Great series of vid dude. I'm working my way through them all after spotting this fix to my problem. There's now 3 different firmwares for 3 FCC & 3 for LBT. 1st has standard name as in your vid, the other 2 are appended with rssi8 and rssi16. How do I tell which one I need?

Thank you!!!! wow...I feel like a complete idiot right now but this video just saved me from wasting money on a new receiver. I was struggling to get the XM+ to work on my Brain RE1 FC. Every time the SBUS wire was connected the LED would stay solid red instead of going green after binding. I thought I had flashed the latest firmware but until I watched this video I did not realize that I had to click the "Download" button on the frsky-rc site instead of downloading the top one in the "Version history" list. I was not paying that much attention and thought the Version history included all of the available downloads and the top of the list would be the latest one. I was wrong, lol. After watching this video and realizing the mistake I made I went and downloaded the latest firmware and flashed it, and now it works! I feel pretty dumb right now but super glad you made this video and saved me, haha. Thanks again man :)

Thanks for this video mate, used it to update my FrSky XM+ firmware which needed to be done to get RSSI on channel 16. This might help someone else though, I have the Taranis QX7 radio and couldn't get it to work using the pins in the module bay, kept giving me a "bottom pin" error. After some digging I found out I needed to use the "smart port" located at the bottom of the radio to the left of the micro SD slot. You don't need to change the order of the wires though, if you hold the radio as you do when flying, pin order from left to right is GND, +5V, SIG.

Thanks for the video. How/can you get what I guess is RSSI. I've hooked mine up and the little symbol doesn't appear on the Taranis and my range check switch says 0 db.

I just got a Loki-2 in which has a xm+ receiver in it got the two solid leds sometimes they are bright when i try binding it other times they are bright don't know if that makes a difference but my question is i have tried flashing fcc firmware it keeps telling me firmware flash fail?Any ideas

Hi JC. Nice video. Quick question. I am living in UK and I just ordered a RTF kit from USA. I assume it comes with Non-EU firmware. What would happen if I fly the drone without flashing it to EU firmware ? Thanks !

Just as an FYI, LBT stands for Listen Before Transmit, which basically does what it says on the tin, and is legally required anywhere within the European Union.

I'm plugin this into the main Port on a CC3D board (which is configured for S-Bus) however as soon as I turn on the receiver with the bind key on I get a solid green light even with the transmitter off. I'm not getting anything Betaflight either. Any ideas guys?

Even when using the smart port on the qx7 it is still coming up with the bottom pin no response error. I tried flipping the lead going into the transmitter so it was going signal, 5v and then ground which caused the led to momentarily go on but then the error pops up anyway. Any suggestions what I should do now?

Recently a buddy of mine tested FCC vs LBT (Listen Before Talk) which is the only legal version for Europe. His conclusion was that LBT actually had a larger range than the FCC version. During this test the difference was only 30 meters but maybe you could try this also, just to check if it's better to use EU-LBT instead of FCC

Unfortunately, since my Taranis X9D+ still has the original v2.0.9 FW on it, when I connect as shown, I only get the option to DELETE the RX FW file. Long ago, I tried to update my Taranis FW to latest version, but I got the error msg. that some of my parameters wouldn't adapt, since they'd been changed/dropped in the newer X9D+ FW. So, not wanting to go thru all my models and make corrections, I reverted back to v2.0.9. Then, when I did that, I found that attempting to update the Taranis corrupted my model files, so I wound up having to redo them anyway. What a pain. There should be an option to flash FW on the XM or XM+ via a PC USB port (or serial port).

My XM+ is just flashing red when powered try to bind with my turnigy 9xr pro with frsky DJT module and red and green are solid tried to flash different software ... FCC LBT still same can find what is the red blinking light about can I even bind those two? module and receiver?

Hi J.C.! Could You help me? My XM +RSSI was stable 50% (Omnibus f4, latest Betaflight) . A read that the FW upgrade will fix it. I did what is in the video, step by step, but when I would like to flash the FW I got a "firmware update error" message. The leds are flash only at once. Now I can't bind it with the X9D +. I upgraded the transmitter to opentx 2.2, same result, except the message. "Firmware update error, module not responding." When I try to bind it, the green and the red led has solid light. Is that fixable somehow?

