Props to Fatality here, it definitely hurt seeing some of his tools not work because of Bayo being Bayo, but it’s nice to see a really explosive player take out a boring player.
Milton Cardiel True. The same is for Glutonny. Even ZeRo himself said if Glutonny comes to America on a good day, you'll see why he's one of the best in Europe.
I main shiek and when i face bayonetta my needle throw and run away combo usually gets me the W. I also taunt and press down and let go every other second. I win the first match let the second match buffer on the character select screen and them leave the server to piss a bayo main off
You don’t “get lucky” and get 2nd at civil war and 5th in this tournament. It doesn’t work like that. This man earns everything he gets soloing falcon and especially against a character like bayonetta and let alone the best one in the world.
NastyBurgerTV He didn't get lucky. One does not take a set from Larry, Komorikiri, Nairo, CaptainZack, Cosmos, Salem and ZeRo by luck. Sure, maybe one of them in a bad matchup, but all of them? You're very wrong.
TBH I like Salem personally because I do appreciate that kind of patient play that he's known for (even though there are also players I like who go in hard like M2K; heh MVG go figure). But I feel Salem is becoming the new Ally with this. Back when Ally first beat ZeRo and went on this streak where he consistently beat ZeRo a lot of us had felt that the god of smash had been dethroned. Yet ZeRo still kept up a high level of consistency while Ally started dropping. I'm not saying Salem isn't placing consistently. But I feel that the reason Ally started dropping at some point is because people started figuring him out and I feel the same is becoming true of Salem. MK Leo wins so solidly against Salem because he has such a strong pressure game and doesn't allow Salem any room to breath and stay safe; he doesn't allow Salem to slow down the game and dictates a faster pace for the match that Salem just deal with using his trademark playstyle. Fatality is doing the same here; he IS playing carefully around Bayo but he's keeping up a strong pressure and leaving Salem little room to stay safe and slow down the game. Like Pierce points out when Salem turned up the pressure he did much much better but game 5 he went back to his old Salem self and he got pressured and lost. I think we're going to see more high level players beating him out this way unless he changes things up. I think that secondary Greninja really needs to come out more because he's much less prone to relying on that slow campy style. He's not dissimilar to Ally and ZeRo in that regard either; all three of them are true Brawl vets and they're used playing a slower, more patient game (I know ZeRo's retired but his example is still fresh enough).
ChouRaiyuki I don’t think ally got figured out. For me he started doing poorly after his eye surgery and he just can’t come back to the meta. It’s like he is frozen in time for a while.
GhostwiththeMost Thank you! A person who likes and respects both players dispite what character they play and not completely biased towards one or the other! :)
Salem needs Bayo to be #2 on the PGR, all Fatality needs is sick reads and di, a mid tier character with a sharp knee, and Pogchamp popoffs. Win big in 2018 Fatality!!!!
I know this topic has been beaten to death but honestly, Bayonetta's design is so lazy. She can camp, has the best recovery, best combo game, best at everything, and they just tacked an assload of random mechanics onto her for the hell of it. Bayonetta victories are fucking boring, although bayo upsets are usually pretty hype. She's not as bad as brawl mk, but competitive sm4sh is just a minigame to see who can kill the camping bayo. Fun game
EJJTM yeah, he does those a lot, though it fell a bit short here. He honestly seems to get better in losers though, I swear his most dominant wins include a reset.
Not sure if you're joking or not but you might actually be right. Salem maybe needed that change of pace. He's less prone to really trying to retreat and camp the way he was Bayo and even Samus. I honestly feel that he should bust out his Greninja more not just cuz it's hype but because he ends up playing differently with that character in a way that would've probably benefited him in this set.
Yeah, I was kind of serious because he took a set off of fatality with greninja, albeit it was pretty close. Going greninja may or may not have sealed the deal. Bayo, being her, is a lot safer of a call.
I honestly enjoy watching Salem play but I have to admit Fatality also flubbed during that set IIRC. On the flipside though Dyr beat Salem's Bayo not too long ago despite losing to Salem's Samus before then. Bayo's the better character and no doubt Salem's best but when we first saw his Greninja vs Mistake he was doing pretty darn well then too. Bayo might be the safer call but oddly I think she may not necessarily have been his BETTER call.
It’s possible? Fatality is one of the most volatile players we have, because he is either really on or really off. Sometimes, say, Civil War, he does really well. Other times, he ends up dropping pretty hard. He also seems to make a lot of misplays during his games, and usually at more crucial moments (see Mars 2017, grand finals vs. Gluttony), but I would like to see him do well.
But there were already so many Bayos, and Salem is the least entertaining to watch... Don't get me wrong, I don't fault him for his playstyle, but obviously the more fun character to watch is the Falcon, and the more fun Bayo is Mistake. And how can you dislike Fatality's Falcon? It's pretty much the only non-top tier here anyway...
