Great video. I'm doing this job for the second time in 18 months because I didn't do the seal on the back the first time - don't get tempted to skip that! I had trouble bracing the old hub to get the axle nut off, the wheel studs would rock on the jack stand making it hard to get good leverage. One easy way to do it is to simply put the brake rotor and calipers back on and get an assistant to hold the brakes while you crank on the axle nut with the breaker bar. Thanks for the video Flo!
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 2 года назад
That's a great idea with using a buddy to hold the brakes! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel
@benpowell4128
@benpowell4128 2 года назад
Another trick: Put your lug nuts on to protect threads. Then Place a long pry bar between two studs and then place the jack stand under the end of the pry bar. This keeps the truck from rocking excessively and allowed me to get my torque spec without having to put the brake rotor on.

Great video, very thorough. Just an FYI, wheel spacers cause premature bearing wear. I found out the hard way. I bought the correct wheels with the right backspacing and offset. They look better too👍☺️
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma Год назад
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! Technically backspaced wheels do too since it's basically pulling the tires further away from the wheel bearing and introducing the similar stresses. Regardless though, I do have proper offset wheels now with 35's (which will definitely wear the bearing due to higher stresses introduced by the larger tires, part of the fun thought right? LOL). Check out the fitting 35's vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNBbmf0Oigs.html

@nofear6235
@nofear6235 2 года назад
Good job man, very informative. I am about to do it on my 2008 4Runner. Before I saw your video, I did not think to replace that larger seal from other side of the hub, where axle enters the hub/bearing assembly through the knuckle. Is this always must to do when replace the hub/bearing assembly on the front of the rig? I did order pair of Koyo's and they will come with o ring and the seal. The reason I am asking is this procedure does require extra work to be able to insert that large seal from other side of the knuckle.. Thanks in advance!
@elvisgomez3202

I was able to remove the wheel hub without using the special tool, used a big flat screw driver and it worked perfectly, maybe because I live in SF California trucks don’t rust as much here, compare to other states.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 года назад
Yea, you'll see in the video that the passenger side was much easier. I was able to take that side off with just a hammer. All that mud + Water got in between everything and seized up the mating surfaces
@TheWickedFast1
@TheWickedFast1 Год назад
if you put a spacer between the bolts after you break them loose, you can press the old bearing out, saves hammering.

Still another very informative video..#10 Couple of questions After doing all that to remove the hub assembly did you give any thought to replacing the axles at the same time? And you didn't mention that the replacement part was a Hub/bearing unit preassembled part.. Did you post up the part numbers ?

Hi George, to answer your questions: That axle still has a lot of life left, there's only about 40K miles. That was swapped brand new when I did the ECGS bushing replacement. The assemblies are on my amazon page, under "Wheel Bearings". Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!

If you are doing this job. You should take all precautions to not brake that speed sensor. At my auto store they wanted 125.00-250.00 each for new ones. They are like plastic gold. Don’t brake them.

Kflo, Can you do a video of how to inspect and identify which wheel bearing is bad.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 2 года назад
I do a rough check at 1:43 - you can put the truck on jack stands and you can push on the tire at the top and bottom as well as the side to side. If it rocks, back and forth like how you see at the time stamp, it's definitely time to replace

How has the wheel bearing held up? I’ve read some bad reviews that these bearings don’t last. Any input? Thnx
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 6 месяцев назад
In all honesty, ALL the IFS wheel bearings don't last. These ones I had lasted about 22 months with my 35's and 1000 lb 4 wheel camper. My buddy who has OEM front wheel bearings with 40's lasted only 20 months. At the end of the day, these front wheel bearings wear very fast unless you have stock size tires and setup

Did you get your wheels/tires properly balanced? did you try swapping the rear wheels to the front to completely rule out the wheels? Is that strut leaking? it could be that your strut may no longer have the fluid to dampen

If the studs are two short. Why can’t you cut them off and drive out the splined end and replace them with grade 8 bolts that will take more of the pounding that you are gonna give them.
