RUBBER. LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF RUBBER (lowers your radar/sonar visibility too if on the outside, just in case you want to build sth stelfy🤣
A tip with FtD! You want to use as many 4-Beams as possible; it makes the ships that much sturdier. And kinda cuts down on lag a bit due to not as many blocks needed for the same distance.
Thank you so much for the epilepsy warning I absolutely love the time-lapse style you have Sucks that it seems this series is a little too fast for me But I do quite enjoy the talking inbetween So absolutely keep it up!
Yeah, it's difficult because the game doesn't have an option to create replays from third person. The only option would be to create in multiplayer and have a second player record, but that's not practical in my case. And then on the other hand, having the time-lapses last too long would mean an already lengthy video would drag on for too long. So I had to settle on a compromise, although I definitely would like to find a different option.
@@PatchBits God That absolutely sucks Hopefully there's a better way to do it Maybe by doing slower time lapses, you be walking a tight rope of it getting to long That could be a lot of down time as you said But longer talking segments And if it just isn't worth the epilepsy risk You can just use jump cuts to piece together something (I've seen it done before by Lathrix/Lathland) Don't know how much work that would be, it seems to be editing intensive to me I know one youtuber who was able to make time lapses in Space Engineers using a second rig (there old one from before they got an upgrade) (the youtuber MadMavn) But we are all not as blessed (looks at my PC with a 660 ti Boost and weeps) Well, if you keep them or not I'll keep watching
@@PatchBits you could do a timer that each 5 minutes or so you step back or go to a camera veiw, and take a picture from there. It would also help if you were having trouble with a certian segment to let you to focus on a different one and not overwork any part of it. Idk how long it takes to build a ship in from the depths though
@@jidk6565 To enable for timelapse access you could try slowing the entire video down and using captions? It wouldn't be perfect but it is better than not being able to see it
You made a pretty damned good ship there pardner! Also, you need not worry much about DWG craft. The majority that you face will be practically incapable of getting their shells past 2 metal blocks worth of armor.
Oh hell yeah from the depths content creator that's interested in ww2 gunboats. Please continue making content. The from the depths community is lacking in ww2 era ships content other than just replica building for show. I would watch the shit out of a series where you first build a up a fleet of ships in like 30-50min videos, then play a campaign with em. Have like seasons where S1 is the royal navy ships, S2 being a KMS navy playthrough etc. I've been eggign borderwise to make such a series, but he likes his doomcram canoes too much :D Loved everything about the video, keep em coming!
Armor seems a bit thin. Btw if you want to see how it does being made out of alloy, there is a conversion tool that you can access by looking at the ship and pressing V. There is a tab in that menu that says armor refit. You can use that to change to about what ever kind of armor you want. I also think some anti missile and torpedo systems would do you some good too. Nothing like a lams or anything that big. I think some missile interceptors will do just fine. If you got the space putting them on a two axis turret works very well but, you can also have them vertically launch from the hull as well. Some anti air weapons (in the early game the simple weapon AA guns will do fine) would be very handy. Alternatively, you can just swap the mantel for your guns to the AA one.
@@rowbot5555 I've played this since 2015, I beat quest for Neter about 5 times now with two of the campaigns recorded and uploaded to my channel and I also beat the main campaign on the hardest difficulty setting. Wood is not something I would recommend to build anything you intend to get shot at.
It's a really nice ship, but 65k is actually alot of ressources when you start a normal nether campain. You can afford that when you captured some enemy ships, but not at the very start. Maybe a smal 20k corvette
The base rig at game start makes 2800 mats per minute, meaning you will have the mats for it within 23 minutes. So it probably won’t be your first campaign ship but definitely an early game ship still
Yes please keep the time-lapse in. Building is my favorite part of this game. Please be sure you spawn the enemy's facing you. If you are above your ship when you spawn them that'd be best. The way you spawned the ships they were at a Massive disadvantage.
