If I had to choose 1 lure to survive on, the kastmaster is the one. Definately going to buy from them some day.

I've been wanting to try some larger kastmasters for salmon/steelhead lately.

A must have for a trout box, and they cast great. I've been getting my Kastmaster "knock offs" pretty cheap on Amazon Prime and doctoring them up. Never used the color dip, but I will now. Looks great. Thanks for the video.

are the knockoffs working as well as the real deal?

I've done well recently using copper Kastmasters for rainbows. Lure Parts Online prices were so good, I planned to buy nickel and gold MasterCast spoons and buy copper or metallic orange tape from Shortbus Spinners. Assuming they were brass blanks, I sanded down a nickel one to make a half nickel/brass and was pleasantly surprised to find the next layer down was copper on both the nickel and gold (under that was something else silvery colored, not brass). Back and forth on flat 220 grit (finest I had) quickly exposed the copper on the flat sides. I haven't used them yet, I doubt the silver or gold sides will make any difference. Generally where I fish, (other than copper) the trout seem to prefer silver based lures and the pikeminnows prefer brassy colors. The "Closeout Scratched Master Cast Gold" looked fine to me and were especially cheap. $2.99 for 5 size 1/2 oz..

Good stuff I need to find some heavy tins for my surf setup I'm getting. 3+oz castmasters are like ten bucks now. I've been debating raiding my local range and filling spent brass with spent lead. And making giant roster tails out of it but unless I'm going to use 375 H&H s they're only going to come out to about an oz.

If the spoon or blade you want to dip has a topcoat/varnish does it work? Or does the material have to be unfinished?

Do these still come with the split rings? I wish I would have known that just ordered a bunch and the split rings as well. It does not mention that on the site anywhere. Thank you for the video.

Good video. Been doing this for a while. Spanish mackerel love these things, but you lose a lot of lures. These save you a lot of money.

Strike using spent brass, I just saw a guy who makes muskie spinners just by putting egg sinkers on a wire with blades! 😀😀😀

Can I powder coat those or is the finish to smooth? I am very interested in powder glow colors for the 1oz size. KastMaster only makes the one green glow and the kings seem to love it. Thanks and happy fishing!

I believe powder coating would not work. Airbrushing might.

@@spiltmilt If I had a sand blaster I might try powder coating one side a glow color. Thanks And Happy Fishing!

I spent an entire day making two blanks from a scrap of steel. Turns out, these are simply sliced from round stock! I started with square stock lol!

Is it ok to use a conventional reel with the one ounce kastmaster, and how heavy/big should my rod be?
@spiltmilt
@spiltmilt 4 года назад
Yup conventional reels are perfect for this. Look for a rod rated to at least 1 oz. A med-heavy power rating should be fine.
@austin72
@austin72 4 года назад
Any type of reel will work just match the weight with what rod your gonna use so you'll get the best performance out of it

It has been a long while. Took a break after getting ill in the winter and then came back got immersed in work and a season long bass tournament. Just upgraded a bunch of my equipment and hoping to make 2019 a big year for Spilt Milt Productions.
