Today I'll review the Frontier BB 2048L Box Blade, with my 1 series John Deere 1025r compact tractor. This box blade connects easily to the 3 point hitch, and it can be used the John Deere I Match. The box blade will make a great addition to the attachments I use to maintain my property.
Todays project will be grading a drive-able trail to my pond.
Welcome to my channel, I'm in Dubuque Iowa, and my channel is know as Today in Iowa or Bill Burkhart 1025.Be sure and check out my channel for many videos including the John Deere 2038r tractor how backhoe and the many implements I have to maintain my property.
I added a power top link in video # 120 and a box blade much more versatile.
I'd enjoy hearing your comments, I answer every comment.

The Jim Nantz of RU-vid! Your voice with commentary is the best! Great video and content. I am obsessed with driveway work with box blades! Love the process!

Thanks Doug, I was wondering about that for a gravel drive with a gradual slope drop

One of the most useful tools that I have on my tractor at all times is a 12” magnetic “torpedo” level. All the big box stores carry these and they are cheap. With the level you can level the implement to the tractor, even if the tractor itself is not level. So if the tractor is say, a half bubble off level, just adjust that side link to where the implement is the same and you have leveled the implement to the tractor, side to side. In the case of your side hill, just park the tractor on the hill and adjust the implement to where it is level. You’ve now leveled the implement to the grade. Check and adjust every few passes. When the tractor and the implement are both level, you’ve removed all the slope. Also useful for checking the top link adjustment and leveling front to back. Same as above, just position the level front to back, and adjust the top link until the tractor and the implement both match. This is really useful when you’re setting the stop for the 3pt hitch for something like a brush cutter or mower. I use this method setting the height of the 3pt for my brush cutter so that it cuts level and not front high or low. I also used this method leveling and clearing a place for an equipment shed that was also on a side slope. Hope this helps you!!

I just bought a 5 foot countyline blade box for my 1025r.....And Im very happy with it....it dosent overload the tractor very often at all...(thats very easy to manage)...and a wider blade functions a little better....Im clearing a river bank...so a six foot would be too big....and my little tractor would not handle it any way.....love the 5 footer

When working on a hill side you can adjust the three point so the box blade is angled with respect to the tractor...this will allow the box blade to work the high side of the path first...once the road is cut level, then adjust the blade back into the flat, default setting!...always seem to fight roots!

Thanks Doug, after reading your comment I inspected the three point hitch and see one side is adjustable. I'll try that the next time I use the box blade on a hillside. Thanks a lot for the tip.

Good job! Just one piece of friendly advice though......SLOW is your friend when using a box blade. Breaking up the ground not so much...but during redistribution to the low spots slow is your friend. Nice looking Tractor too btw....I have one just like it :)

Nice job !!! Im patiently waiting for my 48" box blade..... can't wait to get out and play . As for the down pressure with the 3point thats a No. Unless you add a hydraulic ram..... don't think down pressure would be any good. It would just lift the back wheels. Any way ..... nice job !!!

Your dirt is so different than the sand/clay mix we have in AZ. I rented a tractor like yours to level my yard and as soon as the bucket started picking up dirt it would stop the whole tractor and the thing would start spinning tires like crazy. I ended up picking up a 3025e - bigger tires = more traction, and hoping that'll work better than the 1025... The sandy topsoil for me vs the clay like under layer is a pain to grade... I can't wait to get a box blade. Hope the 25hp is enough to pull a 5 ft blade since my tractor is a bit wider... my eyes when you loaded up the box towards the end: O_O

If the 25 HP isn't enough, I'd sure like to know. I purchased a JD 2038 and I'm hoping for stronger box blade operation. Thanks for taking time to comment. Keep me posted.

I live in AZ as well and I have a NH workmaster 25s with a 48" box blade and I ripped through the soil fine the key is take it slow and try not to take to much out at once, Slow and steady win the race.

I'm in the Mojave desert with a subcompact. Go slow with the factory bucket blade and you'll get heaping buckets. Otherwise get a loader tooth bar to tear up the hardness

@@billburkhart i did pick up a 72" box, figuring id have an easier time trading for a smaller one if it doesnt work out, and the 3025 pulls it with ease. Its definitely not the hp, but the weight and traction of the tractor...

What is this trail like after a pouring rain? The reason I ask is because I want to make go kart trails for my grand kids.
@billburkhart
@billburkhart 7 лет назад
There are tall trees along the trail and the canopy slows heavy rain , so I'm not seeing any erosion. I actually made it wider last week. Thanks for the question.

Does this tractor have down pressure on the 3 point hitch?
@billburkhart6004
@billburkhart6004 6 лет назад
Good question, it does not have down pressure. I wish it did but could always add a sandbag if needed. Thanks.
@Malakie
@Malakie 6 лет назад
So far I have not found a need for down pressure on mine. Most of the attachments are heavy enough on their own to hold it firm.. if you need more, some weight can be added as Bill said using some sandbags or steel weights.
