As someone who is currently has a frozen shoulder and going through therapy, it is true like most comments, that you didn't have a frozen shoulder but rather a temporarily pinched muscle/joint issue. But with that said, I appreciated the stretches you showed, especially with the water bottle (pushing the arm out) and other stretches. Just tried it and was very helpful in getting openness! And it is true, in the process of "unlocking" the shoulder, you have to build the muscles around it. Still appreciated the tips.

I'm so excited - my frozen shoulder finally broke free after exactly one year! For three months, every day, I've been doing aerobics and lifting small weights. Last week, my shoulder seemed warm and achy so I thought it was getting worse. But yesterday, during the weights, I heard a crackle in my shoulder. This morning it happened again, and now I have full range of motion and no pain! I was really worried before.

That’s great!! Happy for you. Mine is just starting to freeze. Can I ask how you did aerobics and did you try to push your range of motion, do stretches etc.? Also, did you have a trauma to the area and partial tear or injury to the tendons prior? And how did you get dressed and take care of yourself? I can’t put on my winter coat and I live in MN.

I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder and did months of PT to unfreeze it but it was never back to 100% and my left arm was weak overall. Well it flared up again after yoga, and started to freeze up again. For me these exercises are working because I started to immediately do them within a few hours of my shoulder starting to lock up. Thanks Matt!

I’ve had frozen shoulder for 5 mos now. Don’t completely dismiss what this guy is saying. Even though it seems he did not have a frozen shoulder, he is correct about the lats and traps being a big factor. Since the arm usually will not go overhead these exercises are not really approachable. BUT you can approach stretching the lats and traps from below and without having to take the arm overhead. Try side bending (away from the frozen shoulder) from a seated position with simply raising your shoulder blade toward your ear (hand on hip or wherever you can manage.) Hold for a while and repeat often. Compare to the other side. You’ll find the entire torso on the frozen shoulder is tight in side bending. This guy is also right that just moving the shoulder itself is not going to work. That’s actually why it takes people so long to recover. They keep overdoing the sh joint movements without making all of the surrounding connected muscles fully participate. It is possible that he nipped what would have become a frozen shoulder in the bud. And I can see why people flipped out on him cause this frozen shoulder shit is insanely frustrating. And he is giving advice without having gone through the trenches! He doesn’t understand the suffering and full loss, but he still might be on to the spice of the problem. Pecs have to be opened too, but that is even harder with the damn stuck shoulder. Good luck people! And do try to investigate for yourself - as he is doing. Our pains become our best teachers.

Probably wasn't a frozen shoulder, just a shoulder impingement. Frozen shoulder develops slowly over months. By the time you realize what's going on it's already starting to freeze.

@A. G. True frozen shoulder takes anywhere from 4 months to 18 months to solve, it is usually a gradual healing process to fix it. But I agree, if it was solved in a couple of days then it was def impingement not frozen shoulder yet.

You cannot cure adhesive capsulitis in two days period. If you can you do not have a frozen shoulder. You can improve the range of motion for sure but by definition it is not curable with simple stretching due to the pathology of adhesive capsulitis.

I’ve have frozen left shoulder (I’m right handed) for 11 months and still can’t sleep all night without pain. It was a partial rotator cuff tear to begin with so initially confusing, but was not caused by any injury, just happened playing tennis. Anyway I’ve been to PT twice and although I have full range of motion now, bad (nighttime) pain results from any strength training.

I've been dealing with frozen shoulder on and off for 3 years. Two rounds of physical therapy, three shots, daily home therapy. Was diagnosed with RA six months ago. This is not a cold you can just knock out in 3 days. It sounds more like this guy just had sore muscles, like you get from a hard workout. If he truly had frozen shoulder, wouldn't be moving that quickly.

Been suffering since Aug 2015 with a work related injury. They gave me PT, a couple months in I know one of the moves made it much worse, something popped. Was hounded by case managers to "hurry up" and get better. Too long of a story, but stopped therapy after about 10 long months. Before the pandemic my life already sucked because of the constant pain and I lay awake most nights in pain and feel foggy all day wanting it to stop. I've tried so many stretches with only a little bit of relief. These were different then anything I've tried before and feels like my shoulder is wanting to stabilize without the muscles getting overly tight. I feel like I have blood flow to my shoulder. I'm going to do these throughout the day as suggested. Thank you so much for posting this, I feel hopeful!

