First Frame Pull Test on my Homemade Frame Rack Jig.

I recently built an auto body Frame pulling machine also know as a frame rack. And in this video I will be performing the very first frame pull with that machine. Mainly I wanted to test out the quality of the welds to make sure this thing was strong and sturdy. I've been wanting to build this sort of a jig for sometime time now, because it's a very useful tool that I will get a lot of use out of. Hopefully this video will be useful to some.

I've been hit being in a hurry didn't think there was any way if it slipped it would hit me well it ripped out in a way that the chain flew sideways instead of directly at the rack like I thought it would knocked out 3 teeth fractured bones in my face split my upper lip in half and chipped a bunch of my teeth use a safety chain no matter what it's worth it

Fix you have done a fantastic job in building this machine. I am very proud for you. We built a log splitter a few years ago. The only problem was a cylinder that was not strong enough. We added a bulldozer cylinder to this set up and it was far more stronger than needed! As long as your Valve, Pump, and Cylinder is strong enough something is going to move lol. Let me know my friend. Phillip

There is always more then one way to skin a cat... I am a big fan of recycling/repurposing... Using a bulldozer cylinder was a great idea on your part. Those things are built like tanks and are made to take some serious abuse.

I've been waiting on this video to see how your frame rack performed and it did the job nicely. Really handy that it's portable, so that you can work wherever you want to and then put it away later. One of my hydraulic jacks that I haven't used for a while decided to leak, so I'll have to top that up after replacing the seal on the fluid lock. Audio was a lot better in this video also. Hope you are doing videos of your trammel construction and upgrade to the spot welder soon. I'm looking forward to these, as I'm planning to make a trammel some time and seeing how you made yours will be very helpful. I might even have to consider making spot welder too! Last dent repair I did, I used the hot glue - gluing on a stick method. Works to some degree, but a spot welder would be better.
@fix206
@fix206 4 года назад
Bruce, my friend how have you been? I hope you liked the video, I figure out a new way to adjust my audio levels and I think I nailed it this time. Tram gauge video will come on a later date, I'm working on another vid currently. And then I'll have another vid in the works after that. I've used the glue stick method on some dents in the past, it's a great quick fix, that technic is good if you're not planning or repainting the panel.
@BrucePierson
@BrucePierson 4 года назад
@@fix206 The video was great as usual, with explanations on what you were doing as you proceeded.The fixed audio levels made a fairly constant level through the video. The glue stick method is also handy if you just want to do some of the work now and finish it later. It means not having to remove the paint at that stage, so no need to repaint to prevent rust while busy with other things. It has limitations and it also works best in cold weather, as the glue sticks better when it's cold. I'm looking forward to your next videos, whatever they might be about, as they are always interesting, no matter what the subject.

Hello, good job friend, do not forget personal safety, it is very important. There are several options, depending on your job, for example safety glasses can be a good idea, also something similar to a rectangular towel to wrap the chain, to reduce the whip effect if it comes off the place where it hooks. Thanks for teaching and sharing. Greetings.

@fix206
@fix206 4 года назад
I talked about the 1/2 inch plate toward the end of that vid, how I also have a loose piece of that plate that I can move around to make my pulls 360° around the vehicle. I really wanted to strengthen the very front of the frame rack as much as possible because that's where it would see most of the action and where the hardest pulls will take place that's why I added that plate to the front of the rack. And at the same time I did not want to modify the tower in anyway that's why I left it alone

LOL... I'm cool with all my neighbors, whenever they have car troubles they always come to me for help and being a good neighbor that I am, I always help them out. So they better not complain LOL

Nice rig. Need to watch how you built it. As for the pulling, it looks much easier when Arthur does it on his numerous patients, LOL

Question how do you figure the top rad support with that pointer thing (didn't catch the name of that tool) did you make it or buy it if you made it please share how you made it and give dimensions thanks. it's great to see people think things up and then make a plan and build it and see it work.

To check for symmetry I used a tool called a "Tram Gauge" here is a video of how I made it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mTr5dCj4kis.html

Do you think you can add a cheap laser measuring system? I seen one for $10000 at the expo!

Well its been a while since i finished outobody school but if i remember right u gotta start the pulls before you change any parts i would of put the donut to move it. Also we would use those protective blankets over the chains in case they snap, and also stand away from them.
@fix206
@fix206 4 года назад
you can pull bolt on parts before the pull, but if you're replacing the quarter panel then you want to make the pull first since all the substrate metal is attached to it. And I normally would have the blanket over the chain, but since this was the first vid of the frame rack in action I wanted the viewers to see everything unobstructed

9:38 How much force did u use to pull that nose of the Acura? In other words, what is the break strength of the chain u are usin? I need to know because I am tryin to oull the nose of my car with a ratchet strap and "frame tower".
@fix206
@fix206 2 года назад
I've purchased that chain few years back and not too sure what the strength of it is.. But if I were you I'd just go for it with the equipment that you have available. No matter what chain you use, always assume that it will break and just stay out of it's way if it does.

I did loosen the bolts on the subframe. I even pulled one of the bolt out. and left the other one in so the subframe wouldn't sag under the weight of the engine

What if you weld that piece of 1/2" plate to the tower so that gap is always filled and just remove the plate on the front of the frame
@fix206
@fix206 3 года назад
The way I did it made sense to me at the time. And if I were to weld the plate on now I won't be able to put red slide in arms over the base tubes
