Yes and we didn't realise it. We organised concerts with bands like front 242, tc matic, 2 belgen etc like if we were ordening pizza. Hey why don't we have a concert? Ok which band? We would call the manager all perched around the old rotary phone and if you could get an agreement it was showtime.
My dad is/was a huge fan of them. He has F242 on his license plate and owns a few old tour shirts, one of which he gave to me because I really like the design. It's crazy for me to imagine my dad listening to these "rebellious" songs at that time since he is so strict nowadays. I sometimes listen to these bands like F242 or Depeche Mode and I get nostalgic of my dad driving us all home late at night after a family gathering while songs like this play on the car stereo.
My 76er Dad is a huge Rammstein fan. His voice was hoarse after singing at the concert . He was also @Igorrr with me, which made him the oldest fan there. What a cool dude he is... greetz from Berlin/Germany
Then who turned Ministry into trash metal later? I miss the early days. Every Day Is Halloween was a great tune. Stigmata ftw even though sampled guitar.
Been listening to Front 242 for decades. I remember hearing this song as a teen when I was about 15 or 16 (I'm 44 now). I remember going on a hunt to find all of the Front 242 CD's I could find. I LOVE this shit, it's so good and it has aged so well. This music is amazing. Kids these days don't even know.
"Kids these days don't even know" It's on the internet, I'm pretty sure a bunch of kids have already added this song to their spotify playlist or danced to it on tik tok.
I was 12 years old in 1991 and listened to this on cassette tape rewinding to listen to this track over and over again... Kids these days have it too easy.
+Luis Rodriguez Me 2. It was just a vinyl SANYO Walkmen, didn´t get the metallic SONY Walkman cause of costing. The sounding was little bit heavy irie, but i liked especially this song on my tape and listen to it on and on and on.....but thought it was in summer 1988 or 1989? I was 16 than. Gott ist das lange her!!!!
90s nation on MTV classic played this, oddly enough, a little while back..ended up slam dancing with my furniture for real :) ...definitely one of the greatest tunes of all time!!!
80's Music is key. alot was happening when it came to music and fashion new extremes were pushed in a really big way, paving the way basically. it also birthed the whole goth counter culture, which as we know is still kicking it strong.
I am 42 now. They were the first band I ever saw live without family at age 17. That was one of the most amazing nights ever for me. Oh and yeah they are still amazing!
With that skill that was hers alone She drove her clutches into me I was dumbfounded She was hungry She required me entirely All that's left is here to remain It's a dull and cruel pain That passes the ages unaltered Her stamp is in my heart I still feel disemboweled I clearly retain A blank The void The sore in my soul The mark in my heart Her acid reign Hot sun, global fun Needed action, start to run And that voice that was hers alone Still resounds in me She left me dislocated Disavowed And twitching Her rhythm is in my heart She inspired in me An acute sense of treachery
groundbreaking album and poetic video! tyranny for you was my first ebm cd in the mid-90's. it was a very eerie dark experience. all my friends back then were all into the seattle/grunge scene while i was getting hooked up into a whole new genre.
i used to rock out to this on my 45 - 60 minute drive to see my girlfriend in high school in pleasureville (not joking, that was the name of the town). such an aptly named town.
It's the song I heard at the goth/industrial night when I snuck out, had to sleep in a parking lot, and got searched by the cops... That was one hell of a night, but sure worth it. I've been looking all over for this song!

2024 still here! I still have my biohazard symbol tattoo on my leg from 1993. It used to bother me when people thought it was because of the band of the same name. I got it because of the Industrial Movement.
One of the first Industrial songs that was introduced to me back during the early "nineties".Takes me back to my first real nightclub(club,"Post Nuclear")in 1991 when I was an 18 year old HS senior(better than going to school dances).
This was my 2nd "Industrial/EBM" concert I went to. The "Tyranny For You" Tour in 92'. What an amazing show! Still have my tour shirt! Haven't seen them since 98' when they played in Chi-Town with Project Pitchfork. EBM NOT DEAD!!
Timeless... I saw these guys at Lollapalooza in the 90s where I lost my friend in the mosh pit. I later found him after when the whole event was over at the casualty tent, as his ear got clipped by someone's Doc Martens earlier that afternoon. so glad he got to experience this epic event before he got escorted to the hospital in the ambulance.
Sounds like an epic fucking experience. My brother and sister in law took me to one of their shows. Brother is spinning like a whirling dirvish in the pit, cutting his hand on the barrier screen. Continues to spin like a top blood flying in all directions. Lead singer says " that looks like it hurts, can we get this guy medical attention". I nearly pissed myself laughing so hard.
2020 and Front so far ahead of their time, that Astoria appearance is so long ago, but man, the tunes, they stand up and sound better the older they get, 242 forever
That feeling when you find that old tote and pull out your old cassette collections and find ALL THE INDUSTRIAL in 2022 because the world needs it again!!!
C'était la belle époque. Jusque fin des années 90's ont pouvaient voire Jean-Luc De Meyer au centre ville au le café" DNA "(ancien café ou les punks de l'époque ce rassemblaient ).
When this album was released I whent to the private party at club Industry in Dallas Texas, and got to meet them... they came out with shopping carts full of beer...
I'm genuinely curious. My recollection is that Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Ministry etc had massive cult followings in the 1980s but almost never appeared on TV and very rarely charted - thirty years later the whole ferocious electronic industrial dance genre has been sort of forgotten even thought a lot of it still sounds awesome, Ministry in particular. When people write about music of the 1980s it's always either hip-hop, shoegazing indie rock, hair metal, or rave. This kind of stuff never gets talked about. What happened? Why wasn't this huge?
Greetings from a fellow Pomeroy and lover of all things EBM and Industrial! I agree with you that this style of music should have been so much bigger and should have broken through from the underground music scene. But at the same time it kinda makes it more unique and special and it makes you feel like you're a part of a secret cult of people that the masses will never know or understand! Modern day music pales so much in comparison to this!
What made the industrial movement so great was that all the bands were connected in one way or another. I am sure there is a genealogical chart out there somewhere., and in that we are all connected too.
ministry got a fair bit of coverage & notoriety in the mainstream media in the 90's (jesus built my hotrod especially and the psalm 69 album) but the others, nope.
I have always loved the sound of this song, but seeing the video for the first time and realize that it is an Anton Corbijn video, and then read the lyrics. Makes perfect sens.
A long time ago I found the album this song was on and would listen to the album in the background while working on my art. Today I actually was able to listen to this song properly and can't believe how good it is. Been listening to it all day.