Whether what I had was frozen shoulder or not, I don't know. What I do know is that my shoulder was getting worse and worse, ruining my sleep and severely limiting my ROM. I was given other exercises to do for frozen shoulder and they didn't seem to be helping. My friend that had frozen shoulder said it took him 4 months to heal doing those exercises. Well, I have been doing the exercises in this video for 2 days and have almost completely recovered my ROM. I still have some pain in extreme movements, but I was expecting to deal with it a lot longer. I also used a massage gun a lot. I feel sore but it's more like muscle soreness from a good workout than pain. I've also been able to sleep without taking naproxen. I'm very encouraged and thankful.

Keep it moving. It hurts and I cry just like I did the last two rounds of frozen shoulder but the difference in duration and intensity the second time round was astounding. 1.5 years the first time and 3 months the second. Maybe I can heal it sooner this time? 🙏🏻 The crying was more about the fear of having this debilitating pain for so long again than the actual pain. I have to work, run my business & I’m not married anymore.

I have had frozen shoulder for 3 years, (age 64) in the middle of a flare up. So I tried this and day 3 I got some pain relief and it is more flexible in my right shoulder. This exercise makes sense because with frozen shoulder the scapula sticks and rides up when lifting bad shoulder. The scapula should stay down more and this exercise releases tension in that area. I will keep doing this thanks!

My right arm is in the freezing stage as of a few days ago and the motivational doc had an excellent video to help release and increase rom & decrease pain. Wish I would have seen that years ago. It works! It will help me get through this. Also Bob & Brad are great, too. A horse crushed my foot September 2020. You didn't have frozen shoulder if you fixed it in 2 days. I'm a man in my 50s. I've had it for 18 months. First 4 months I did nothing thinking it was an injury that would heal. When it didn't heal and got worse I saw doctor. Did PT for a few months. Painful because they make you force it past your comfortable range. A few times she put me in intense pain. I hated my therapist and called her my dominatrix. The more you do the PT exercises at home the better. Hard to do because you have to force it into the painful range in order to regain some range and you have to do this a few times a day to maintain it. After about 8 months since it started it was noticeably less painful and had more range. Today after 18 months the range is about 90%. Still hurts at extreme range but I rarely need to move in that range for any tasks. Not a big deal since it no longer prevents me from doing anything (lifting overhead, putting on a coat, etc.). I'd never heard of frozen shoulder until I was diagnosed with it.

I've been going through the exact same thing for going on 9 months. Dealt with the pain for months until I couldn't take it more. Had surgery and multiple trips to the therapy office and finally seeing positive results. The whole experience is quite painful and depressing. There is no way in hell you can take care of a frozen shoulder in 2 days. Like you, never heard of it until I was diagnosed.

These are good to do for frozen shoulder. I have it and I’ve tried many other RU-vid exercises for the shoulder, (before I had the diagnosis by MRI) but these have made a difference, so I’ll keep doing them each day stretching a little more each time, trying to loosen up the joint. I’ve lost 20 degrees in my shoulder rotation over time due to issues in my shoulder. So until I can get to PT, these are helping!

I had an a shoulder injury about a month ago. I had a gradual weakness of the left shoulder which then led to becoming a frozen shoulder. Last week I woke up to a painful shoulder and could only raise my arm at hip level. I was in so much pain that I had to put it in a arm sling. I know very well what a frozen shoulder is as I was diagnosed with one 5 years ago on my right shoulder. It took 1.5 years to recover. Now as for my left shoulder I decided to attempt these stretches you gave. I mainly focused on the palm up over the railng. It was super super painful on the first day of stretching. I also applied ice after every stretch for 5-10mins. On second day of stretching the throbbing pain on my arm was gone. I could actually do the stretches with greater ease and has resulted in sleeping straight thru the night. On Day 3 I woke up to an arm that can touch the top of my head. Before these stretches I had to use my right arm to slowly support my left arm up or it would just fall on its own. Also I did these stretches almost every half hour whenever I was over the sink or table. I held my stretches for 3 sets 30 secs. Thank you so much for sharing! Your stretches have truly helped me. I will continue to do them. Also for those wondering if you should dive into these stretches pls get a proper assessment by a doctor & physiotherapist first in case you may be dealing with calcium buildup or a rotator cuff tear.

