Not so fun fact: Baumgartner very nearly killed himself going through the training for the jump, and quit several times through the process because it was just too tough. And I don't blame him! Great to see you again Daven!
I actually only heard this story because of a local radio show. Mr. Kittenger actually attained the rank of colonel before he died. I don't know how that man walked with a set of balls like that. I truly believe he may be the greatest american hero. I don't know why he was not made an astronaut. But I would like to thank The love doctors rich and Glenn for bringing this to my attention because they had him live on air on WZZR out of West Palm Beach, Florida.
Cool!!! Thank you for the interesting information. I'm surprised that this astronaut survived the stunt. What causes the human body to go into this lethal flat spin? I've never heard of such an anomaly.
Umm, one should be able to control the movement, regardless of how thin the air is, just like a skydiver. After all it IS that thin or otherwise air that’s causing the spin, so it can be used to correct the motion. This weird spin may happen IF someone gets in a particular body configuration, and is unconscious maybe due to high altitude, to do anything about it. But no, the air does not attack and centrifuge you at high altitude 😂
@@LeNomEstYves I was just saying that if the person is conscious, he can control his body, and won’t go spinning like crazy. High or low altitude makes no difference.
@@iteerrex8166 There's a ton of factors but if you're in a bulky pressure suit with limited mobility and there's not enough air pressure to counteract the spin you're screwed. Flat spins are deadly because it takes time to slow the spin down enough and in some cases people black out before they can
@@LeNomEstYves Less pressure or thin air would only increase the velocity, so the aerodynamics would still be the same. But if the bodysuit is very restrictive and holds the person in a bad shape, to cause the “seed pod” spin, then that would bad. Some strategic fins would help the situation, if the restriction are hard to remove.
I remember it well. I didn't get the imense hype well we're Austrians we're no good in most sports so I guess we needed this achievement. Sponsored by Red Bull is of course perfectly fitting Altough I guess after the founders death the majority is Chinese now
Just wait for SpaceX or Blue Origins or one of the other couple private space exploration companies makes space flight cheap enough that people only need a few thou to go up. People would then pay tens of thousands to jump.
