Magnificent human being was John Hume from Free Derry ...regularly in the Donegal Highlands where many of the Derry people originally came from🎉

John Hume sacrificed his political career when he started negotiations with the Provo's, but his way was the only way forward, no mater what side of the divide you come from. He was extremely well respected in the States (brought 1000's of jobs to Derry, something the British government would never have done!)

I think I remember a story in a local newspaper that the guy who did his voice was from the North Coast, possibly Coleraine or Portrush area. That was their claim to fame lol

FYI of everyone watching this, Malachi O'Doherty has written an EXCELLENT book 📖 called "Terry Brankin has a Gun 🔫 " 2017 I think. It is an extremely readable and well written work of fiction that follows characters recognizable to those of us familiar with The Troubles. Highly recommend buying it! And, Malachi O'Doherty has of course also written NUMEROUS works of non fiction on the same topic. We are fortunate to have such a prolific and knowledgeable documenter of our modern history! 🫡

Most of us know we're being played but even those people aren't aware of the extent of how we are being played. We've accepted there's only two options - the classic divide and rule strategy. It's either The Union or a United Ireland. Really? That's all there is? The"Establishment" have done a great job in narrowing the focus, minimising the alternatives, or even brainwashing, to call it what it is. We so easily fall into either camp.

@@g9604 Both. The servants of power are doing the playing and it's done to ensure we never unite to organise society in our interests, not theirs. The point is to refuse to be a servant to power and to gain an awareness of how together we can make collective, progressive change and not be the pawns in power agendas.

@MichaelShawcross when you say the servants of power is that the government's from both sides of the divide? IE the dup and sinn fein. When I think of the troubles though I think of how it also started when Ireland was partitioned. The root causes of the problem are still there. The Good Friday Agreement was certainly a British solution to an Irish problems would you agree?

Well the loyalist/unionist community is doing just that. The artificial statelet that is NI ...built on falsehood and oppression ....is on the way out. Not wanted by the brits they so adhere to, not wanted by the Irish that increasingly more and more people want to unite with. The changing demographics suggest a new order that may well involve a UI funded by the USA and the EU...but while the increasingly irrelevant no surrender boys shout and scream and mark their territory like feral dogs progress is happening and there is a new better future for all of Ireland.