It was a rib that went out that caused my first frozen shoulder and it lasted 1.5 years. I didn’t find out about the rib until much later. I’m on my third round of frozen shoulder and my ribs go out a lot. I was on crutches for over a year and a half. 6 weeks ago I started walking/putting weight on it then my shoulder froze up. 😳 I was able to heal the second frozen shoulder in 3 months. Just keep it moving and take high doses of digestive enzymes (PuraZyme is the best I’ve found.) Turmeric, DMSO, magnesium oils, arnica, etc. lots of topicals and the motivational doc has a great massage point to release it temporarily and take most of the sharp pain off and increases rom.

I had ulnar nerve surgery during this period as well in November, so my initial thoughts were, that the pains I was having was due to the healing process of the operation. Wasnt diagnosed with the frozen shoulder until I had an xray, which has also shown a calcium build up there too. ;-( just want my arm back now, but am aware it's going to take some more time, and possibly another operation on the calcium (calcific tendonitis) ;-(.... Then again, same shoulder (right) in 2017, had surgery in 2018 to release the capsule. Currently 9 months into a left frozen shoulder and can feel my right tightening up again. It's a little insulting to say yours came on in 2 days and you miraculously cured it in the following week or so. Doesn't work like that. I'm so sick and tired of being in pain that its finally getting me down. Dreading the association between frozen shoulders and an imminent onset of Parkinson's turns out to be true in my case.

This is not frozen shoulder, as frozen shoulder has three phases that can take up to three years to get rid of. The first phase is stiffness, the second phase is the loss of mobility, and the third phase is what is known as the thawing phase. two days? You are talking about something else and calling it a name that is a medically diagnosed problem of Adhesive Capsulitis of the Shoulder. Otherwise, known as frozen shoulder. You are too young to have this condition unless you are diabetic. It also happens to Perimenopausal women. I don't doubt that your shoulder felt frozen, but don't point people who actually have a medical diagnosis in the wrong direction. with that title.

That's sad about your doctor not knowing how to fix the issue without surgery. It makes me think that if they can't fix it without surgery, how in the world can they know which aspect of the complex muscle+joint system to manipulate while they open you up. Scary but when thinking of it in this way, it makes no sense at all to trust any surgeon. The only surgeon that I would trust is one who knows the kinematics of movement and the muscles/joints behind them like Matt in this video. If he were the surgeon, I would go with him.

I didn't do surgery and I didn't do shots. Time and patience is what it takes. Time and patience. There are NO quick fixes to heal frozen shoulder. Give your body the time it needs to heal. Keep being physically active. Your whole body needs physical motion. Take medicine for the pain and keep living your life. It WILL get better. Give it time!

Most people relate the term “frozen shoulder” to Adhesive Capsulitis, which I think it’s obvious you didn’t have. AC comes on slowly over many months, is excruciatingly painful (making these exercises impossible) and takes anything from 2 - 5 years to recover from. Not saying your exercises won’t benefit a stiff shoulder, but I’d be cautious before recommending them for actual frozen shoulder.

Lots of stretching, certainly very useful, but not necessarily what cures the frozen shoulder. Simply swinging my arm for a few minutes, like 10 times a day, solved it for me within one week, after 4 months of suffering, unsuccessful injections etc. And yes, it was properly diagnosed by a rheumatologist with scan and everything. It keeps coming back though, but at least I know how to get rid of it. 2 days? I wouldn't bet on that. It usually takes me 3-7 days, but then I have peace for 5-6 months. The stretching may be a good way to prevent it from coming back. But I already do lots of stretching daily, and it hasn't stopped it.
