Using this "ghetto style" of straightening frame would be okay if the car is running, operating and drivable. Obviously if the car is nor driveable then you might need another car, SUV or preferably a heavy duty truck to pull the frame. This method should work on the rear end as well.
In our case, the damage is extensive but primarily the upper tie radiator support bar. We figure if we could straighten the frame then we do not have to replace the entire front frame which may require welding and riveting.
Initially we were going to do a series of videos documenting how we repair and restore my brother's car but unfortunately parts were extremely expensive at that time (it was still during the tail end of the pandemic and the used car prices were through the roof so we decided to progress slowly and try to find cheap, used or aftermarket parts, which were not too plentiful for insight. By the time we we able to locate most of the parts cheaply, it was time for Aiman to begin his freshman year at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Aiman will be studying Mechanical Engineering there. So their parents, his mom and dad had to perform the repair and restoration without this talented young mechanic. How to Fix Frame Damage on a Car
Frame damage occurs when your vehicle has been struck or damaged at a critical part of its structure. And while we all hope we never have to deal with major damage, the potential for fender-benders, accidents, and the need for repairs are just a part of owning a car.
Straightening a bent car frame yourself is not recommended at home unless the damage is minor to the car body. Dents and dings are easily hammered out, and crushed bumpers can be straightened with chains and a pulling post, but bending large amounts of metal that are essential to your vehicle's proper functioning should be left to the professionals.
Honda Insight:
The Honda Insight is a hybrid electric vehicle that was manufactured and marketed by Honda in its first generation as a two-door, two passenger liftback (1999-2006) and in its second generation as a four-door, five passenger liftback (2009-2014). In its third generation, it became a four-door sedan (2019-present). It was Honda's first model with Integrated Motor Assist system and the most fuel efficient gasoline-powered car available in the U.S. without plug-in capability. EPA estimates for the first-generation Insight were 61 City/70 Highway/65 Combined.
Second generation (ZE2/ZE3; 2010-2014):
The new Insight includes Honda's fifth generation of its Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system. This system mates an internal combustion engine with an electric motor mounted directly to the engine's crankshaft between the engine and transmission.