Thats a real nice hull tbh, it looks great! This seems like a fun series I do recommend doing periodic updates/clips on the state of your build, rather than a time-lapse, as its a lot less jarring. You can always voice over them later
As someone who has played ftd a lot, it is great to see some more videos on it, just discoverd this channel through this one and its pretty nice. I have to say that this is a quite good looking destroyer for a first video, how much playtime do you have already? Cant really add many more tips that haven't been mentioned already but you seem to have a little overkill engines with that much spare power, id recommend lowering it which whould make it even cheaper and lighter if you dont need it for future upgrades. Also using heavy armour on such a small ship might not be that great, it instead have multiple layers of metal and alloy since HA is incredibly heavy while metal has almost neutral buoyancy and alloy the best in the game (after air). Some decent light armour whould be: Metal-Alloy-Airgap-Alloy/(Metal around important bits) since that whould be bouyand and also help against HESH and HEAT. For me HA is only used if going against very powerfull craft or if you are very short on space. Also i can recommend looking at faction craft, specifically the SS if you want realistic build as lose examples (Dryad and Resolute are some great looking easy difficulty ww2 destroyers) Hope to see more of you, i really enjoyed this video!
You know you can "dig" in the hull and place the subobject turret thingy way under the deck, giving you extra space to work, real useful for fast firing/powerful guns, the main advantage is the fact you can extend the ammo racks by a huge ton and armor them more
I’m kind of curious how many hours you have. You mad a good looking ship(at least by my slightly fancied hull ish wedge standards), but are worried about DWG ships. How many do you have?
The realities of being a realistic/historic builder. Usually the designs don't translate super well to FTD so weaponry tends to get underwhelming because ftd weapons take up more space than a deck gun of the same caliber would irl. Hulls usually are shaped and sized in a way that rarely let's you fit what you need in anything but a 1m thick, maybe 2 if lucky hull. Etc etc. Especially if you build realistic interiors aswell
@@elementalgolem5498 yea, but you don’t need much more than a 5x5 area and a hole in the deck to make an aps that can hurt. Crams are even smaller, needing only a 3x3x3 cube to work. I have fit aps guns that are 250mm and turreted on to something the size of a rat(the ship). If you can’t even fit that in, you can just use DIF aps guns.
@@bobbobson2538 but very low fire rate aps etc. For example to make a real 2x2x3 gun from real life in FTD would need a 5x5x10 aps quite different. And then ammo storage etc etc meaning it takes more space
@@elementalgolem5498 if you are going for realistic, low rpm is accurate. The uss Iowa’s 16” guns(which are 406mm) has a rpm of 2. And if you want a higher fire rate, you can use 1m autoloaders.
@@bobbobson2538 it's 2 rpm with 3 guns which is 6 rpm and to make it in FTD you would need 2x the area it takes up. But, that's a rather old gun. A modern one such as the mark 45 mod 4 (I won't count zumwalts gun as although bigger it's not in use technically, there's no ammo for it) fires 20rpm but is 127 mm and takes a 3x3x3 area ON TOP of the deck and a 1x1x2m area below the deck aswell as it's barrel requiring space to turn and whatnot. But it's quite different from the FTD version of it that would need a 5x5x5(+-) area below deck taking away from ammo, engine etc. Also, engines. The US navy has far more powerful, fuel efficient and space efficient designs than what you can even min max in FTD. Also also armour, few ships have 1m thick armour let alone the 2-4m that's a standard "minimum" for FTD.
A bit late, but I love it especially as a ww2 naval history fan. I would recommend adding some light aa defences in the form of auto cannons though, it would be historical and useful!!
I've just started getting into FtD, and I SEVERELY underestimated the learning curve. My first ship does have a few quirks that I'm still trying to work out, but overall it looks pretty much like I want it to.
For anyone still reading this ensure you are fully wrapping components in heavy armor. Except in rare circumstances you shouldn't bother covering the top of something in heavy armor but not the bottom or the front but not the back because damage will find its way through the weaker armor. Leaving you with an empty box of heavy armor protecting nothing. Occasionally on large turrets a fronting of heavy armor makes sense. Either around the gun mantlet or down the entire turret front if the gun is very important. This can sometimes allow the cannon to take a hit that would have otherwise killed it without adding too much to the cost. (Ie: stopping large AP rounds or a small cram shell from deleting the turret). Tldr: if you're using heavy armor to protect something that is vital to the craft, stops a chain reaction or, could turn the tide of battle if it dies that's good. If you're using it to make a chunk of armor a bit tougher or allowing the components it protects to die anyways by leaving gaps that's not great.
