This has got to be one of the best radio shows around 4 information on fruit trees. Hat's off to Ms. Poizner.

Fabric pots are great for air pruning roots. They're also great if you like watering constantly.

I’ve been following Eric on Epic gardening on RU-vid and learned so much. Also love the Giving Grove-like modern day Johnny Appleseeds!! So inspiring and lots of practical tips. Can’t wait to try all this stuff! Thank you! ❤️

i have used fabric grow bags. i guess they have there place. they are not for me. i have never been able to reuse them for trees. i had to cut them out of the bag. long term i prefer to use plastic pots. use them yourself and try to get a root system like those pictures show you. i believe most of those root pictures are from fast growing weed plants.

I really appreciate your feedback! It sounds like they work well for blueberries and only for trees when they are very young..

I have 3 incoming apple trees. I’m trying to put all three on my third story south facing balcony. From GrassRoots… 3 x 65 gallon lined fabric pots. 32” diameter x 18” tall. Plastic liner stops a few inches from the bottom. Tan fabric, not black… to try to keep cooler. Gala on b.9 Crimson Topaz CV on G.11 Discovery on G.11 I’m south of Chicago (zone 6a, I think). My balcony is 54” x 105” with railing 42” tall. Any tips on what shape to strive for when I might not be able to access around the whole tree? Collum? Open center? Modified central leader?

Been thinking about using the tan fabric in summer, then wrapping the pots in a black fabric during winter to try to keep warm.

What a good idea! Makes sense…

Wow, that’s tricky. I’d go for central leader as base shape might spread too much and the tree branches will hit each other. When you head back the platform branches make sure your triangle shape (with the central leader as the top of the triangle) is narrow. Summer pruning just after blossom time will help keep the trees small!orchardpeople.com/when-to-prune-fruit-trees/

@@Orchardpeople thank you. I’ve been interested in organic nutrition for a while. Been working with agronomist Bryant Mason for fertility in soil-less peat based media. He’s got a peach orchard in Oregon I think. Been watching a lot of John Kempf’s AEA videos. Interested in Ca to K ratios to control bitter pit and PM. Calcium to Boron ratios because my Ca is around 200-250 ppm on a Logan Labs saturated paste test. Potassium to Manganese Ratio because I’ve heard adequate Mn prevents potassium from preventing Ca uptake. Anyway, that’s my focus of google research. Ca : K : Mn : B ratio. 200 ppm Ca : 150 ppm K : 5ppm Mn : 2.5 ppm Boron ( on saturated paste test)

I have seen the citrus planters with removable sides in place Versailles, France. The oldest citrus tree is over 175 years old! Here is an overview of the planter: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qKcOMt3mMVc.htmlsi=Yl8wGjz4-1us-fmh
