In the twilight of his career, West Indian legend Brian Lara gave Australian audiences one last performance to remember, a majestic double century in Adelaide in 2005
Sir Hobbs, Sachin, Sir Bradman, Gavaskar had all the shots from the textbook. Lara wrote his own textbook. Part scientist, part artist, complete GENIUS. That's Brian Charles Lara.
Sachin played from the textbook? There are several shots that he invented of his own … what makes Lara’s shots look unique is that high backlift and unmistakable flair otherwise he didn’t toy much with the ball … played every shot in the textbook
@@Wild2theCore if you observe his innings, Lara had the body balance of a trapeze artist and playing exquisite shots from that position combined with the timing even with the high backlit makes it unique in its own right. Sachin's shots seemed very novel coz combined with the technique, he scored the runs at a quicker pace. Else, like Gavaskar before him, Sachin was pretty much "by the books".
There has to be a stat for the amount of times that Lara contributed over 40/50% of the teams total. Mind blowing how he didn’t relent to the pressure of captaincy either.
Ryan Webb Could be said it was the same for ST in the first half of his career. Carried the weight and expectations of over a billion people for as long as he did and often the team crumbled without him scoring. Captaincy is probably the key difference between the two. ST didn’t have the personality for that, I think. Though aside from the amazing champions trophy comeback win against England, the WI didn’t win a whole lot under Lara.
Although Lara broke Allan Border's 12 year old test runs aggregate record during this innings, and any Lara century represents the highest echelon of brilliant batsmanship, his 182 off only 235 balls 5 years earlier on the same ground was a superior innings, for that particular series was still alive, even thought the windies went on to be whitewashed, whereas this 226 was in a dead rubber.
His ability to come out and bat in the highest pressured situations is out of this world. Team at 19/2, walking out to face the likes of McGrath, Warne and Lee in the Aussie's backyard is an extremely difficult task to just survive. But to put on 200 (not to mention at the age of 36) just shows that Lara was in a league if his own
McGrath and Lee yes.... however Lara was an absolute beast against spinners....he averaged 57 against SL and 61 against Aus... mind you he faced off Warne and Murali a lot and came out on top on most occasions
Brian Lara the stylish left hander who can play cuts, pull, sweep, flick, glance, cover drives, charging down, straight drives, great foot work and the one who plays the big innings and enjoy playing on Aussie soil. My fav player Brian Charles Lara!!!
@@SaiBaba-zi5my well arent you a fun little racist. Every batsman or bowler from a touring side in aus gets a standing ovation for an oUtstanding performance. We actually LOVE when our opposition puts up a fight. We just hate mouthy little racist cuntz who are always bleating when they get flogged.
There was another one, Sir Vivian Richards. I was in Eden Gardens Kolkata giving him standing ovation with 90,000 people when he was walking in to bat in 1988 (or 1987).
The standing ovation was given because it was the last time he walked into the ground for an internal game. Same gestures were given to sachin as well in many venues around the world
@@ilovegurusahib because sachin fans are the most insecure pathetic lot i have ever seen. Every video they have to come and tell everyone how sachin is better than whoever is being highlighted. Sad tbh as he really is great but his fans are woat
226 against top quality bowling attack, McGrath with his laser precision line and lenght, Lee with his dazzling speed and Warne with his magic deliveries. But Prince Lara outsmarted them all. What a class player. ❤
0:43 OMG! What a decision!!! I think this was probably THE BEST decision of Aleem Dar! Not only that it looked out from a naked eye, but also that how critical correct umpiring decisions are, especially when there was no review system! Hands down, THE best umpire the game has witnessed.
My woooooooord....THAT ARTISTRY..THAT SUDDEN BACKLIFT..THAT BAT SWING..THAT SHOULDER MOVEMENT...THAT COVER DRIVE.. THAT ON-DRIVE.....MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME....STILL GIVES ME CHILLS..,..ONCE A WIZARD .... ALWAYS A GENUIS...
So according to your grand uncle: “ when Lara is at his BEST., CRICKET gets worse” ? Your grand uncle either had problems with understanding cricket or English or both, but probably the latter.
That's the subtlety of the gentleman, B.C. Lara! He indeed was smooth and soothing as a gentle breeze blowing and at the same time a category-5 hurricane force winds with boundaries and placements!
There is king. There is God.There is hitman. There is wall. There is boss. There is machine. But no one can deny there is only one Beloved prince of cricket .
His double century in Sydney as a young man captured the world's attention. WoW !! who is this guy ??? From then on lovers of cricket could not get enough of him. He loved that Adelaide wicket. Thats a quality bowling lineup he's thrashed around the ground with McGrath Warne Lee Macgill. Legend.
Lara is by far one of the smoothest batsmen you will ever see. I like Jayasurya, but Brian is just fun to watch. He is talented, confident and smart player. This innings of his was a pure gem.