I don't have a Taranis - can this be done in any other way? Perhaps and Arduino?

On the Taranis X7 there is an smart port on the buttom. Connecting through this without switching the ground and plus i was able to flash the firmware

Can anyone help? I have an eu taranis X9D and an XM+ from China (bang good) followed these very helpful instructions.. flashed the receiver with eu-lbt but still get red and green solid lights when trying to bind. Tried several times but to no avail. Anyone shed any light on this?

I tried to use the same method to flash using x7 it does not work. I measured the voltage between voltage and ground pin. It is less than 1v i.e can not power up the receiver. btw I am using the open tx 2.2 rc13. May be I need to go back to stock firmware for this to work?

Hey Jc if my taranis is bound to my xm+ in d-16 does that mean I have Eu firmware. conversely if bound in d-8 mode would it be FCC firmware

Where can you find the lbt firmware?

Quick question the XM+ has 2 different fcc firmwares (xm+fccrssi161221 and xm+fcc161221). Any idea what the difference is between them?

I have the X7 and I have tried using the port on the bottom and the pins on the back and when I try to flash the firmware it just says "Bottom pin no resp" the soldering seems fine so I'm not sure what's the problem

hello there and anyone who might know something more.....on a quad with XM+ reciever...i just plugged battery to fly and it seems like it lost binding.....this happens for 2nd time...the previous time i reflashed the xm+ for RSSI too and it didnt work immediately..in the 10+nd try after rewriting different firmwares and retrying to rebind etc..it worked...now again with no reason since yesterday i was flying normal without any troubles..i just went to fly and no binding...of course i wouldnt have writen this message ....i already tried to reflash again and rebind more than 10 times....it dont make sense whats going on? any idea?

Do anyone have idea why it isn't possible to flash brand new micro XM receiver through both module bay and S.Port connectors at Taranis Q X7 bottom? Used wire ordering is "S, GND, +5V" for module bay connector (as seen in this video) and "GND, +5V, S" on S.Port connector at bottom of Q X7 if looking on it from top (as in flying). In both cases after selecting the XM firmware, pressing enter and selecting "Flash ext. device" got one red LED flash in XM receiver and "FW update error", "Bottom pin no resp" in Taranis. Can't figure what it can mean. Nothing useful about that from Internet searching too. Taranis Q X7 have latest firmware and OpenTX installed (2.2.0 release from 2017-05-30). BTW This XM receiver didn't want to bind too. It started to bind normally - steady green with flashing red when switched on with F/S button pressed and TX in Bnd mode. But after switching RX off and on (when Bnd mode on Q X7 is switched off) it has steady red light with slight green light pulses and is not bound. Can it be that this RX is DOA? I have other micro XM RX which arrived in same shipment with nonworking one. This second RX is bound to mentioned Q X7 radio without issues and they are working great together. So we can rule out radio problems.

FYI LBT is EU version and FCC is for everywhere else not just USA. LBT is listen before talk and a legal requirement within the EU now.

After I bind and power on I get a Red Blinking light. When I turn my Taranis the red light switch to Continuos red light instead of Blinkin and the Green Light Blinks very little every 2 secs something like that

.................................................................,,,,,,hey my dude, i have the r xsr and tried to also use the xm plus to get my kopis 1 flying without issues, for example, when i bind the r xsr to my qx7, it reads that it binds correctly ,,with the solid green light, but as soon as i cycle the power back on, the green led does come back on , i noticed a solid blue light aswell, and also, i am getting a constant beeping that will not stop until i pull the power ,, ?! Oh and when i try to actually fly with the r xsr , I am only able to fly or get stick movenment using the Original Version of the TS8G Multi Protocal Transmitter, but i not able to use the Plus Version of the TS8G, nor c=am i able to use the QX7,,, , though they will actually bind up with all of them, but it literally wont show any stick movenment,,? im at a loss, and i very much would appreciate any and all help or suggestion,, one last thing, is that while i am trying to get used to the Kopis1, it keeps fail safing on me, from a distanc of only approx 25 to 30 feet,,, I jus wanna be able to fly the da thiing,,,, , and not have to worry 24/7 whats really

i have tripled checked the wires and they are plugged in correctly, but when i go to flash the irmware onto the xm+ it says firmware error on my taranis... anyone have a solution?
