Actually, the Endo-Sym armor didn't make Tony evil. It was because of an accident when some heroes and villains tried to stop an enemy called Red Onslaught by switching his morals from evil to good. However, this also caused the heroes and villains who were there to have their morals switched as well, including Iron Man.

What actually happened to Arno is this: the alien who designed him actually rendered him handicapped, so he essentially had to be confined to a life support. Still, he and Tony became close colleagues in the future.