@Rishi J Rishi i truly agree in test cricket lara was ultimate batsman he was class above the rest his shot selection batting grace was a sheer delight to the eye he was a aboulute legend of the game Great BRAIN CHARLES LARA🔥🔥
As in indian, I support Indian cricket team but Brian Lara is always been my favourite player more than Sachin, Virat or anybody else. I always loved his unique style of batting, always pleasure to watch and loved watching his ability to quickly score. He scored 501 not out in first class and 400 not out in test both are world records which still hasn't been broken yet. Simply, the best batsman ever played in the world.
He has so much time. It's extraordinary. Even against Lee, he's is position so early, you can see the pause of the bat as he waits for the ball to come.
Umpiring excellence at 0:49..if Lara was given out by Alem Dhar, we would have missed this beautiful innings.. Hail 1000times Alem Dhar for his best umpiring skills..
@@shujahmohammed9173 I know him lmao, the Pakistani guy who scored a triple ton, right? But he's not a very good overall player. Plus no one cares about a team who can't even field properly and defeats India once in a decade 😂
@@TheTredocBro, Always when i see brian lara's videos, i have comment of urs. I think u are the greatest fan of sir Lara. I too a great fan of lara. He is Genius.
Such beautiful strokes. Never before and never after. Legend, i cried when he retired. He should have created a clone of him before retiring. I miss him a lot. His flair, no one ever can reach. I have not seen bradman play. He is the greatest batsmen i have seen
As a West Indian I miss him. What a player. Miss seeing those beautiful strokes. The flair, the high back lift. The current West Indies team can barely score 200 in a test match.
I remember watching it live. Brett Lee was bowling a barrage of bouncers when Lara was approaching his double hundred and he literally murdered the two of them to get to his double! Such a legend !! Take a bow !
A batsman batting the whole day, then going back to his room to sleep, then coming back the next day and continuing for the whole (or most) of next day with the bowlers toiling and still not able to get him out... this is one of the really beautiful things about test cricket, to be found in no other sport.
Yes it's something not said often of Warnie, I remember him also congratulating Flintoff after 80 odd in one of the 05 Ashes matches when he had just played a near match winning innings. Apparently some of the other Aussies & support crew didn't like it and so told him quietly to stop.
That Caribbean swing of the bat and absolutely sweetly timed shots only one can dream of. Lara wow! Glad I witnessed his career and playing days from start to finish coz it’s a delight! ✌️
They didn't have the discipline. Of all the members of that lineup.....only Chanderpaul fulfilled his talent. Sarwan should have averaged close to 60.........gayle too was woefully inconsistent.....samuels was even more inconsistent and more arrogant to boot. I'm not saying lara was an angel but this guy's should have come to the party more often. How many times dis we see lara score 170-200 and the team total was 380-400 when usually an individual score like that ends up in a 500+ team total
Best of the best. Remember waking up early in the morning for a Non India involving match only to watch him and Ponting bat. Golden days of my life and many more like me from that era. Crazy genius.
If you pay a close attention at 6:04, Shane Warne approaches Lara, shakes his hand and pads him on the head. A gesture not seen from ANY other Australian. A great batsman was seen off by a great bowler. Rest in the highest ground of the heavens Shane🇦🇫❤️🇨🇦
Despite his high backlift the amount of time he has to play 90+ mph deliveries (@2:42 and @2:50 and @3:28) is amazing. If you freeze the pane around @2:43, you will see that the 90+ mph ball is virtually upon Lara, while he is still waiting with his super-high backlift, and yet he middles the ball perfectly . His bat must be coming down at lightning speed.
Shane Warne is a great character 🙏🙏he always appreciate his opposition..that is a great example of sportsmanship.. because this is not a war..love u Warne..you are greatest spinner
*Lara was an artist his batting is like a poetry* 💖 *One of the greatest batsman of all time 🙌.. if not the greatest (which is always a subjective) but he's the most complete player this beautiful game could ever get* ✌
Oh Brian Lara-My Batting hero when I was growing up-Him and Sachin Tendulkar are 2 of my favourite Batsman to watch (Very Smart and Technically Superb Batsmanship)It would be a huge honour to meet these Legends of Cricket-I remember the day when Brian Lara scored that Incredible World Record Innings of 400 against England in 2004 Great Batsman-Wonderful Cricketer to watch!!!!!!!!!!
Repeatedly I have been seeing this clipping but still Iam feeling as it iam seeing first time, that's mesmerizing of Lara., what a wonderful batsmen to watch.
Only Lara and Tendulkar are the two guys who could play shane warne really well and sometimes even dominate him. Lara is the best player of spin ever no doubt about that.

Even someone watches (after 100 years) LARA and SACHIN playing old matches ----- have to feel fresh every time and only think about where they learned to play such class/unique strokes.