5 and a half minutes in the destroyer looks a bit like the A and B class destroyers from the royal navy with the sizes matching up as well as the shaping and positioning of things like the funnels and bridge
@@PatchBits yeah looks like it I only put both A and B class since they were basically the same ship like the J K and M classes the main differences were whether they use the letter A or B to start the name same goes for the J K and M classes
Strange. You've sounded like a perfect mad scientist material. Then you build a simple boat instead?!? :O We will see, the seizure part is promising. :)
Info on speed, I'm trying to be useful: - x1.2 speed almost normal, can be followed - x3 is a bit over that maximum - x5 shows the flow only I'm curious, how fast are they? Yes I think these fast forwards are logical.
@@PatchBits Ah cool I must've missed that lol If you don't mind another tip: it looks like you have a lot of excess engine power, which you could probably use on a LAMS and/or shields if you don't mind using them
Wish there was a warship or general ship building game with different prefabricated parts. One you can design and actually go aboard. Make your own functioning ocean liners.
Warship Gunner? It doesn't have the walk around the ship part but it's got one of the most robust and accessible shipbuilding systems I've ever played.
Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnaughts is a really good game for making war ships, but you cannot walk around on them. It has a really nice, easy and very cool building system.
If you want to manually sail a ship, you need to be within a few blocks of a vehicle controller / ships wheel, a fire control computer will also allow you to control all of the weapons from one place.
Just build more destroyers. American destroyers like Fletcher and gearing are awesome. 127mm 5" 38 caliber dual purpose guns all the way. The crazy British destroyers that charge into German capital ships. The Japanese destroyers that like detonating. People continue this list for me.
Added on to this list is the French destroyers that can run away exceptionally well, the Italian destroyers that turn to wet spaghetti when shot at, the American destroyer USS Laffey (Benson class) that pulled a RN DD move and charged the IJN Kirishima, the Canadian destroyers that apologize to sunken U-Boats in the Atlantic, the German destroyers that get bombed in port, and the Swiss destroyers that never existed
So, I haven't watched the video yet. But based on the thumbnail I'm guessing the destroyer is based of of one of the following 3 ships: Acasta, Gallant, or Icarus
One of the biggest disappointments of the game is that the best builds overwhelmingly have as few weapons as possible, so that each one can be at maximum firepower. So... building something that looks realistic isn't terribly capable in terms of performance.
Really can't recommend 120mm aphe that you're using, though against wood it isn't bad, I'd instead recommend something like hesh frag or either shell by itself since dwg craft don't regularly have spaced armor and frag tear apart wood/exposed internals. Though, if it's not broken don't fix it ig.
Only have one serious comply, why you take soo long to save you maniac. Other than that good vid, maybe not accelerating too much the time lapses and puttin the postmorden commenting bits after it so we can follow along while you build a gun, bow or superstructure
As someone watching this video looking to follow along as a build guide, speeding through all the parts where you shape out the ship was not super helpful. :( You showed how long and how wide, but not how deep.... I watched this because I wanted a step by step build guide to build a starter craft and I came away no closer to figuring out how to do that.
omfg i am sick of looking for a tutorial to follow along with and not even 3 mins into the video and everything is fucked not everyone can just look at a fucking design and just build it off sight ive been looking for so long for someone to teach me how to play this game step by step but no channel does that they just build something and say there ya go copy that god damn it im nvr going to learn how to play this game
I understand the frustration, i'm not the best at this game so I may not be the best to make it, but I could make a series of tutorials for this game at some point, but this series is purely meant to be a showcase / lets play. Best of luck! Stick with it, the game is great.
There sadly arent many tutorials for this game in youtube. Your best option is on the official discord, people there are very helpful. Or they tell you to use APEMP rail sandblasters.
