Imagine you're fighting someone, thinking they're mind controlled by a vampire, only to realize-after you killed them-that they were fighting to protect their sister.

Well at least Jonathan is kind enough to take care of Nezuko after killing Tanjiro.

The whole 'if I had a nickel for every time' line made by Boomstick is a reference to Phineas & Ferb. Specifically, it's a reference to this line by Dr. Doofenshmirtz: "Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I was doomed by a puppet, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice."

No lie, this was the first DEATH BATTLE! that had me crying in the end. Only a good amount of anime have done that to me. Just... freaking bravo...

With this death battle, I can see both combatants apologizing over what was said, then offering to help train each other, Johnathan learning swordsmanship and breathing magic from tanjiro, and teaching him ripple and boxing techniques.

My God...! This is the first time in Death Battle history that it's the saddest moment. I've never expect they'll do that... :( And man, you're crying too?? 😞

After that specific Death Battle, I came to NOT watch people react to that entire Death Battle, I came to watch people react to its sad ending :'(

Both also mainly utilize different energy based attacks (Asgardian Magic and Ki, respectively), and recently gained a new godly power (Thor-Force and Ultra Ego, respectively).

Jonathan seemed like the easy bet when you consider everything he did and faced off with. Tanjiro doesn't have quite the same record. That aside, I personally really appreciated that nod to Aladdin and the King of Thieves. Sad we lost another from that series of movies recently.

Heartstrings were torn dis day i actually wanted to cry after seeing this fight Q-Q this is indeed was the saddest death battle i dunno if i can even count this as a win sure i knew if jojo parts 2 & 3 were mentioned tanjiro would of been screwed right there and then i still dunno if i count this as a win, as for next time im have very low expectations

Skill is a wonderful thing to have, but if your opponents base stats are over twice yours and they don't just move like an idiot you are very unlikely to win.

I still don't like Dio for killing Danny, but Jonathan managed to at least evaporate the hate in my heart with his final words. He anime protaganisted me, and that's a rare feat.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW Ending's even sadder than that, actually. This is according to people who've actually seen season 2 of Kimetsu no Yaiba (I refuse to call it Demon Slayer), and I haven't yet because Crunchyroll STILL hasn't made it available for free users, so I can't attest to this myself. But from what I hear, it's pretty much confirmed that Tanjiro's the only reason Nezuko holds on to her humanity. If true, then best case scenario she'll never forgive Jonathan (let alone give him the chance to keep his promise), and worst case scenario, she's about to go full oni and Jonathan will have to kill her anyway. And in case it's not obvious, I hope with all my heart it's not true. In fact, now that I think about it, there is that hypnotism thing that Urokodaki did...
