As soon as you said " I do not need this in my life anymore" I gave you a thumbs up. Way to go.

Pretty funny when Americans travel here to se-asia with 2 BIG suitcases full of everything..just to discover that clothes shoes electronics and most things u need often is 60-70% cheaper and available everyware. its like a tshirt cost 1 $ and cargo shorts for 6$ here in bangkok and yes there are "bigboy" sizes too same with ladys clothes and things Best is to do a real research of localprices and what's cheap before u travel and keep the weight down because to much luggage is like a big anchor when u travel.

This year, we managed to reduce our load down to two backpacks and one carry-on bag for the 4 months we are in Europe. Greetings from Reykjavik, Iceland!😉😊💓

The less we are dragging behind us the more comfortable we seem to be these days. We are in our hometown now, in storage we each have one clothes bin and then a few kitchen bins for more comfort when renting a place for the summer (plus bikes, bike bin, fishing bin, games bin, etc). And now, we are feeling overwhelmed with all this stuff - which is nothing compared to everyone else we know. It's funny - we realize we have become true minimalists and are now overwhelmed with too much stuff, which isn't very much. Less is more comfortable. When we head out from this place, we'll each just have a backpack. Less is more.

Less is totally more. Will you dump the storage unit?
@latreashduvall8636
@latreashduvall8636 27 дней назад
@@EatWalkLearn no, half the unit is our young adult kids stuff, the other our remaining toys - bikes, camp stuff, golf clubs, fishing pokes, Christmas, etc. We land near our storage unit a few times a year. We will keep for now.

Great video and super job on the minimizing! The “just in case (suitcase)” comment is spot on. It’s crazy how many pairs and different types of socks I lug around . . . just in case. We leave for 4 months in Mexico soon and I will be trying your bundling method, as well as fewer things. Thanks!

Great video! We were planning on a carry-on and a big backpack each for our long-term travels but now you have me questioning whether we need all of that.

I travel with an Osprey 26+6 for my carry on, but it will also work as US personal item and a smaller backpack (no name- got in a swag bag @ charity event) and that's all I ever carry. Domestic, International, or cruise. For hiking, maybe look at trail runners instead of boots. I have found to be much more usable, lighter, and can use for other purposes. I"m nearly 70, single male and travel at least 6 times per year.
@EatWalkLearn
@EatWalkLearn Месяц назад
That's great. One small difference: we're carrying everything we own in the world in our one bag. Thanks for the tips on boots. I changed to trail runners after the first year, which have been great. I do miss my boots tho and would get them again for mountain hiking.

I'm down to a Ryanair personal item. Best choice ever. A portion of the money I save on baggage fees (50+ flights a year) I spend on purchasing what I need at my location. I can carry my little pack of maybe 12 lbs, anywhere

Great idea! After a 6 month trip with sharing one bag, we were very excited to unpack our 'new' clothes from our storage unit. Funny thing is we realized we still wore what we traveled with and hardly any of the ones we didnt! 🙂

I *love* the idea of buying temporary clothing from charity shops, using it while you need it, then donating it back! My wife and I have been trying to figure out how we can carry clothing for multiple seasons while still traveling light, and this appears to be the solution we are looking for. We can just carry summer-weight clothes, and "rent" anything we need for colder or inclement weather. Thanks for the tip!

Glad we could help. It's such a good feeling to bring clothes into a charity shop to donate.

As a chef, I was used to wearing the same outfit (uniform) every day. After I lived and worked outside the US for 15 years, I returned in 2018 to start my own business. Now I have the best of both worlds - a live/workspace as a home base in the US while traveling to Europe and Asia 4-6 months a year. Not only can I manage with just a carry-on but I can live in a tiny room above a storefront on a busy street in a neighborhood where English is not the first language spoken. Still not sharing my bag with someone else though!

When I walked the Camino I sent my rollon ahead to Santiago and carried what I wanted for the Camino in my backpack. Funny, we were considering expanding to a permanent check-in just because we are frustrated with Airbnb kitchens. Have a great time.

What is the European weight limit?
@EatWalkLearn
@EatWalkLearn Месяц назад
It varies by airline, but usually around 10k for carry on (plus one personal item of 7k.) Some charge you for the second carry on, some don't. Most do.

@stephengoehring8295 Месяц назад
Several airlines we used had 8 kg overhead, 4 kg underseat weight limits. We used that number as our goal on our 13 months of travel (so far). 70 YO carry on only travelers.
