The Marlin Model 1894 is an iconic lever action rifle originally patented in August 1893 by L. L. Hepburn. When introduced in 1894 an ad claimed “In the Model 1894 rifle, every desirable feature of the 1889 is retained and the improvements suggested by five more years of experience and experiment are added.” A newspaper article dated November 17, 1894 mentioned the Model 1894 repeater was now chambered in .25.-20. This rifle became a favorite among cowboys, farmers and hunters across North America and continues to be a desired firearm among cowboy action shooters. Join Steve Ostrem as he offers a quick inside look and personal anecdotes surrounding the Marlin 1894.

I love the Vault segments. I love revisiting old almost if not forgotten firearms, that most don't know exist.

I have a marlin model 94 that I have found that had been underwater for a long while. I'd like to restore but there is a bullet stuck in it. The gun was rusted pretty good. I have got most of the rust off it . Although I can't get the rail to slide. So therefore I can't get the bullet out. Any suggestion on how to get it apart and out?

I have a identical twin of your model 1894 except it is a takedown model. I also had the bbl relined. It was made in 1900 which makes it 123 years old. I also reload so it does get used. I love the gun. And shoot it several times each year. Have had it since the 1960's

My great grandfather had one of the Marlin 94’s in 25-20. My grandfather took a couple of deer off of the back porch with it when he was young. Always wished it would have been left to me.

Thanks! Good to see the old Marlin 1894 in the spotlight. I have one like your's except in nice original condition and excellent bore that shoots extremely well. I have another that's a saddle ring carbine in 32WCF I have used in cowboy action shooting. I'm rebuilding yet another that is in 38WCF that has had a rough life. It has a 26" octagon barrel. It could use a barrel liner but Redman liner but you've discontinued that offering.

My GrandMother gave me my GrandFather's rifle, an 1894 30.30 with an octagonal barrel. I need another rear sight. I can't wait to take it to the range.

How do you determine the model number on these old Marlins in the Model number is not stamped on the receiver or barrel? All I have are patent dates (1887, 1889, 1893) and caliber (25-20)

Just picked up an 1894 in 38-55, manufactured in 1897, just have to add the tang sight and the front sight bead to replace the blade sight. It shows enough wear and tear that it's a shooter and not a hanger.

I am considering buying an 1894 Marlin in .32-20, had an 1892 Winchester but I want something different, I already have a Winchester 1885 low wall that was made in 1889, but I want another lever gun again, and I can get the Marlin for a good $1,000 less than the 1892 in the same condition.

I have an 1893 Marlin in 30-30 that belonged to my deceased father that I would like to have serviced. All mechanical parts seem to function properly but this rifle has not seen a drop of oil in years and I think it’s missing a screw or two. The buttstock is also cracked. Where can I send it to?

Hi. I love all the guns and I love watching your history Lessons From the Vault. I have questions about a 1892 krag Jordan. Mine is dated 1894 on the receiver with a Cartouche dating it at 1895. My gun is in the caliber 30 40 krag. So I believe this was a transition piece of the 1892 krag to the fact that I find such a little information about it out there. It's in a hundred percent condition, I think. I would be glad to send you photographs of my piece of History. I am lucky enough to have a bayonet dated 1892 and it's scabber from then As well. Forgive me for a few of the misspellings. I'm using speak and spell. Thank you for your time and I hope to see a video on the 1892 krag. Thank you for your time.

I have a Marlin 25-20 that my Great Grandfather used. I have recently had it inspected and a firing pin and spring replaced. I have never fired it and am looking for ammo for it. I have found 25-20 Remington that is 86gr., muzzle energy 407 ft/lbs and muzzle velocity of 1460 fps. Is this safe to fire through this older version of the Marlin?

I'm cleaning up a Marlin No 27 slide action chambered in 25-20 Marlin. Can I fire 25-20 Winchester threw this rifle ? Is there a difference between 25-20 M vs 25-20 WCF ?

I have a Marlin Model 1894 that was my grandfather's passed to me from my father. Now I know nothing about guns so I don't know the right language to use. Mine looks very similar to yours in the video but the part of the action that pulls back the hammer is only on one side of the rifle, the right. The left side is solid and doesn't have a sliding mechanism. Is that unusual?

How much would it cost to get a Marlin 1894 relined in 32-20? Mine is shot out and needs to be relined.
